Hi I’ve just joined this in desperation having seen my BMI registering ... ‘Obese’ ... my weight has been a problem all my life I’m 66 and I’d love to be a healthy weight but is that achievable? older people seem to find it harder especially me. I have 2 dogs ones old now and doesn’t walk but the younger one will and I will walk with him especially as my husband is waiting for a hip operation and I’m doing everything at home currently, I can’t do too strenuous stuff as I’ve a hip replacement myself but I would really like to lose a few stones but I’m dubious as I feel my age is relative to not being able to... anyone else on here think similarly or any advice please?

My age I feel is going to be a barrier to my losing weight !
🙂 It can be very helpful to be able to rely on lots of support, losing weight can be far from easy. Type Weight in the search box (above right), there are links to Weight Loss NHS and Healthy Eating.
Hi Kaiseysmum Please come and say hi on the LCHF forum. Many people find they're able to lose weight this way, even if they are unable to exercise, or are not very mobile due to poor health. There are some knowledgeable people there that will be happy to chat and help with suggestions and support.
Best wishes.
Hi there. Are you my twin! We have so much in common! I’ve decided to try and lose some weight now for good. I agree at a certain age the weight does not shift. I’m really going to try my hardest this time. I too have 2 dogs- 1 is 12 and the other 5. I have walked nearly 500 miles and have lost/toned up a bit but not as much as I would like. Feel free to msg me if you want a bit of support or anything - we can do this👍
Hi, you’re not alone with this problem. I’m 64 and have been a few stones overweight for some years and am desperate to lose weight for my health. It has definitely got harder as I’ve got older too! I get tired more quickly than I used to, and exercise is much harder work than a few years ago. I’ve recently discovered a weight loss app called ‘lose it’. I’ve lost a few pounds over the last three weeks using it daily. Might be worth having a look at? You enter your information and it calculates a daily calorie plan for you. You set your own goals though. Seems to be working for me so far anyway. Good luck!
Why are you only using weight as the only means of judging your health? I'm not saying it's not important but maybe you need to look at some other ways too. What about your waistline measurement? Or how far you can walk or how quickly you can walk a given distance? Maybe you can think about improving your diet and exercise rather than limiting your calories and losing weight. Surely your aim is to be healthier rather than just to weigh less?
Our society is so obsessed with weight that we get drawn into this idea that what we weight is the be all and end all of being healthy. I'm not saying you should disregard your weight but maybe you need to set other health goals too. If you eat well and exercise your body will be stronger and healthier and more able to withstand aging and ill health. Which is what we all want.
BTW, 66 is nothing. My mum packed her life in to her car at 66, drove across Europe and settled in Northern Cyprus. You can achieve anything if you believe in yourself.
I have been doing 5:2 for many years and have found it perfect. Only two days a week of feeling hungry and hubby and I are happy with our weight now.
