Welcome Mark to this forum. You will really learn and benefit from what the members share here. Its important that you already know your downfall - comfort eating. That's already one step in the right direction! I would suggest you fill up by eating healthy, nourishing and satiating meals at all meals times that will keep you full longer and minimize the chances for binge eating through comfort foods. Opt to have more protein portions in all your meals and reduce the carbs to see some change with your energy. All the best in your journey!
Thanks I will be trying to have two thirds of a meal as vegetables and I will cook some chicken to pit in the fridge so I can take the skin off and graze on that if necessary
Hi and welcome
WOW you have done great in the past and you can do it again
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊
Hi Mark, I am starting on Monday too. I have been on diets for as long as I can remember and whenever I have lost any weight I have put it on again. I need to lose about 5 stone. I am thinking about trying the Couch to 5K exercise plan too, but as I haven't done any exercise for years I wonder how I will manage with that. I am encouraged by other postings saying the key is to build up really slowly to the running. So wishing you luck with this Mark. I will be looking out for your postings telling us about your progress,
Hi Masswillgo (Mark) and welcome to our cosy place! All the support you need is here.
All of us have more difficult weight loss journeys and will face our own demons and challenges. I have a disability which means that I find exercise virtually impossible HOWEVER, I also realise that my weight was also starting to disable me further!
I wonder whether you have addressed your "emotional" eating habits? I can assure you that you're not alone. Many people eat when they are happy, when they are sad... but also depending on the type of food you are eating, it can actually affect your mood. Hopefully you'll find once you start to tackle the weight, your mood will lift and you'll actually start to enjoy the journey!
There is a lot of information about this on the internet, but here is one link that you may find useful:
Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.
Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.
Wow thank you for your help I will have a read as far as the emotional eating goes I guess I need to sort that . With exexcise this may be controversial but I think you will find its true that the exercise is a small part of it we often beast our selves because we have eaten to much but you will only fat burn with a pulse under 150 and although it helps weightloss you may only loose an extra pound or so a month unless you are an elite athlete and can loose a pound running round the block like boxers do. The food is the real key. Well done on 4stone loss that's awesome
I absolutely agree. I think diet accounts for something like 85% of our weight loss and only 15% exercise. So concentrating on what goes into our mouths is vital! I'm not certain those percentages are precise, but it's something like that...
Like you I lost a lot of weight then put most of it back on.. its very easy to do! But the main thing is your ready to start again! I And like you my weakness is savoury food..pastry, bread, crisps, cheese lol everything basically! The great thing I find about this diet is that you can still have it all just count in with your daily allowance. Last night I had some crackers and cheese for my supper.. what a treat!
I wish you well and the best of luck on your journey, you did it once u can do it again
Good for you never giving up on yourself. You've done great before so share your experience. You'll get great support from the forum so stay active and post often
