7 stone to lose

alwaysstartingagain profile image

Here I go, after realising I am a disappointment to many and hearing comments from my grown up children about concerns and how bad I look I have decided to lose the weight. Life as been hell this last 4 years and I took to food, my weight going from 11stone to 17st 7lb. I know I look a mess. I am hoping I can do this by myself with the odd nudge off anyone out there who may offer kind words. I have hidden myself away for long enough and I want to gain much needed confidence and hopefully lose the first 2 stone in the next 4.5months in time for one of my children to come visit again. I would love to look in their eyes and see no embarrassment. Does anyone know where I put my weight? Thank you in advance x

Hi alwaysstartingagain

Welcome to the weight loss froum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Rose

Hi! I'm sorry you feel so bad about yourself. You sound determined to lose it this time and I know the forum will help you. In the mean time, hold your head up high, plenty of people look worse. Stand up straight and smile because in a week you will feel better and in a month you will start to look better. Keep it to yourself for a bit, let it be your secret until they all notice. That's what's I did. Good luck, keep posting

I agree, Ellamidlands, it's always nice when somebody suddenly notices you've slimmed down!

Don't be too hard on yourself alwaysstartingagain . We've all had that "aha" moment when we realized something needed to be done and it was time to get started. And for me, it's as much about being healthy as losing weight. I'm sure your children love you no matter what you look like and want you to be healthy and happy. I would be willing to bet that what might look like embarrassment has more to do with concern for you. Stop hiding and get out and enjoy life and love yourself. You are definitely worth it!

Welcome to the forum and Good Luck! :)

Hi don't worry you are not alone many of us here me included found ourselves at rock bottom and thank goodness I found this forum just like yourself today👍 last year I was just a little under you today 17.1 and also after a few horrible years family wise. Today you can change👍 everyone here is so encouraging and supportive, keep active on the forum, read posts answer if you can give advice and take what ideas will work for you. I started with the 12 week plan after checking my calorie allowance using the BMI calculator. Choose a weigh in day that suits you and off you go. Believe me if someone like me can do this a proverbial yo yo dieter so can you, it's not a diet but a lifestyle change.

Give yourself a small goal and when you achieve that treat yourself to a non food treat, new outfit, hairdressers, new item of make up etc then make another new goal etc.

Good luck and welcome to the forum 😊

Morning Itsbab, its encouraging to know people are having success. The kcal allowance for my weight is 1700 to 2200 which does seem a fair bit if I eat the right foods. I looked at one of my 'snacks' a full pringles and only since starting this on Friday I think wow nearly 1000 empty kcals or a few decent meals. I know it doesn't seem rocket science but I guess when you have let things spiral I just tended to eat the whole supermarket. This as been the first time probably ever I have done a weekend without any junk so am pleased on my first step. I just saw the look on my sons face when he saw me again after 6 months and it wasn't pleasant, I want the look to change after 4 months and him to see their is more about me than this shell. So that is my first goal. Thank you for taking time out to answer and goodluck with your journey still.

No problems but I am sure your children are looking at you with concern if your weight is going up and up. I found my hip was painful so were my knees and feet since loosing weight these have improved 100% and so my quality of life is better never mind feeling and looking better it's the pain free that I am loving at the moment.

My calories allowance is around 1400 as I am short with moderate exercise I would aim for the lower end of your scale so you have a buffer for those estimated foods lol.

To burn 1lb of fat off you need to burn 3,500 calories so just 500 calories less every day will see 1lb a week off that's 52lb ( 3st 10lb off in 1 year hope this puts it in perspective for you not such a hard job is it?

Choose wisely, look at labels low fat doesn't mean it's best quite often it's replaced with sugars which will make you feel hungry quicker. Fresh is best, and plan I used the 12 week plan sheets and filled them in religiously to start with now I just keep a basic track on things.

Hope you find things ok don't ban all treats as that makes you feel deprived but add them into your calorie allowance.

Don't beat yourself up if you lapse I have done this many times and it doesn't matter how many times you fall off the wagon so long as you get back on again.

Good luck for your first week any problems just shout out, lots of lovely people on here to answer your question.💐

They are concerned, I went from gym 4 times a week to giving in. I was attacked 4 years ago, had spine surgery which went a tad wrong. I became so in myself I couldn't concentrate on anything but I didn't show a weakness to my kids and they thought I handled it all well. I just turned to food and no exercise. I have all the pains you describe and its a comfort to know they could ease or go when I lose the weight. I am telling myself I can have the treats on birthdays and special occasions and a small one once a week. Its not ruling it out so I hope I find foods and ideas I love. I went and bought a soup maker, sweet potatoe and pepper its yum. Googled kcals and it seems the lot...which does 3 or 4 portions is only 250 kcals so I was pleased and I know whats in it. I think its just getting back into doing things from scratch which I haven't done in years. I will be happy with that 1lb a week but hoping this first week I can have one big loss to spur me on :)

I did the same and got myself a soup maker about 6 months ago never looked back. I bulk make mine and freeze it in portion sizes.

Salads etc at the mo though it's too hot for soup.

Well done for making the decision to start, as that is the first important step. I am sure that your children are just worried for your health. This is a brilliant forum for support on your weight loss journey. I agree with Ella. Don't hide away, stand tall and be proud of yourself for doing something about your health. Good luck!

I am a bit of a social hermit even when slim so I will find it hard getting out there but your right I have to do this for my health so I have to convince my brain to relax lol..:)

you should use that feeling from your children to motivate you to lose the weight and show everyone you can do it this time..... but it would help to break it down into 7lbs goals rather than focussing on the bigger number... its taken me 7mths to lose 2st and my goal was to lose 4st by december but my weight loss on the scales is slow but im losing inches all the time..

when i dont want to go to the gym my kids tell me to go as ive asked them to help me to lose the weight and it really helps me to keep motivated as they make me feel guilty and i know if i dont then it could reduce the time they have a 'mum' around and just that thought is enough for me to get my trainers on.

Good luck with 'starting again' and hope its the last time you have to do that x

I understand everything there and it scares me not to be here for them too so your right this alone should be enough...thanks for your advice and good luck x

Well done for taking the first step😘 I had the wake up call too and have completed 14 weeks on the NHS plan now 1 and 1/2 stone lighter. I'm not finished but it's a start. You can do it just follow the plan. I did the C25k exercise is a huge boost to weight loss. Go for it.😊
