I need, and am serious about losing weight without surgery. Anyone lost a huge amount? Any tips? Looking for a free online calorie count option that is based on UK foods, no offence to anyone outside UK but, I find the others complicated. Thanks again.

Thanks Minniewinny, did you find you lost weight then using it, am I being over critical of the calories
know I do well on lchf so thinking that way again but gallbladder not so keen however, need to do something I enjoy and I like that way of eating best!
Thanks Bananawoman, I was using that but, also used another and that one comes up lower in calories on so many things, I worry I wont lose using that one if it is inaccurate in calories. Need to be sure I am accurately logging.

I lost 60 ibs through intermittent fasting & eating a 90% whole foods diet. Meaning I cut out nearly all processed foods. I still treat myself now & then but get straight back on plan. Your calorie intake is extremely important. You need to be consuming less calories than you use. Eating a majority whole foods diet keeps you feeling fuller for longer & will result in you eating less.
Staying motivated.
I wouldn’t say its been easy. I’ve been losing weight for over a year now & I thought I would have lost it within a year. Weight loss should be slow & gradual. A year later i’m losing my last couple of pounds. I’ve lost motivation throughout the days, but you need to find a way to motivate yourself. I found watching youtube videos based on before & afters very helpful & brought me back on track.
Also remember everyone is different & what might work for me may not work for you.
It looks like you have done a really great job, thank you for sharing with us. Could you let us know how did you do intermittent fasting please? I am wondering if this is sustainable long term?
I had a bad phase in my life as a youngster and ate all the comfort food, which is generally high calorie. You know the rest, that’s why I had a shed load to lose as an adult.
Because you have 200lb to lose any good alteration to diet will bring immediate effects. Similarly you know the high calorie stuff, it’s where the extra 200lb came from, so start eating less of it. You know the good stuff, everyone does: make your meals from that.
See a health professional if you haven’t done, practise nurse can weigh you. Make an appointment for a month hence and determine to lose the weight they suggest.
Exercise - yes you can, even in a chair.
At some point you have to get real. Look at calories and portion size if it helps at the beginning but learning good habits is more effective in the long run: it turns a diet into a way of living - and it includes cake and alcohol in a way that enables you to enjoy them without the guilt which accompanies the mass consumption of ‘nice stuff to eat’.

I have only 1/4 of the weight that you have to lose. I find changing my eating habits to healthier foods much easier than counting calories. I have almost reached my target in 10 months. In past diets when I was counting calories I was trying to include foods that really I should have been cutting out altogether, and this of course was attributing a lot to my daily calories and left me feeling hungry. I also find it such a chore to keep counting calories. Initially I had to look at ingredients and calories until I had learnt what was best to eat, but now I know and just eat the right foods and it makes it so much easier. But whichever path you take I wish you luck.
I use my fitness Pal too, I started off on the NHS 12 week plan.. but tweaked it for my likes... I've lost over 10 and half stone in 14 months .. started my exercise with a chair pedal exerciser and dumbbells... Now on to kettle bells and walking... Plus incorporating the other two... Not going to say I haven't fallen off the wagon now and then but got straight back in to healthy eating plan .. as my health advisor says don't deny yourself any foods or you most probably will crave them.. like you I wanted to lose weight with no surgery.. ive got 5st 3lb to lose.. to get to my target weight... And believe me I think I can do it before even getting an appointment with the bariatric surgeon... Which my doctor referred me to July 17!!!!! Gone from a size 32/34 clothing ta very loose fitting 22 😊😊😊😊😊
That’s amazing. You must feel really great compared to how you used to feel, that’s such a lot of weight to have carried around. I think you can lose the rest of the weight too, you seem very determined and motivated and a great example for the rest of us. Good luck!
I've lost 6 st 3lb using the diabetes UK low carb high fat combined with intermittent fasting. Once you get your head around the foods you can eat it's simple. This lchf has been very successful with type 2 diabetes; people losing weight, improving their blood sugars and reducing the amount of medication they need. I find the intermittent fasting stops me from 'grazing' !
There are many nay sayers but take a look on the Web. I've done every diet known to man but have found this relatively easy. I still have a substantial amount to lose but am optimistic for once.
Already lost so much, you are doing fantastically well. Is the eating regime that you are on sustainable? Sounds like you have really turned your life/health around. Good luck.
I am currently captive at home and spend lots of time on net looking up recipes etc so have been able to vary foods.
I found something called cloud bread which is quite nice once you get the recipe right, can make pizza.😃
I find prepared low carb foods a rip off ( like supposed diabetic foods). Making meals from scratch is cheaper and you know what you've used.
I'm a typical saggitarian and love lists and I think this is working because I plan ahead, shop online accordingly and write the menu on a calendar on the fridge.
I've asked my 'treasure' to ignore all pitiful pleas to buy me so called goodies!

