Hi. I am really lacking motivation and really need to get fit and lose some weight. I want a healthy and sustainable method to lose weight and keep it off. I want to lose 2 stone ideally. Any tips and help would be gratefully appreciated. I really need the motivation as I’ve lost all confidence.

Hi Smileybeck1. You have definitely taken a positive step by joining the forum. You will lots of inspirational stories here of people that have lost a great deal more weight than you aim to lose. When I lack motivation then I think about the health benefits, the happiness I will feel when I fit into the many clothes I have but can’t currently get into and my general well-being. Use the forum and I recommend following the NHS 12 week plan. Good luck! And well done in taking the first step.

Hello and welcome Smileybeck :)

If you haven't already, please take the time to read the Welcome Newbie post, this will help you to navigate the forum, which is best done using the full website and not the app.

Please also take a look at all of the Challenges, Clubs and Events that we have, to help to keep you motivated and engaged with the forum.

Have a read of the post titled 'When weight loss is a struggle' and see if this inspires you to try something different.

If you decide to use a calorie controlled plan, then please make sure that you calculate your own personal calorie range by using the NHS BMI calculator and start at the top end.

The above link will take you to all the information you need. Participation is key to success and I would recommend that you at least join the Daily Diary and a Weigh In day of your choice.

Wishing you the best of luck in your weight loss journey and looking forward to seeing you around the forum :)

Motivation means the reason for doing something. That is personal to each of us. What are your reasons? Health? Appearance? Feeling good about yourself? Being able to do things/enjoy things that you can't at present?

Have a think about your motivation. Some members like to write it down and come back to it if they are flagging. The forum can help you with ideas, information and encouragement but the motivation must be your own :)

Hey Smiley welcome to the forum 🖐

Maybe you're finding it daunting because you're focusing on the amount you have to lose (which is same as me NOW not when I started 🤣). It helps to break it into mini goals, like my first one was to get under 200lbs. That was massive for me as I'd been yoyoing for the past two years.

Also,I've found it's not enough to simply think: I want to lose weight. You have to have a strong enough desire that will keep you going when it gets tough. I find that visualisation helps enormously. I day dream about when I am at my target weight, happy, healthy and successful. And it really spurs me on to make it become a reality. That's not to say I've never fallen off the wagon since i joined this forum. I have. Stacks of times. But the support i get here and my own determination to succeed keeps me trying and gradually moving forward.

You can do this! 💪Just take it one day at a time 🙂

Hi, you've taken the first step. Think of good food as nourising and taking care of yourself. The 12 week plan should help too. Alos have a good whinge here when you need to. getting things out of your system always feels good. Good luck. Shirley
