Hi and welcome to Springers Specials a place to get into the nitty gritty of kitchen adventures through the sourcing, making and eating of some fabulous meals whatever your location, food preferences, skills and budget.
I will be posting a new thread on the first of each month where we can get together and share some delicious recipes with a theme. It might be what can you do with green veg, make a dish with x number of ingredients, feed the family on a budget or let’s go seasonal. Whatever the theme, let’s get creative and share our ideas and meals. It doesn’t have to be fancy 😊
Thank you for all the amazing 30 minute main meals posted throughout August, what a great selections of meals that look delicious and are so quick to make. This months SS Supercook badges go to Grigid and Zest for all the amazing meals they have shared with us. I think the Kung Po was my favourite Well done to you both.
This months topic was inspired by some of the meals posted on last months SS post. We all love (or loved lol) a takeaway and so many of them can be replicated, or be adapted and made at home. Who doesn't love a pizza, curry, fish & chips, a chinese or indian .... there are just so many. The thing is there can be so many hidden ingredients in them (i'm thinking sugars mainly) and for those following a low carb programme, it does cut a lot of them out or at least parts of the meals out.
So the challenge i am setting for you this month is to have a go at making your favourite takeaways or alternatives to the standard takeaway, take some pics and share them with the recipe so we can all have a go
Ready, Steady, Go... Lets get cooking xx

Hi partner and massive congratulations to Grigid and Zest.👏👏👏Cooking a complete meal in 30 mins is a great achievement. The only meals I produce in that time are pasta based dishes 😋 It was also far too hot here in 🇮🇹 for any serious cooking.
I have only ever eaten takeaway when I very been on my jollies in the UK and even then it's always been Chinese. Here the price for the delivery of a meal for 1 is prohibitive.
I'm looking forwards to seeing and copying some brilliant ideas. Good luck everyone.
Hi Partner, i dont think i'd have been cooking in the heat you've had either!! Hopefully you'll be able to turn the cooker on now its cooled down.
I'm the other way round, i never both getting a takeaway delivered home, it seems a waste just for 1. I've had the odd one at agility competitions when a few of us get together for the evening. They've been chinese or fish & chips
I'm sure we'll get some lovely fakeaway over the month xx
Thank you so much for the lovely badge, and Congratulations also to Grigid .
I like the challenge this month, but I won't be here much, as I'm going to be enjoying a holiday, and hopefully eating out quite a bit!
But I will hopefully be joining in the next month's challenge, and will definitely take a look at all the recipes and ideas in this thread, as 'fake-away' suggestions are always helpful.
Mine is Salt and Pepper Chicken. It is so delicious and I make it every few weeks. Its a BBC good food recipe, but in addition to what's on the recipe I generally put in some more vegetables and half a chilli.
Hi Fiadh that looks and sounds great, i love using the BBC good food website, it really has lots of brilliant recipes on it. The extra veg and chilli sounds really good too xx
Perfect Fiadh. As Bridgegirl says, there a glitch with photos and sometimes it lets you add them sometimes it doesn't. Hopefully it will be sorted out soon xx
Hi everyone, i've been meaning to post this for a couple of days but time has run away from me. I made a chicken balti curry and it was delicious, especially as leftovers when the flavours are even more enhanced
I fried a large white onion and 2 whole red peppers with the chicken (4 thighs cut up into bite sized pieces) once this was done i added a jar of balti sauce (cheating i know but i would have had to buy a fair few jars of spices to make it myself) and 3/4 of a tin of chopped tomatoes (because i had it leftover). Simmer for 10 minutes and served with cauliflower rice. I usually make my cauliflower rice in a food mixer but grated it on the cheese grater this time. It was much easier and quicker but a bit more messy lol
