Hi. How to begin? I need to loose more weight than I weighed when I was 31! I have a long term condition that irritates my outlook as it restricts movement and has to quote the consultant - “this lady lives very carefully to live within the pain barriers” - and I’ve grown to feel defeated by that. In addition the AxSpa has written off 28% of my lungs so aerobic workouts are out of the question!!
I have lost weight with Rosemary Conelly before and with Slimming World and many years ago by using the slim aid biscuits ‘Limits’ RC and SW both had no effect unless I exercised. Now I cannot exercise sufficiently so feel ‘stuck’.
Back with SW on zoom as it keeps the pressure on my mind to “be good” eating wise but it’s a lot of money for not much actual ‘support’.
Any help/support that is real would be welcome!

Hi Creatives and welcome to this amazing forum. I suggest you spend some time clicking about to find your way around. It's easier if you have a lap-top as there are several threads. If you’re using another device I strongly suggest that you use the web page as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around.
Have a good read of the pinned post “Welcome Newbies” and follow every thread.
I strongly suggest you read and contribute to the Daily Diary and participate in a Weekly Weigh in.
Many of us, including myself have managed to lose weight by changing what we eat rather than exercising. I would never be able to move enough to burn a significant number of calories. Here's a link to a "good food" guide with lots of healthy meal ideas.
You will find there's loads of tips about better eating, from other members. Sharing your daily menu not only helps you stay committed, it can help other members too.
I hope you can swap the "being good" and "being bad" approach for one where you find a plan you can enjoy, that keeps you full and losing weight at the same time. It may well involve big changes e.g. just eating real food rather than "diet" products. Follow the link Tabby has given you for Pinned Posts and get involved
Hello Creatives and welcome to our world. A world where you will become 'unstuck', learn to eat healthily and have some fun along the way. Sound good?
There are no expensive 'diet' products promoted here - just good honest people sharing their own experiences, recipes, support and encouragement. What's more, that support is available all day, every day - completely free of charge.
Good luck with the start of your new weight loss journey and my very best wishes to you.
Hi Creatives and a huge welcome. You will get all the FREE support you want/ need from the wonderful people on this forum.I have polyarthritis ( arthritis in most joints), degenerative disc disease in my back and neck and walk with 2 sticks so I am really restricted in my mobility too and thought I would never be able to lose weight either but thankfully I am losing it faster than I ever have by cutting refined carbs and cooking everything from scratch, the old fashioned way.
I have found chair yoga ( free on YouTube) really helps as traditional exercise isn't possible at the moment although I am hoping that by losing at least 100lb I will be able to do a lot more but twt.
Good luck with your journey and if you need any advice there is normally someone around to help.
A huge welcome to you Creatives. As others have said there is lots of free support, encouragent, advice and fun here. Get stuck in and join at least the Daily diary and a weigh in day, but anything else that appeals.
You really don't need to exercise to lose weight. Yes it helps toning and muscle strengthening but just eating the right food for you is enough. I can say this first hand as i got a low impact fracture to my femur (in the knee joint) and destroyed the meniscus in July last year. I started my weight loss/healthy eating journey in september being able to do very little and what i did do was on crutches or a rollator. The knee damage got diagnosed in the October and 4 weeks ago I had a half knee replacement to put the damage right. I have lost 11 stone in that time with 1 1/2 stone left to reach a healthy BMI.
I have found a few "workouts" on youtube that i could do and got my leg strength to where it needed to be to get the best possible outcome from the operation. This is the first one i did. I only managed 3 of the exercises but they made a huge difference, don't take long to do (i did them while my bread toasted lol) and i did eventually manage to do them well enough that i moved to walking workouts.
I would advise an anti inflammatory diet, they are LCHF (low carb high fat) which will will help with weight reduction. The anti inflammatory element will reduce nerve inflammation which leads to pain, dilates airways and blood vessels leading to improved breathing and circulation which will help with aerobic excersise and reducing carbs will reduce fat storage heping with weight loss.
Heya! Just to echo what some of the others have said... exercise is not the no1 component of weightloss (apparently!). There is a large number of research and podcast I heard on this recently. Some research guy found that tribal people who are hunter and gatherers and walk 20000 steps a day burn the same amount of calories as a person on a weston diet/lifestyle. How can this be? Well it has something to do with HOW the metabolism divides up its energy resources. It tries to create balance. So if you use a lot in one area (start exercising a lot) it uses less energy elsewhere (for fertility as an example or for inflammation).
It's pretty fascinating. But kind of sad as I exercised a lot to try to lose weight!
Anyways, the recommendation is to control your food more. Eat natural unprocessed foods to be more filling for less calories.
Exercise is recommended but not for weight loss per se. But the word exercise is perhaps the wrong word as it summons up images of doing aerobics or going jogging or swimming. The word is really movement. You don't have to do the classic definition of exercises. Just move more in whatever way or area you can!
