High BP still not motivating me to loose weight

lillib01 profile image
7 Replies

Last November the gp agreed to monitor my bp (150/99) rather than put me straight on tablets advising if I could loose 10kg as a start with lifestyle changes I may be able to avoid them all together. I was determined come January after holidays etc this would be my aim. Since then I've had the flu twice, had an urgent operation and it's nearly April and I've lost only 2lb

Totally lacking in energy and motivation. Not sure if I'm getting depressed too but if my bp isn't enough of a motivation I don't know what is!

Morning lillib01

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbies post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start along with a photo so you can see the changes on the days when the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come and join us. You can find the weigh in on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and state your starting weight and any loss/gain or maintain over the week.

To get the best out of the forum be active, share experiences, tips and recipes. Read some of the posts in the Topic section, they can be motivating.

Have a good first week.

Hi. I hope you can find the motivation by reading some of the posts on here. Many people used a health scare to spur them on but it must be better to lose the weight before something horrible happens to us. I wish you luck, keep posting and replying as we are a supportive bunch. I find this forum really helps me. 🤞

Good morning lillib01

Everyone on here are very supportive and you will find lots of help and advise

I have only been on here for a few weeks and I feel like part of the furniture ( an old comfy chair!) lol

The fact that you are here means you haven't given up so a big pat on the back for that

Slowly does it and good luck 😉🤗

Hello lillib01 and welcome to the forum ☺

I hope you've had chance to have a good look around the forum. It can be a little confusing so if you are finding it difficult to find things have a look at this

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Motivation is a strange thing, sometimes just taking control of one aspect of your diet can help. Maybe stopping snacking, or reducing sugar or even keeping a food diary. This is the single biggest help to me, by writing it down I realised just how often I was snacking.

Have a look at the link, and please ask if you have any questions ☺

Best wishes

Anna

hi. i was in a similar situatuon as you and in december i was put on 10mg tablets to reduce it.... im only 45 so shouldnt need tablets at my age... anyway i was horrified and made a pledge to my husband and family that i would try to lose weight to get my bp down myself.. anyway... 4mths on and ive lost over a stone... lost 20cm of my waist & 8cm of my hips by getting more active and eating better. the best thing is my bp tablet has been cut by 1/2 and now 5mg and my bp is usually a 120/80 now. the doctor advised if i keep on going like this then he reckons i will hopefully be able to come off them.

I could have just took the tablets and thought ah well im controlling it but chose to heal myself instead and took the more difficult path.

if you have a family like me then the thought of them losing their mum was my motivation and its that love that is keeping me motivated 4mths on.

Good luck x
