Due to health problems and hip, knee, back being painful at times excruciating it's hard to excercise, even walking can be a drain.
But thankfully joining here has made me more conscious of doing some daily movement to get some excercise.
So each day since Sunday I have had a good walk around shops and pushing my husband in his wheelchair ( unfortunately does not help the pains). I did some gardening another day which I pay for by increased pain. Did a lot of jobs around the house and today I'm off out walking around shops getting bits and bob's I need.
It may not be the gym or aerobics class but it's keeping myself moving as due to pain I had become very inactive.
I have goals to increase my movements but it's small steps at a time.
I just want to say coming on here and reading others problems it has made me realise you can do it a step at a time to gain weight loss and better health.
Even though it's only a few days I do feel better and have a more positive mind set.
So if anyone has similar problems 're exercising don't give up and do a little each day to build up to do those elusive 10,000 steps a day.
I'm glad you've found something that works for you and that you've found a more positive mind set. Sometimes that's the first step, just to get going in the right direction!
Just wondering if you've looked into exercises that can be done sitting down? That could help get you moving without putting too much strain on your knee and hip. When I worked at a nursing home a lady used to come in and do chair exercise with the residents that could be done in their wheelchairs. Might be worth checking with a physio to see what you can do and how to do it safely!
Thank you for comments, I've just got a DVD exercise for over 60's so it's gentle and I will be doing that.
I think the last twelve months long story but health issues for my husband too has had a big impact on our lives. We have come through the down days now so it's onwards and upwards by accepting our limitations and doing what we can.
It is always difficult when you end up caring for a loved one. I'm not sure where you live, but anywhere in the UK you should be eligible for some kind of carers support, and there could be support available for your husband as well. You will need to contact your local council to find out and it's generally needs and means based. It's not usually a quick process so it's good to ask for help before you reach burn out levels! And you are entitled to an assessment free of charge to find out, under the Care Act 2014. They may or may not charge you for subsequent parts of the process, but the social worker who handles your case is required to provided you with full details of any costs to you that are involved. And of course you can also decide not to take the recommendations of the assessment.
Chin up, and make sure you take care of yourself as well.
Good luck!
Hi Lottie
Well done 👏 pushing a wheelchair is darn hard work.I have nothing but respect.👍
Healthy eating is the key principle. You can join the 🐢group and you know what the story is about the 🐢and the 🐇the 🐢wins.
Well done on increasing the moving 😊 As others have said eating is the key to losing weight, but moving helps in so many other ways, boosts our mood etc
10,000 steps is very general and for older people the guidelines suggest 8,000. However I personally aim for 7,000 due to arthritis. More importantly, I try to move regularly throughout the day, just 5 minutes dancing to the radio or pushing the Hoover all help 😊
