Hi I have been having a few problems with this. It is becoming more frequent that my steps are not registering for instance last week I walked for over 45 minutes most were fast but none registered. Is there a best place to put my mobile phone when I walk I always put it in my back or front trouser pocket

Better keep the phone in your front pocket, could be pinched from your back pocket.

I agree, however the area around my front pocket is too flipping tight at the moment!

Front pocket is ideal. Make sure to have a reasonably tight pocket. A wide pocket where the phone moves around is not ideal. It is also possible that your phone needs some settings. I suggest you leave a review on Google Play or Apple Store so that the programmers can check your phone model and advise you

This is something I was just thinking about. I don't have the active 10 app, but I have the Samsung health app which after being in the garden with my phone in my back pocket, Gardening, back and forth doing things, also hanging out washing, resitered 88 steps! 😭 Noom registered almost 2000. Bit of a difference!
