Not emotion no feelings what is wrong with me ?

Peanutbutterplease profile image

I was bought up in the era or household as tough love I never felt love from a parent and certainly never heard those words 'I love you or even praise or proud of i am incredibly stern actually and it is my way or the highway . I have no emotion towards anything really nothing bothers me i have a partner if I'm honest if they left tomorrow I wouldn't care . I like being alone yet I am sociable when needed . I can do the fake chatty nice person when I feel I have too .I have no family I am glad of that I have no routes of my own . I mean what I am asking is . Is it OK to be like this ? I've been very independent from a young age and my attitude i don't need anyone and I really don't. I am fake when needed . Is it childhood trauma ? Is it just the way I am ?

🤔It’s possible…what you experience could be linked to Alexithymia…for peace of mind discuss this with your GP.

Alexithymia is not a condition in its own right, but rather an inability to identify and describe emotions. People with alexithymia have difficulties recognizing and communicating their own emotions, and they also struggle to recognize and respond to emotions in others.

There is no formal diagnosis for alexithymia, although several scales can help to identify its signs.

As it is not a disorder, health professionals do not currently recommend or prescribe treatment for alexithymia. However, if it co-occurs with another condition, such as depression or PTSD, people can seek treatment for those issues to avoid worsening symptoms or complications.

I really don't know but it could be low in the spectrum of Autism . Some people are not diagnosed until later in life.

I guess you did ask if it ok to be like this. I think if your happy and social when you need to be. It doesn't matter everyone is different.

As long as you’re a person with good morals who does no harm to others, pay your taxes, etc then I can’t see the problem personally. I wish you well, and you deserve to be happy, and you shouldn’t be concerned about fitting in to the norms.

I was brought up like this and big sister to 2 boys. I take things as they come and quite happy to be on my own most of the time now that I am a widow. My late husband asked me out after the death of his 1st wife who was an invalid and I just accepted his invitations because i felt sorry for him. After 3mths when I found I enjoyed his company he said can I kiss you ? I wasn't sure but when he did I felt an almost chemical deep feeling and certainly got to know what sexual love meant and we had a child when I was 43yrs old and now I can tell my son I love him, as that is what they want nowadays. I have 2 lovely granddaughters. Don't socialise much but go to things I want. never had Covid so that is good.

All the Best to you.
