I’m looking to see if anyone has had a similar issue - about 6 weeks ago I had bad uti symptoms with pain & bleeding- went to Urgent Care & was diagnosed with UTI & given 10 day course of antibiotic. Went to my GP for annual physical 3 weeks later and told him & he did urinalysis with my annual blood work. Results showed a trace of microscopic blood in urine with normal red blood cell count and white blood count slightly elevated.
He referred me to urologist as he said there should never be blood in urine . Urologist ordered CT Urogram scan which I had last week and haven’t heard any results & need to go next week for cystoscope exam. Also , at urologist exam I had to ask if he saw any blood in my urine & he said “ not today” . Has anyone ever had anything like this? I’m worried sick that this is something serious. Thank you for reading

🙂 I found this, it does sound like an infection of some sort.
Urine is a generally thought of as a sterile body fluid, therefore, evidence of white blood cells or bacteria in the urine is considered abnormal and may suggest a urinary tract infection such as, bladder infection (cystitis), infection of kidney (pyelonephritis).
Thank you for responding- I really got no information from either my GP or urologist makes it quite stressful that all these tests were ordered- I too thought I still had low grade UTI
You may still have a low grade infection which isn't bad enough to cause symptoms, I had this and took low dose prophylactic antibiotics for 2 years which cleared the problem.
Thank you for your reply - did you have to see urologist & have any of these tests ? I too thought I may still have infection but Dr didn’t even mention that - just what I feel are serious tests!
I was already seeing a urologist as I have kidney stones but he wasn't interested in the uti's despite me bleeding profusely, it was actually the urology nurse who suggested the long term antibiotics, I didn't have any tests other than a CT for the kidney stones.
Thank you ! I was wondering about kidney stones - gad horrible pain initially but that went away. Just wish I would have gotten a call about the scan - it was last Friday & I was too nervous to call & now it’s too late
Hi bantam12 I know this is an old chain, but I was wondering if you managed to get the long term antibiotics on the NHS? I've been prescribed long term antibiotics, but through a private consultant and they got rid of most symptoms but definitely not all of them.
Hi, I suffered with utis for over 3 years. I would get one atleast every month and mostly had blood in my urine every time it was tested. My gp said the blood was down to the infection. I had a ultra sound scan on my bladder and a cystoscopy and everything came back normal x
Thank you - hopefully my tests come back normal too - I haven’t had any other blood but do feel like I have a low grade uti - I have horrible anxiety- this is tough for me 😕
Yes they did the bleeding only lasted a few hours - I really thought it was bladder inflammation from UTI but when I went for follow up urinalysis it showed trace blood - protein +1 - slightly elevated white blood cells - my GP then referred me to urologist saying it could be kidney stones or bladder cancer ? Because the scan was 4 business days ago I think I would have heard if it was kidney stones - the dr scared me mentioning cancer - I’m 61 with some other health issues so it’s just a worry I have another appointment next week for scope & urologist said that would show any cancer cells ?
