I have to lose half my body weightto be within a healthy range.

Started last week and have lost 5.5lbs, but as I'm classed as obese would it be suitable to do couch to 5k, or should I lose a bit more weight first?

Thanking you in advance

😊

Hello Thetimeisright2020

Welcome to the Weight Loss Forum, and well done on your loss so far, that’s an excellent start 😊

Exercise has many benefits, especially outdoor exercise, but to lose weight, food is far more important. Personally. I’d start with increasing movement in a general way, I’ve heard good things about the Active 10 group, which has an App as well healthunlocked.com/active10

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and inspiration.

Best wishes

Indigo 😊

"Couch to 5k' is awesome. But I started with walking and then walking more before doing C25K and am pleased I did. When you feel ready, go for it, and always leave open the option of revisiting it a few weeks later if need be.

And yes, weight-loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise. The exercise really comes into its own when the larger weight-losses of the first 3 months or so start to slow down.

Thank you that makes so much sense 😊

Hello. I too need to lose half my body weight. I have been doing couch to 5km at my current weight because the exercise means I can walk. Then run a bit. Then walk. Then run a bit. I usually get to week five then life gets in the way and I stop doing it. However, I'm rebuilding my fitness via YouTube fitness channels i.e. aerobics and doing back garden circuit training with my husband.

Good luck with your continuing adventures in exercise and weight loss.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, it is much appreciated. I tried to talk to my thin friends, who are fortunate to never put much weight on, but when you have another person in weight that you are carrying it's fantastic to connect with others x
