Hey Sally. I was 15 stone 6 pounds and am currently 13 stone 3 pounds. I choose 1 stone goals at a time but over all I am supposed to be 9 stone 7 pounds for optimum health and BMI. So that's about 6 stone loss like you!
For me the winning combination has been the 5.2 diet (cutting calories drastically twice a week whilst feeling 'normal' and happy the other days and even enjoying take aways and treats) and then going out for a half hour brisk walk every day and twice on weekends as I tend to eat more then. 30 mins for me works out at about 2 miles.
I have now began the Couch 2 5k programme too which is also on here and am on week 6 of its 9 week program. It means my walks are gradually becoming runs (slow jogs) which burns more calories.
I consistently lose 2lbs a week... Occasionally more... Doing this routine and although I will be estatic to get to 11 stone it no longer feels an impossibility to maybe keep going to 9 and half stone.
Most important thing on this journey is to find a diet and exercise routine that feels so right you do not dread it or feel down on it as it really is about the long term and becoming part of who you are.
In the distant past I did quite well on Slim fast but it was never something I could stick to and the weight always came back quickly after stopping.
An old lady in her 80's told me about the 5.2 diet and has changed my life - possibly saved it too from future diabetes and other obese related issues. It's the only diet that doesn't dictate what you have to eat and you can make it as healthy as you wish or not. I am very fussy and dislike most fruit and veg which most diets recommend salads and stuff. I get to eat chocolate and crumpets and chips and still lose weight lol. But if you do like salad and veg your find it even easier!
Also as you exercise - walk, gym, aerobics whatever your preference - you will find exercise actually suppresses your appetite and increases your muscle mass which in turn increases the calories your body burns just doing it's normal stuff, sitting, walking etc... So on my 5.2 I actually allow myself 800 calories on each of the two days instead of 500 and still lose 2lb minimum weight.
You will!
