Too hard, please help:(

My height is 170cm and my weight should be 72kg, however, I'm 78kg. I have been trying my best to lose weight since March but nothing is working I even gained an extra kilo! I'm so frustrated I reduced my food intake a lot, my snacks are fruits or small amounts of chocolate. Please, someone, help me on how to lose weight, at least 1kg in a month.

Hello Hopefully2 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum 😊

It can be very frustrating when the scales refuse to co-operate 😕 You don't say how old you are or how active you are as these things also affect the scales. But keeping a food diary and accurate calorie tracking are the only things I can suggest. 😊

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Hi Anna61, thanks for your reply.

I am 19 years old, currently a university student my activity levels are low. I have an issue with both of my knees it hurts when I move or bend down or if I do any physical activities which is really discouraging for me to exercise due to the pain.

I have tried to follow the NHS 12 week plan and when i reached 5 weeks it didnt help me lose any weight, so I gave up :\

I know the reason I'm not losing weight is due to my low acitivity levels, what are my options if I cant excerise. Is there any other ways to lose weight?

in reply toHopefully2

I would beg to disagree, Hopefully2. Weight loss is chiefly brought about by calorie reduction rather than exercise, as most people on here will tell you. Exercise is very important, but you can't outrun a bad diet! Discipline over portion size and daily calorie intake is the only way to lose weight. (Hope I don't sound too bossy or teacher-like, I'm just saying it how it is!)

It is indeed hard, as you say, but "anything worth having don't come easy", as someone once said. And eventually healthy eating becomes a habit and a way of life.

Good luck! 😊

Please dont despair Hopefully2

As trimmer teacher says, exercise is beneficial but not essential for weight loss 😊

There are a couple of others possibilities. Firstly, if the 12 week plan wasn't effective it could have been you were eating the wrong number of calories, if you were aiming for the generic 1400 this is possibly too little for you, see this for why eating enough is important healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Correct calorie target is vital, for you this is between 1642 -2112. But the type of food is also important, read this for more info

I hope you find a solutions, but please ask if you need any more help 😊

Would it be possible to exercise in water so at least you didn't have the impact to worry about. I use to do aqua aerobics and it helped me to tone up and loose weight.

I would second this, I do aquafit and if you put the effort in, the resistance from the water really does tone your muscles, without putting strain on weightbearing joints (I have arthritis in my feet and do walk a lot but wanted to increase exercise without putting more strain on my joints )

I would agree with Trimmerteacher. Weight loss is principally calories in and calories out. You can do it so stick with it. We will always be here to cheer you on or cheer you up!!!

Hopefully2 , don't give in, take on board all the advice you have been given, especially checking your calorie intake. We don't all loose weight quickly I also think it can be harder when there isn't a lot to loose. I only lost 7lbs in the 12 weeks, but at least I am half a stone lighter. If you can accept that it may be a slow process and set yourself some small goals it may help, as frustrating as it it. Good luck.
