Hi my name is Linzi, I'm a newbie looking for all the support I can get. I packed up smoking a week ago and really don't wish to put weight on, as I'm already 2 stone over my ideal weight. In 3 weeks time I turn 50 and my metabolism is much slower these days. My determination is to be a fit and healthy 50 year old!

In need of support...
Hi Linzi1ou well done on giving up smoking 🎉🎉 the support and encouragement you will find here for your weight loss journey is brilliant! 🌻
Hi and welcome Linzi
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey

Hi Linzi I packed up smoking five year's ago it was the best thing I have done I am not saying it is easy but now I look back and think I don't smell of smoke I have more money in my pocket I have so much more energy. yes I did put weight on to start with When I knew that I would not smoke any more I lost all the weight I put on if you can pack up smoking you can sort your weight out afterwards (good luck
Hi Linzi - well done giving up the fags! That took determination - weight loss takes up equal determination. Don't believe anyone who says you can't lose weight after 50 - I'm about to turn 55 and have lost 1stone since I started in October last year. I've now reached my first goal of 9st 6lb, but will continue to eat healthily and lose weight.
It's down to portion control, sensible eating with a good balanced diet. No snacking unless it's apples or carrots or nuts (mmmmm). And honestly, after a while you just get used to it, that's the way it has to be if you want to lose the weight.
You've obviously got will power, you can use that on your next project and find all those clothes that you'd never thought you'd fit into. It's a blast, fight the desire to eat and lose that weight!
If you can give up smoking you can do anything so good luck with your weight loss.
Well done on giving up smoking and good luck with your weight loss.
I was the same - always imagined I'd never lose weight if I also ditched the fags but I'm here to tell you that ain't necessarily so, Linzi1ou! You can do both but it needs a new mindset - none of that feeling sorry for yourself because you're doubly deprived! Keep reminding yourself WHY you're doing this, and that you're in it for the long haul. Don't expect overnight miracles, celebrate every small victory (whether it's a day without ciggies or fitting a chocolate bar into your calorie allowance!) and you really will very soon start to feel, and see, the benefits, I promise! My clothes already fit better and I celebrated my 1-stone loss with a new hairdo. Remember to be kind to yourself, not critical - good luck
