Hi, I’m a newbie using this app, although not a newbie at dieting! I am at least double my ideal weight and need to lose at least 8 stone! I am a terrible comfort eater and chocolate lover. I am a member of a gym, although I can easily be distracted from a gym visit! I am the heaviest I’ve ever been and I absolutely hate myself, my body and my size. I am having counselling at the moment. I have no mirrors in the house apart from ones at head height... I have no willpower and would love some like-minded people to connect with who can give me support and who I can give support to.

Hi and welcome, Stressball
Which app are you using? If it's the HU app, then I advise you get rid of it and log onto the full website, as the app won't give you access to the important parts of the forum.
Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
If going to the gym stresses you out, then don't go, you can get plenty of exercise without it
To make navigating the forum easier, we've put all the information you'll need in a newbie pack and here's the link

Hi Stressball
Welcome to the forum!
You’re definitley not alone in comfort eating, im sure most of us have done it at some point. Do you know what your triggers are, if you do, then you can aboid them. If its botedom then get bisy - there is a busy bee challenge on here to help with that or simply reply to others post to keep your mind active. If comfort eating is an emotional crutch for you, id suggest trying to face the issue as comfort eating is merely a symptom! Easier said than done sometimes i know, but there are lots of supportive people on here to help and encourage you.
The Daily Diary is a great place to check into post your meal intentions and to get advice on healthier alternatives etc
There are apps you can get on your phone to do mini workouts at home, you dont need the gym nor fancy equipment, start off small and build up! Ive neglected myself this month and ill pay for that on the scales on Sunday! But were all here to help you
you can do this ! X
Hi you sound very similar to me I’ve done Atkins and I did lose 3 stone but then the carbs started calling and the weight piled on I’ve done every diet there is I’m now looking at saying I’m not on a diet I’m just going to treat myself better and eat healthy and try my best to cut out the junk foods . And I can honestly say I can’t stand exercise but I like walking round the shops or parks so that’s my aim my sister got me a watch which counts steps so this is my goal ! You can do it ! Go for it and have a great new year😀
It doesn't matter how you lose the weight it's just a matter of thinking of food as fuel for your body not your mind
You are a wonderful person I'm sure and like so many of us on here deal with stress by comfort eating. It's not easy and if you look at some of my previous postings you will see when life throws me cannon balls I run to the pantry too
I see you've joined the Saturday weigh in too and they are a lovely bunch of helpful people.
I'm also a slimming world member as I have previous have lost with them but the main reason I have gone back to them is because it's my official
''weigh in '' I trust myself to get a correct weight
I don't tend to go along with all there advice but do love the fact they advocate fresh foods in general. I certainly dont do the eat as much as you like pasta rice potato etc but salads and veggies I do, it also helps keeps my bread consumption down and I allow myself a few treats.
Good luck to you x
Hello Stressball. You need to want to lose the weight and that isn’t sometimes at the forefront of our thoughts. I joined a gym and I do make myself go at least twice a week; cross trainer mainly and the bike. I can’t do weights because of my osteoarthritis but I just find a low impact machine there. I didn’t want to stay large and was really starting to suffer with pain and breathlessness and it wasn’t doing me any good at all. If the gym isn’t making you feel great, go for a walk. Eating fewer calories than you burn is a good starting point and eating a balanced diet. I find now that stodgy food makes me bloated and sleepy, so I tend to avoid that now, and with more energy, can get out and feel so much better. It really is mind over matter and I wish you the very best of luck. 😊
Hi Stressball and welcome. Like yourself I'm not a newbie to dieting and had around 8 stones to lose. Stick close to the site for lots of great advice and support . Make a determined effort to stick to your plan , it's sometimes not easy but very worth it , find some form of exercise that you can enjoy without getting stressed over. and never give up trying You can do this you are not alone. Wishing you success on your journey to a new you xx
Hi Stressball You have come to the right place for support and guidance. This forum is fantastic with lots of people just like us trying to loose weight and keep it off, like you I've managed to loose lots of weight in the past, only to pile it back on again and more besides.
My advice is to take things slowly step by step, start thinking about the small things you can change like drinking more water eating more fruit and veg, then think about the things you need to cut out of your new healthy lifestyle like junk food.
Tiny steps day by day, don't try to do everything all at once build healthy eating into your daily routine and you will be rewarded with not only the weight loss on the scales but also a healthier happier you.
I wish you all the best on your weight loss journey, we can do this together
XxX
Slowly slowly.
No quick fix!
Choose your eating plan....calorie counting or Lchf....certainly the latter helps with sugar cravings!
Good luck....will watch out for you...
Great name!
What’s the Lchf! Is it the change for life one? I have lots of sugar cravings!
Keep carbs low and eat more fat to compensate - contrary to "popular belief" fats are not bad for you - have a look at LCHF (Low carb High Fat) forum for more info. It's not fad stuff - it actually works, and when you read how bad sugar and starchy stuff is it'll help you realise it's worth the effort to ditch them!
