Skipping with an 8 year old

Hi everyone, my granddaughter has decided to teach me to skip. I can hardly leave the ground let alone jump over a rope. She is only 8 but is worried that I am not fit so I have agreed to try to skip by my birthday in September. I need to loose weight so that I can get off the ground. Walking is my best option but try telling that to an 8 year old lol. Still I have had more exercise today than a long time the question is, will I be able to walk tomorrow? I'll let you know.

Oh Pansy123, I smiled widely in reading your post, reminded of my 7-year old grandson who wants me to run about chasing him. I am 68 and my arthritis permits walking, but running I will have to do only in my dreams! But for just his sake, I wish I could.

The thingsthat we will do for our grandchildren. It's so lovely that they want us to play with them and don't consider our age at all. It's nice to have someone who doesn't notice wrinkles and age. All I hear all the time is "come on Nanny, you can do it!"

Skipping is hard, I can’t do it like they do on telly. I have to do very slow jumps to get over the rope and I don’t go very high. I think it is a great thing to work towards and I am sure by September you will be skipping. Walking is a great place to start building up your fitness to go along side your skipping. Good luck. Oh, the things that are so easy as a child. And such hard work as an adult. I think that's a great goal for the summer, and walking is a great place to start. :)

Walking is definitely a more sensible place to start 😀

I agree. I walk a lot about the house, but not too much outside where uneven surfaces tend to make my knees hurt - our roads and pavements are not good in my area of Bangalore. I'm also doing Intermittent Fasting (check it out on the Net) from 3 months. I have lost 10 kgs. weight, which has made me lighter on my feet than before. I'm aiming at losing another 20 kgs. I might even try skipping after that!!
