I’m new here, Am I Safe?

Hi, I’m very anxious and have nobody to talk to that’s why I’m here. I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend on the last day of my period and took combination pills the day after since we don’t have plan b in our country. I just want to ask if I’m safe because I can’t afford to get pregnant and abortion is banned here. I researched and saw that once you take combination pills on the fifth day of your cycle, you’re protected right away. Does that apply even if I had unprotected sex on the fourth day?

If it was during the 7 day break you’re completely covered and fine! As long as you haven’t missed any pills🙂

If it was on the last day of your period, you should be fine! :) sperm can only live in the uterus for up to 5 days, and ovulation usually doesn't start until over a week after your period ends. Plus, if you take pills, then you should definitely be ok.

I've had one too many occasions where my period came late and I got worried that I might have been pregnant. So my husband and I ALWAYS stop for a few seconds to put on a condom so we don't have to worry about anything.

Thank you! :) I’ve been stressing about it and had nobody to talk to! You’re a great help!

What I've learned is that sperm stays active in the body for 6 days, but a woman is only fertile for a 24hr window 3 days before her next ovulation. Ovulation is exactly 14 days before your next period, so if your cycle is a typical 28 days, then you have a risk of getting pregnant if your sex fell days 5-11 of your cycle. If your cycle is 30 days, then your risk days would be days 7-13. Day 1 is the first day of bleeding.

If you fell before the fertile window, you should be fine anyway. The combi pill would hopefully prevent you from releasing an egg this month, if your sex did fall in your window, but I'm not sure how well it works if you start it a few days into your cycle.
