I started with 5 and a half (and a bit more!) to lose. I've now got three to go which suddenly seems quite manageable. I've done it quite slowly (since Christmas) but it's been easy and liveable. Just get started, doing anything is better than doing nothing and once it starts coming off you feel so much better. Good luck x
Hi I can't help with the course your doctor has recommended as I have never heard of it but as for loosing the 4st of course you can and having the backing of your doctor is fab.
Even if you lost just 1lb a week from now till end of December you would loose 32lb that's 2st 4lb over half what you need to loose so taking into account you will loose more especially at the beginning you can see how possible it is. Add on more exercise and it's win win for you.
Take a look at the newbies section on the right hand side of the screen and give yourself small attainable goals each week or each month whatever suits you. I put £1 away for every 1lb I loose as a visual aid. Work with your GP using their advise also. Your new lifestyle starts today so welcome keep active on the forum and choose a weigh in day maybe the same one as you have at the doctors if you are visiting there weekly. Good luck keep posting as how you are doing and shout out if you need help. 👍😊
It's anything to motivate really. I have lists in my diary, pro's and con's of loosing weight ( not much in the con's though) I have put a last year awful picture of me on my wardrobe to remind me never to get back to 17.1st. Also I use little motivational phrases to spur me on that I have screen shot onto my iPad.
Don't forget measurements are good too especially if you have an intense exercise regime as you will build muscle which is heavier than fat so the scales might not give a good reflection on your weight loss.
Hi this is what I am finding , I have reduced my food quantity, watching the calories, excercing and my weight has not budged by even a 1b , ?? Still flabby as well , I've been on this regime for 5 weeks ? Any ideas?
Hello, thank you for your reply. 1 lb a week does not seem a lot to lose. So hopefully I will lose 2stone by Christmas. I do aqua zumba, yoga and pilatea a week and I have been putting weigh on. My doctor say it might be the fat turning into muscle. I have no been eating health with the excise so hopefully both together and I will see some weight off.... do you weigh yourself weekly or monthly....
I started my weight loss weighing every 2 weeks then after joining some of the challenges on here I did every week. For me every 2 weeks is best as I loose weight slowly especially since I have been on this journey 1 year. It's what suits you best I get obsessed with the scales so put them away never to be seen again for 2 weeks. If you love to keep a close track every week would be good for you. Just don't get despondent if a few weeks you stay the same weight or even put on, hormonal issues play a part and we have to keep tweeking what we do. Eating too few calories won't make you loose weight more quickly so make sure you eat enough good calories for your height, weight, activity levels by checking the BMI calculator.
There's tons of research about exercise and actually gaining weight. It's not necessarily putting on weight through muscle gain (unfortunately) but treating ourselves afterwards with a coffee and cake🍰 I know that's what I do!! Oops!
Hello and welcome, first things first, they is the nhs 12 week plan, and a welcome intro here, which will give you some much needed info. The journey you are about to take is tough and will take time, tho depending on your current dietary habits may be quicker than you think.
2 stone is a daunting amount of weight to think of, an average is 1 to 2lbs a week, often folk loss more in the first week/weeks, count the weeks and days and make them matter!
Its quite possible that you may lose 7 to 8 lbs in your first month, be constructive , positive and ask for help and support when you need it
well it is a acheiveable just as long as you loose 2lb per week which is maximum range of weight loss reccommended. Rather than focus on the 4 stone, set a monthly target of 8lb a month and give yourself a non-food reward once you acheive your mini target- that is what a lot of experienced users of this website reccommend newbies who have to loose a lot of weight within a set time period on medical advice, to make the weight loss more acheievable and acceptable for the brain to grasp!
Good luck and I am sure you will get there or very close to it
Hi, welcome. Set your self min goals like half a stone at a time. You can lose 2 stone easily by then . If you aim for half a stone a month that's 7 months = 3.5 stone. To allow for ups from holiday etc 3 stone would be a realistic target I feel. Don't worry about December target tho - just focus on losing 1-2lb a week - even with that you will lose 28-56lb ! You can totally do this!

I believe you can loose 2st by December- hell yes you can! with a lot of walking, keeping busy, keeping on the go and cutting out all the crap. Still have the odd sausage at the weekend but just eat good wholesome food. When you find a lifestyle that you enjoy you forget about food anyway. I used to be 8st im now 10st, for my height my range is between 7st and 10st. Id like to loose 2 stone too. My lifestyle just sucks at the moment though. I used to be so busy. Life has slowed down a lot.
My life style has changed too due to health. I do yogo and pilates. As will as gardening and taking my dog for walking. But I have not been eating well. I mean making bad food choices. So now am going to make better choices. Problem is I am my own worst enemy. If I have one bicuit I think "so it I have had one might as well have the whole pack".....
I'm like that with crisps! I've not really got a sweet tooth which is fortunate, but I only buy crisps if I have invcluded it in my allowance and try not to get them until on the day or the day before- otherwise they don't last until the planned day I am due to eat them! I try and avoid the crisp aisle in the supermarket so am not tempted though occassionally I fail in this but more often than not I am good! I never hbuy multipacks now- I could finish the multipack bag in one sitting quite easily, which is the equivalent of your packet of biscuits! I suppose you can try and not buy them, but maybe treat yourself to having the pack of 2 biscuits when you are out that some cafes have as long as its included in your allowance
