Getting Started Question

Hey guys, I'm David and I am looking to start the 12 week plan next Monday but I need some ideas and help as regards to my meals and the calorie counting. I have a few recipes that are for like 400 - 600 Calories from sites like bbc good food but I only have a few and I am not sure how to work out how to plan the rest of the meals for the week. I did read that its a lot easier to stick to a diet if you are more prepared so I want to organise it in advance, sorry started to babble there..

Basically my question is do I need to find lower calorie recipes or can i use any healthy recipe and just reduce the portion sizes to get the calories right. i am just a little worried that by doing that i will feel like i have half a meal.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, especially about good healthy low cal snacks.

Thanks,

David

Hello and welcome to the forum David

The best advice I can give is have enough to eat. If you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400/1900 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, please check your own personal calorie target using the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the biggest cause of weight loss failure. For more specific advice please check out the Daily Diary 😊

You will have been given links to our Pinned Posts in your Welcome message when you first joined, please read them carefully, especially the Welcome Newbies and the Security Post. This is a very busy forum with lots going on but feel free to ask if you have any questions 😊

Best Wishes in your weight loss journey

Indigo 😊

MyFitnessPal has loads of recommendations

Hi David and welcome to the forum!

As Indigo has mentioned above - the 1400 / 1900 calories is a generic amount so find out your calorie range and then work from there.

You may find you have 2000 + calories per day to use and therefore won't have to look for 400 calorie meals :)

Hi, I suggest you get your calorie range from the NHS BMI calculator nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we... Aim for the middle or top of that range. Take out whatever calories you think you'll need for milk in drinks, if you have it, and roughly divide the remainder in three for your three meals.

As for what to have, there are plenty of recipes in Topics, you've found the BBC site, some people like Hairy Bikers/Dieters and so on. Lytham has given you a link to Lytham's Larder which is growing all the time.

Not what you're looking for?
