Nightmare! I stepped onto the scale this morning and realized I'd gained 5 pounds over the past two weeks! What ever shall I do?
Starting weight - 256 lbs. on February 23rd
Weight on June 22nd: - 230 lbs.
Weight today - 235 lbs.
Loss/Gain -- Up 5 lbs!
Net loss -- 21 lbs.
I realize now, that I have indulged these past two weeks. Visits from close family members have lead to indulgences of various kinds: Alcohol, dairy, salty snacks, fried foods like bacon and eggs, and other calorie dense foods like meat, bread, and other processed foods. What shall I do?
Well, my success now depends on my actions today. It's particularly important I pay close attention to everything, especially what goes into my mouth. From my list of 31 Healthy habits, I will prioritize the following for this week:
4) Eat real, unprocessed foods; 9) avoid alcohol; 10) don't beat myself up for slipping up; 16) eat scheduled meals within a narrower time-frame; 34) exercise with weights; 35) take more than 35 minutes of aerobic exercise daily.
These six priorities, together with as many of the other 31 Healthy Weight loss Habits I've identified over the years should be sufficient to get my weight loss started again. In 7 days we'll know.
A slip up is a slip up, nothing more. If you catch it after two weeks rather than after two months with much bigger gain - it’s already a positive. You seem to have a good plan in place already. Wishing best of luck!
I put on 3 kilos. a kilo a month. Trying to eat something every couple of hours with only 100 calories. any suggestions anyone. i have at least 3 stones to lose....
My advice would be to make sure you're eating the correct amount by putting your details into the NHS BMI calculator nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we... and stick to three meals a day with no snacks. Every time you eat, you will have an insulin response and during that time you'll be in fat storage mode, not fat loss mode. It's only in the periods between meals that our bodies are able to stop hoarding fat, so the longer the gap, the more weight you'll lose.
All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.
We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.
Wishing you all the best
Hi there and welcome back. You are doing the best thing by recognizing what you've done and putting a plan together to rectify it. Not giving up is the best advice I can give as that would be the easy option and wouldn't make you happy xx
It's worth noting it's not all fat. To gain 5lb in two weeks, you'd have to eat an extra 2500kcal every day. So it's probably some fat, but also water and the contents of your digestive system. You should lose a lot of it after a few days of being careful
Thank you for these words, Subtle_badger. It's difficult not to obsess over a couple of pounds of weight gain, but your rational explanation makes sense to me. The salt in the processed meat I ate all by themselves, (hot dogs), probably account for the weight I've gained. I do a really good job avoiding Sodium generally, but these past few days have been an exception to that!
It hard in lock down, I lost 2 stone I cut the rubbish out and yoga xx
Another way of looking at it, Manda43, is that it's easier in lockdown to focus on my own priorities, and to take the whole experience as an opportunity to really focus on fitness and weight loss. Yoga is good!
