The keto diet in my eyes is the worst diet iv ever been on. Yeah you will loose abit of weight but I felt like garbage after 4 days or so and I may bring on really bad heartburn. Since I gave that up I just went onto a healthier lifestyle change and took up running and incorporated a lot more fruit shakes and veggies, lost 3 stone in 3 months. Keto diet didn't work for me. Thanks

Worked great for weight loss but made me feel weak and gave me terrible constipation! Some people here have used it for a bit of a kick start then changed to something a big less harsh along LCHF lines.

Bear in mind that "keto" is normally only used to kickstart fatburning. Although some people stick with it long-term, it's really quite pointless unless you're diabetic.

The general idea is to start off with 20-25g net carbs/day and then let your carbs rise naturally to a level that you're comfortable with, but without reintroducing "white carbs" like pasta, bread, potatoes and the like. Most people end up somewhere in the 50-100g/day range.

Most people find this is both sustainable and healthy.

It's true that some people feel a bit rough sometime around day 3 or 4, but if you just ride it out, you'll feel much better by the end of your keto phase (about 2 weeks), and it's all downhill from there. Those who can't shake it off are usually doing something wrong (eg., inadequate fat or salt).

I am not sure what diet to do I have IBS just want to be healthy and reduce my symptoms! Do you have any ideas ? X

Well ... just give it a go and see what happens! There is some evidence that modern processed foods (particularly fake bread) have a role in strange digestive disturbances like IBS, but the bottom line is that nobody really knows what the cause is, or how best to treat it. So I guess it's down to you to experiment on yourself :)

I am intolerant of some “gluten-free” bread.

Well, I'm LCHF and I have IBS. I used to eat tons of fruit and carbs, so this has been a bit strange. I worked into it slowly, dropping the refined carbs.

I had an 'aha' moment at a family gathering, when I'd been eating pastry and some cake. My tum felt like it had a brick in it.

It seems to me that you might have gluten intolerance.

Hmmm, that was never considered when I was diagnosed - it gets set off by stress mainly. I've learned to listen and relax, but I was eating a lot of fruit and high fibre foods, which may have masked some symptoms. I just know i feel a lot better.

I also know that the twinges I got from the area of my gallbladder have stopped, now I'm eating more fat. There's a family tendencey to that (amongst other things). I had a good dollop of cream last night with no effects.

Hi energy1, I have IBS and when I first started reducing carbs it got worse for a week but a couple of months in my symptoms are so much better. I generally eat between 50-100g of carb a day, as vegetables mainly but 1-2 portions of fruit (usually berries), rarely bread rice pasta or potatoes which were the mainstay of my diet before. Occasional pulses. Im steadily losing 1-2 lb per week.

As TheAwfulToad has suggested, experimenting is probably the only way to know what works for you. Good luck

You swap the carbs for fat. Yes, it sounds wrong, but they fill you up. Moderate amounts of protein and plenty of green veg, cauli etc.

The right kind of good fat, butter, avacardo, cream etc.

Hello, I started with keto earlier in the year. Absolutely love it. Frees me up completely from cravings and hunger, and helps me focus on getting loads of fresh vegetables into my eating habits. I eat low carb most days, and some days very low carb, so basically keto. It is making weight loss pretty comfortable for me. 22kg so far since March. It took a bit of getting used to initially, but people here helped immensely. I also run 2 - 3 times a week.

I hope you find something that helps you reach your goal.
