Advice needed

I have just started Taking Microgynon 30 because of very bad period pains. I have been advised to take it back to back to see if it helps. I had a scan which showed a small ovarian cyst but was told to wait and watch. The scan showed no sign of endometriosis.

I thought that taking the pill would stop my periods but instead I have now been bleeding quite heavily for eight days and feeling low and lacking energy. Is this a normal occurrence when starting taking the pill. Should I just carry on and see if it all settles down.

I am about to go abroad for a few months to start a course so have no time to see my doctor.

I would be grateful to hear of other people’s experiences when starting this pill.
