Shnookie - new here incontinence issue

Hi I’m Shnookie. I’m ADHD and Bipolar and belong to those groups. Now I’m havinging an issue with incontinence.

I’m on Medi Cal but after a telephone session with one of their doctors I’ve been

referred to a urologist. I’m 62 and never have had children but I guess at my age these things start to happen. It makes me

Uncomfortable but I’ve heard that now among other things they use Botox. Has anyone here gone thru this ?

Thanx hugs 🤗 Shnookie

🙂 Botox can be very effective, and has many uses. I’ve even had an injection into my eye muscle.

A urologist can inject Botox into your bladder to treat urge incontinence or overactive bladder. This helps the muscles relax, which will give you more time to get to the bathroom when you feel the need to urinate. The injections are done in the clinic, and most patients tolerate the injections well. They do not “hurt” as you may expect, but you may have some short-term discomfort, which many patients have compared to a period cramp.

The good news is that most people get symptom relief quickly — in as short as a few days. The treatment results last about six months, and you can have additional injections. One possible side effect is urine retention, and it is not recommended for males with a risk or history of enlarged prostate.

🙂 Botox is used in the UK.

What are the alternatives?

There are a number of alternatives:

• bladder training.

• medication – taken by mouth, delivered by a patch or put directly into your bladder.

• neuromodulation, where we stimulate the nerves at the base of your spine to improve your bladder symptoms.

• other forms of surgery.

Most patients will have tried bladder training and medication before we consider giving them for botulinum injections. You can discuss all these options with your doctor at your appointment.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Thank U for your wise words. I know my uncle had a surgical procedure for a bladder issue. There R some men unfortunately, if they have their prostrates removed because of a malignant tumors who Ive heard need to wear dependsmail diapers I think U call them nappies in the U.K. but U R correct women bear the brunt of issues with menstruation and then some. Do you feel better after your surgeries ? U have a positive attitude which is great. Im here 4 U hugs Shnookie
