Diastis Recti with Abdominal Wall hernia

Hi all. Anyone with experience of this? I am due to have botox injections on Monday into the stomach muscles to elongate them. This is supposed to bring the muscles that are separated closer to enable the stitches and mesh hold. I have been told by the NHS doctor that I can choose to live with this and wear girdles as the gap is quite huge and the loop of bowel sticking out is at very low risk of strangulation.

I don't want to do this as some of the side effects of the surgery are scary. My husband though thinks I should get it done and the private surgeon we are seeing says he can do it though it is complex.

He said he will use a dissolvable mesh as I am concerned about having a foreign body in me.

Any comments from anyone who has had these two issues fixed or know someone that has is really welcome.

hello. I don’t know about your specific situation, but there are a few exercise programs for diastasis recti. Julie Tupler and MUTU system are two that I looked into and tried. I had some luck with Tupler’s program, but it’s intense.

Thanks for this Rosemary. I will look into this. If I had known about these, it may not have gotten this big with a huge hernia to boot.

I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. It seems like DR should be more widely discussed. I figured it out on my own when I was several months postpartum from my first and still looked pregnant. I was very discouraged for a long time about the whole experience. Wishing you the best with whichever path you choose.