All these comments focus on food . I found exercise is important too . I don't mean clonking about with large weights or on a treadmill for hours but a gentle swim or a zumba / yoga - anything you like class . I got a reduced membership with a trainer who I see when I want to go through sensible exercises and targets via an NHS application called the PARIS scheme . It takes my mind off eating and I have found casual friends of all ages and sizes . I developed hiatus hernia caused mainly by incorrect diet . I have lost 17kg since Jan 2018 , following surgery with little effort and a few treats along the way .
Small steps , don't panic if you have the odd choc bar , shop after your meals and plan ahead .I used Myfitnesspal for 6 months then ditched as now I know what I like but it is a great free guide if you put in every single thing you eat and drink . I didn't take off the exercise calories but may have had the extra hot drink or piece of fruit .
Please keep posting on here . This site has motivated me so much . We may not have goals of 200lbs but every pound lost is such a delight .
I'm in a similar position, my walking is greatly curtailed because of pain and I'm at the push has come to shove stage. An operation is a no no 'cos I'm too big a risk and it's up to me.

How to lose weight by a desperate woman or how to continue with lchf.
I have generalised osteoarthritis and used to swim 6 times a week. I had an allergic reaction to hair removing mousse and developed chronic cellulitis. Unable to swim, weight gain followed along with the usual suspects - high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, reflux , type 2 diabetes and eventually I thought the worst possible condition : lymphodeama up to my waist. My legs were so heavy I couldnt lift them so couldn't go to bed. The skin broke down and my legs leaked then I got excema as well.
It took 18 months to access a 'chair-bed' & things improved slightly as now able to raise my legs.
Bits of me went to different clinics and I had to travel by ambulance. At one time my bottom would bleed each time I stood up as the skin stuck to clothing.
Not easy to manage at over 25 stone.
Worse was to come; I managed to eat myself into type 2 respiratory failure. I slept all the time, hallucinated and kept falling asleep when walking (so I thought).
I needed a 'lump' removed from my leg and attended a day unit. Panic rose when my oxygen levels were found to be 85. They wanted to admit me immediately to perform scans etc.
I am sole carer for mum and couldn't get any help for her so declined admission. I had to sign as refusing treatment before they would organise my return ambulance. I convinced them I was declining treatment at the time and had some tests before returning home.
Fast forward to my 'falling asleep' walking to bathroom, went backwards onto the edge of a wooden chair & really hurt my ribs.
999 AED; whizzed into resus as oxygen level was 69; admission for 6 days and home on 24/7 oxygen and bipap overnight.
This is why I have resolved to lose weight. All other conditions didn't make me try to lose weight but this one really was killing me.
I know this is a long shot that you will even see this so many months after, thank you for sharing. How are you getting on? I am back to find a motivation, I need to find the desire to live not exist
I'm trudging on, now have lost 7st 8lb. Things are slowing down but as long as I dont go up I'm happy with things.
I recently got a portable oxygen concentrator and have got a smaller mobility scooter. I've had an assessment with the bus company and have a pass to use 2 of the local bus services on the scooter.
I've amassed £200 gift vouchers which I couldn't get out to use so am planning a day in town.
I now only need 1 litre O2 which is great. I do still need to use bipap overnight.
I've just been discharged from dermatology and was very happy but .... on the back of my discharge letter there was a p.s. I have to have ultrasound as left kidney has 2 areas that need looking at.
I've also developed gout in my fingers so am getting a lot of pain and it's my right hand. I started meds on Saturday.
I still mainly stalk the forums and respond if I think I might help. My motivator to lose weight was dire but I'm not looking back.
I can empathise with the living instead of existing I've been a hermit since 2013; I got divorced and got a discretionary severence from work due to government cuts. I should be enjoying my pension but was merely lurching from day to day.
I moved from a flat to a lovely bungalow and have a garden which I love.
I hope this has helped, if I can do it after so long yo-yo ing it must be good.
Expect it to take quite a while, but you'll probably see smaller results quite quickly. Just try to calorie count and be really mentally strict. Aim for healthier alternatives and just try to avoid sugary treats or fried snacks altogether if you can - they add like nothing in terms of nutrition. Exercise will probably be difficult - start small like walking and then build up as you lose weight.
First of all, congrats and well done on deciding to lose weight without surgery - surgery can be hugely risky and dangerous. Second, even if it takes the weight a while to come off (this is unlikely unless you're already eating healthily/exercising regularly - usually when you have a lot of weight to lose the initial loss is faster and losing the last 50-20lbs or so is the hard bit, but just in case you are already doing that), eating healthily (which doesn't mean eating hardly anything - use the NHS calculator to figure out how many calories they suggest for weight loss) and exercising is always a good choice to make, even if you don't stick to it as perfectly as you think you should.
Lifelong changes can't be perfect, so don't beat yourself up and don't see small things like eating a chocolate bar or a bag of crisps, or having a nice meal out with family for a birthday/anniversary as a transgression, just accept it as a normal part of life rather than panicking or believing you've done anything wrong.
