Hello how are you all?: Hello I’m a... - Weight Loss Support
Hello how are you all?
Good morning and welcome, Nannywoo
We love someone who loves a chat 😀 There is a chat post each day with a theme, but it doesn't matter what you want to chat about, whatever is on your mind.
You'll find all the forum activities by following this link healthunlocked.com/weight-l... to Pinned Posts. Look out for the weigh in and the daily diary - that's a good way to start: you'll soon get to know people and feel part of the community. We ask everyone to reply to others so you'll fit in well.
You don't say if you're following any particular plan: this is a straightforward one you may like phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...
As for exercise, walking is excellent and you know how much you can manage. Exercise is far less important in weight loss than what we eat.
All the best
Hi and welcome on board. I am also in my sixties and a mother to 3. I have 4 Grandchildren. I have suffered with arthritis for a few years now. I have good times and really bad times. When I am struggling I use my Grandchildren's old buggy. Pushing that gives me extra support. I can actually power walk using it. It comes in handy for carrying shopping too. LOL. There are some good videos on you tube that focus on exercise for people with arthritis, I lost my weight using the NHS healthy eating plan. It focusses on calories and portion control. I learnt so much by using the plan that I can now cook healthy meals and understand the benefits of portion control. We are all different and you will find what works best for you. Good luck with your journey. X
Hello and thank you for replying. What a good idea using the buggy it certainly helps with mobility. I will look on you tube for exercises as I still work in a school and have to walk around supporting students, portion control has been my problem and the old saying don’t waste good food means finishing everything on the plate. Thank you for the advice and keep going with your heathy life style hope we can chat again. Xx
Hi again . I found to control portion size I swopped my plate for a bowl. I also learnt that a portion is a tablespoonful. When I cook now I add lots of vegetables to the meal and less of everything else. If I make a meal I make it last 2 days where as before would think nothing of eating it all in one sitting. It is hard to start but you soon get used to it and your body adjusts until you can no longer eat large portions. I like bulk cooking and saving it in small portions ready to eat. I use my crock pot a lot and make healthy stews and soups or a nice hot curry but served with vegetables instead of rice. Chat soon X
Hi, I'm 67 and love cycling. I'm on a low carb anti inflammatory diet which should help arthritis as it's an inflammatory condition. I just avoid all processed foods including those which most people regard as staples like fruit juice, sugar and flour. I also avoid refined grain oils which are high in PUFAS (which cause oxidative stress and inflammation) and only use butter, coconut oil or olive oil.
Thank you Eryl, I use mainly olive oil when I’m cooking and I have read about coconut oil but haven’t used it yet is the flavour very strong? Xx
How lovely that at 67 you still cycle. I never had a bike as a child so never learnt to ride. I did start in my fifties but found I was too nervous and after a few falls gave up. I agree cycling is good for arthritis so bought an exercise bike but found it boring. All that peddling and going no where. I do however walk a lot and also I swim. Both of which I enjoy. Unfortunately during covid this activity was stopped but has just started up again. My advise for any one with arthritis is to keep moving. X
I've not noticed the flavour to be strong, the aroma is noticeable when I'm cooking but most people like the aroma.
Hi NannywooI am 66 and soon to retire in December.
Between my husband and I we have 13 grandchildren. I have 2 children and my husband has 3.
I hope to be more involved in the forum when I retire.
I have cut out biscuits and crisps. We have a cake at the weekend as a treat.
Look forward to hearing more from you.
I do Nordic Walking.
Hello Chrissy wow a lot of grandchildren to keep up with lol 😂 I do like to walk sometimes I have to sit for a little while sometimes I can walk for over an hour it all depends how my arthritis is and also if it’s a damp day. I do walk a lot around the school now we’ve gone back so I’m hoping that’ll keep me mobile during the day plus my vitamins & tumeric xxx
Do you you find tumeric helps. I have started taking magneisum calcium and zinc. I have arthritus in my thumbs and RSI due to years of typing. I have some tumeric capsules in the cupboard but not taken any yet.
Hello Chrissy it works for me, I don’t feel so stiff and my joints aren’t as painful it’s a natural anti inflammatory, I take one capsule a day.
