Active 10
It depends how fit you are and what you prefer
We debated this here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
anything that gets you moving is a good thing
There was a discussion here a day or two ago about this.
Maybe it's just my take but I feel the consensus was that you do what you're comfy with... what makes sense to you.
It looks possible that the Active 10 will burn more energy but not everyone is cut out mentally or physically to do that, which makes having a 10k goal more achievable.
I agree with others what feels good for you is the best for you. Some who are recovering from illness or have a disability can only do what they are capable of so not everyone can do the brisk walk once a day. Just be able to move is a blessing So keep doing what you are doing
Thanks for your post . I am recovering from surgery . Even a 70 min slow walk will burn 215 cals and help strengthen muscles , break the day and get me fresh air . So if I use a counter it is easier to know this . Gives me a slight buzz as well and we all need motivation which can be different and varied .
I agree about MM. His results always seem so clear-cut but he only uses a very small number of people in each group - you might find if the numbers were increased that there was a lot of overlap between the two groups and no real difference overall. I think the important thing is to increase your activity gradually and what activities you do and how you measure it will depend on a lot of things.
Many wise words on this forum on this!
If you look up the programme 'the truth about getting fit' on bbc iplayer they revealed that the 10,000 steps thing is not based on scientific evidence it was a marketing gimmick....whilst walking that far is good for you its not sustainable for everyone, so the walking briskly for 3x 10 mins actually was better.....there were lots of other reassuring fitness tips in the programme too.....biggest message I got from it was do what you love and what you can sustain long term.
Hi there
Yes I saw that too
I think the key is you must walk fast for 10 mins so you raise your heart beat and do that 3 times during the day
I have been walking fast in one walk for about an hour daily and my fitness has increased tremendously.
This new research will help me feel less anxious if I don’t manage a full hour all at once because of inclement weather
I think the most important thing is to move more as I am reformed couch potato 🥔
I have never been tempted by a Fitbit or step counter - although others I know love them! I just know that walking uphill is better than down - anything that makes you warm and a little puffed is burning calories! Even climbing the stairs indoors a few more times than normal is better than sitting watching the TV....
Always best to do what excerise makes you feel comfortable I do brisk walking nearly 7 days per wk with no days off but I feel that works for me tbh.
Its what works for you and what you are comfortable with. We all have different drivers and different goals.
