Hello : I've been diet all my life and I... - Weight Loss Support
Hello
Hi and welcome Cal17
What a journey you are going on - good on you for making the changes you feel are right for you
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ๐
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ๐
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ๐
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ๐
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ๐ We also have a daily diary section which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ๐
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ๐

Hi and welcome Cal17
Don't try and change everything at once, make small sustainable changes, sugar swaps (change 4 life app) calorie counting (my fitness pal app)
Find an exercise you enjoy and have fun doing it (your more likely to stick to it if you're having fun)
Set yourself small goals (7lb loss, I went swimming, I had 5 a day all week, I stayed within my calorie allowance for a week) and then reward yourself non-food for each goal (a book, a magazine, a game, New clothes)
Stay active on the forum, join a challenge, a weigh in, the daily diary is fantastic for help, support and ideas, ask questions, chat or just read the posts it really does make a difference
Remember it's a journey, don't panic if you have a bump in the road, pick yourself up and carry on (we all have them) post at any time you need support, we are all here for the same reason
Most importantly enjoy your journey, relax and have fun
Good luck
Kat xx
Are you sure you are eating enough calories as it states in the bmi calculator to lose weight. When I first joined I was never eating enough calories all the time because I had always wanted to lose weight so thought I would lose weight faster if I ate less but never managed to get anywhere on any diet I did. I found out on here that if you don't eat the right amount of calories as it advises you to on the NHS bmi calculator your body thinks you are starving it so it turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the right amount of calories would so you end up not losing weight and occasionally putting on weight. I upped my calories and started eating between the amount advised and now have lost 2st. At least make sure you are not making this same mistake. Good luck with your journey.
Welcome Cal17
Well done on making this big descision. Good luck for getting started and keep posting for support as others have said
