Fluid in knees and legs

Does anyone suffer from really excessive fluid around and underneath the knees - I am on thyroxine plume Indapamide for high blood pressure. There is a tight feeling also around ankles - pain from my knees shoots in upper legs. Chemist suggested gout as I have shoulder pain as well but I’m very unsure about that - tried another chemist and she said inflammation. Our GP isn’t giving outs appointments and it’s a nightmare trying to get a ring back from doctor as we have to phone at 8.30 am and are then told all call backs are taken today.

🤔 This could be nothing to worry about..but it would give you peace of mind to persevere and get a doctor’s appointment.

Leg swelling can occur in any part of the legs, including the feet, ankles, calves and thighs. Leg swelling can result either from fluid buildup (fluid retention) or from inflammation in injured or diseased tissues or joints.

Many of the causes of leg swelling, such as an injury or prolonged standing or sitting, are common, easily identified and no reason for concern. Sometimes leg swelling can indicate a more serious disorder, such as heart disease or a blood clot.

Seek medical care right away if your legs swell for no apparent reason, especially if you have unexplained leg pain, difficulty breathing, chest pain or other warning signs of a blood clot in your lungs or a heart condition.

Hi Cassandra, I have just posted something similar to yours. I’m getting pain in my knees too. It comes and Goes. They feel like a bag of fluid, puffy. I also have excruciating shooting pains in and around thigh areas from time to time.

Hi Heidi

I got to see doctor on Tuesday - blood pressure was very high and he changed my blood pressure medication- said he thought swelling and fluid being caused by arthritis in knees and has recommended a scan (personally I don’t think this is correct). My upper legs are so big and wobble like lumps of jelly and I feel as if I would lose a stone if I could drain the fluid away. Was a newly qualified doctor I saw and I sort of lost faith in him when he got two drugs mixed up - I know they all have to learn but he had all my details in front of him on the computer. Please let me know if you find anything that helps the fluid retention for you.

Hi

I get what you mean about newly qualified GP.

Perhaps have a second opinion, I know it’s a pain getting appointments these days as it is .. however, peace of mind.

I rang about my knees Tuesday morning. Nurse will ring me back. She rang twice and each time the call ended due to what I thought was poor phone connection. However, my phone was fine when speaking to Receptionist. So I rang back explaining that every time the nurse rang, the call kept terminating .. Receptionist tried to locate nurse that had rang. Receptionist then said, oh she will ring you back.

It’s now Thursday, and so far no call back. Shocking ! No faith in GP service anymore. I understand they are very busy, however, where people’s health is concerned, a more efficient service should be provided.

As soon as I sort this problem out will let you know outcome.

Hi Heidi

Received call from doctors receptionist this morning to say doctor had left a message for me - after telling me to come off my present blood pressure medication and start new medication he now wanted me to stay on my present blood pressure medication and take as well as the new one prescribed - I said I wasn’t happy with that advice as I had asked chemist and he said those two meds should not be taken together - I said why would doctor advise staying on a medication that hadn’t been controlling my pressure. As I told you earlier I had no faith in this doctor and I had seen him on his last day before he moved to another surgery. Receptionist said she would ask another doctor and get back to me - haven’t heard anything since. My brother is pushing me to ask for a referral to a cardiac specialist as he is concerned about so much fluid retention and as I am 70 years old tomorrow and he’s just worried that it may be a heart problem. Hope you get sorted soon x

I hope you get it all sorted out and wish you all the very best.

Please let me know how you get in. Always in and off here for a chat.
