Hi everyone! Last year I was 67 years old - now I'm 67 years young! The last 10 years (where does the time go?) have not been very happy for me and I've allowed myself to get fat and unfit. I decided that 2017 was going to be the start of a new life. So I began by stopping smoking - although I do vape. I searched for a new place to live and 2 weeks ago moved clean across the country, to a completely new environment. I really can't multitask, so I'm concentrating on getting fit and will deal with the weight problem later! I've joined the walking community, cos my arthritis coupled with the excess weight won't allow me to run - yet!! I am excited by this forum, as motivation comes better from those who are facing battles too - thanks to everyone for sharing!
New year - new home - new me!: Hi everyone! Last... - Active 10
New year - new home - new me!
Hi Kay50, so pleased you've joined this forum, you'll get lots of support I'm sure. How super brave of you to up sticks like that, you've obviously got a lot of inner strength even if your body sometimes fights against you. I have osteoporosis amongst other things, but retired last November and got myself a little dog in January(not so little as it turns out). He needs walking several times a day, so no excuses like the inclement weather, aches and pains, I just go out. It's the best exercise for my condition and fresh air certainly lifts your mood. I'm also trying to lose weight, two stone needs to go according to my NHS BMI, it isn't easy is it. Keep at it Kay50, I'm going to give Slimmimg World a try this Saturday, I need a kick in the pants.
Bingbong 10429, thank you, thank you! We all need a kick in the pants - isn't it just so ironic that when you finally have the time to do all the things you've been wanting to do, your aging body just will not cooperate! Osteoporosis is a nasty illness to have, but you seem to be dealing with it head on - well done you!
Good luck with the Slimming World programme!
Hi Kay 50 I know what you mean I'm 65 and I've got so many bad memories from my past and a lot of it self inflicted, I had a really bad first marriage and went through hell, I won't go into all unhappy memories but year's later I had councelling and it really helped lol not at first because I was in denial and I thought she spoke a lot of rubbish but over the year's and a lot of soul searching I realised that a lot of what she said did apply to me. I try to take one day at a time and pace myself and sometimes it even works lol. Regarding weight loss I think I've tried every diet you can think of, right now I'm on the nhs 12 diet, they have a great forum they even have a weigh in every day just try to keep the same day every week and best of all it's free. I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis among other problems lol this is beginning to sound like woe is me but I'm better than I have been for a long time. Take care of yourself and be good to yourself and remember your special too lol I wish I could take my own advice
Rosie xx 😊
Hi Rosie-2015 - we sound like twins, I so identify with you! This sounds really callous, but it strangely helps to know you are not alone with your problems and suffering! I also divorced in my 50s and was devastated for a number of years until I had counselling and eventually (almost) stopped beating myself up about my failures! I'm also crippled with arthritis, amongst other things! I'm hoping I've finally managed to draw a line under all that, which is why I've moved across the country and given myself a clean slate and an opportunity for a new start - at 67, about time! lol! You are a wise woman - thanks for sharing. You've suffered enough - you have every right to be happy - love yourself and grab life with both hands! Take care. x
Sounds like you're having a wonderful year. Welcome to the walking community, I look forward to hearing of your journeys.
