Heavy periods, cyst, long cycles ... a mess :(

47 yrs old my cycles have gone from the normal 28 to 48 to 60 . Went for a ultrasound for tummy pain and they found gallstones AND almost 7cm cyst on my right ovary ☹️ So on the last ultra sound it has shrunk slightly and my period started April 9th the flow was light and became medium and has continued the last three weeks ! On the weekend flow was so heavy I was changing tampons every hour and passing large clots ! Not much cramping or pain though . I am assuming this is perimenopause? I am losing hair and with the longer cycles assume this is it ? I have been referred to a gynaecologist but won’t see her until August but will be seeing my doctor this Thursday about this , just looking to see if others have been through this ? It’s all so draining , from the gallbladder pain , which is coming out May 27th to the heavy periods , I am dreading going to work with this today . Funny thing is the period is heavy during they day and practically stops at night .

You need to ask your GP if they can have you seen sooner, &/or contact the gynaecologists secretary to see if they'll fit you in if there's a cancellation.

Well my period flow eased up yesterday do that was good and GP visit is Thursday so I will see what he recommends then . I have read that perimenopause can cause heavy periods and irregular cycles , I have another ultrasound June 6 to check the cyst and the list goes on ....all my co workers who have had similar issues keep saying if I get the opportunity for a hysterectomy to take it , it was the best thing they ever did .

Hope you get help soon, though look up the impact of a hysterectomy before you take such a big decision, & be informed of the hormonal issues you might exoerience after.

Please see a doctor or get into an ER or Urgent Care if you have very heavy bleeding again and don’t let them write you off!!!! A friend with poly cystic ovaries went to an ER on a Friday and was told there was nothing to be concerned about and sent home. She bled to death over that weekend.

OMG ! Welll it was really was just the two days and Sunday being the worst , if I had started to feel faint or ill I would have gone in right away and it’s gotten much lighter now . That’s awful about your friend ! She was bleeding enough to bleed to death and was told that was nothing to be concerned about ?!?!? My god......so sorry for the loss of your friend 😔

Please don’t wait until you feel ill. Let someone know that there is a problem so they can get you to help if necessary. Should you pass out you can’t help yourself. Most of us try to avoid symptoms, etc. longer than we should, and sometimes that means that it’s too late.

Will do . Definitely going to mention it to the doctor on Thursday .
