Despirate to loose weight

β€’14 Replies

Hiya, I'm 31 and have been battling weight since I was 10. I lost 6 stone when I was 15 but put it back on 2years later. I start diets but the longest they seem to last is around 2 months. My mobility isn't great due to pain after my last child so struggle with excersise, money is tight and in between work I'm knackered, but I really want to loose weight it would benefit my life in a million ways I'm just despirate to see if there are any ideas on how I can stick to it lifelong no matter what comes up or function is happening?

Hi and welcome you've come to the right place :)

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask 😊

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Wishing you all the best on your journey :) YOU CAN do this :)

Hello Abiroseellis01 and welcome.

You lost 6 stone before which must have taken tremendous control. Goes to show that you do have the strength to get this to work.

It might be worth trying to think about your coming journey as a lifestyle change and not as a diet. The idea is to start changing ways that you do things but change them in a way that they become a part of your life and are sustainable for the future.

There is much we can do but it doesn't have to be rushed and all done in one go. Cracker10 has mentioned the NHS 12 week plan, which is what has helped me lose weight this year. I recommend reading it in detail although there are many other methods used by the people here.

Just post whenever you have a question or just want to say something, as there are lots of knowledgeable, friendly and helpful here.

Good luck!

Hi Abirosiellis01

The fact that you are only 31 should be a tremendous boost for you. There are so many of us that thought about weight control at a later age, you have time on your side! However, dont think there is always to-morrow any more. Keep looking at suggestions on here and keep them all in mind and tell yoursefl I WILL DO IT. AND TRY TO BE POSITIVE ABOUT ANY SETBACKS. you have proved it once, so try again. Write down your sabotage things and determine to eliminate them from your life. We will all be rooting for you!

Aww thank you so much! That's a good idea cutting out the things that tarnish it because it's those things that stop the diet so should focus on them times An try fix them, was doing well for 2 months recently then had loads of family doos and fell off the wagon for 3 weeks now I can't get back on x

Try and remember how you started the day when yiou were losing weight before and then do anything to stop you nibbling in between meals.

Hope it helps!

Hi and welcome, Abiroseellis :)

I would suggest that you stop thinking in terms of "diet" and start thinking of changing to a healthy lifestyle. This is something that doesn't stop when you've lost the required amount of weight, but is a lifelong commitment.

The majority of us here, are serial yoyo dieters and have learned the hard way, that it just doesn't work. You need to find a way that suits you and is sustainable and stick with it. That means there has to be enough flexibility to accommodate high days and holidays, without going completely off the rail :)

One Event that we have, that Hidden hasn't mentioned, is our Daily Diary. This is a place where we share menu and exercise plans, for accountability and some great ideas :)

You can do this and we can help :)

Hi, I really do know how you feel, I have lost weight so many times but usually regain it cos I have a very bad relationship with food. Over the past few years I have been considering the psychology of food and why we overeat and I recently started reading a book called 'beyond chocolate' which is about tuning into what your body needs and eating what you like but only when you are hungry. I have been trying to apply these principles and I have started losing just a pound a week which actually I'm quite happy with. If I want cake, I have it, surely this is one of the best ways to control our weight for a lifetime. Good luck x
