I'm new here. I would like to lose weight. I have an underactive thyroid which I currently take thyroxine for I am a healthy eater and active but I find my weight just creeps up. I weigh 12stone 5lb and my height is 5' 5" I used to be around the 10stone mark. I have tried dieting I lose the weight when I do lose it I feel really good about it, but then it starts to come back on and I find I weigh even more than before the I comfort eat which does not help. I do exercise and I am active. I just wondered if anybody else finds it difficult to lose weight and keep it off after being diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I've been to weight watchers etc but none of that has really helped me maintain my weight loss.

Hi jhan. I too have an underactive thyroid and take levothyroxine. At the beginning of this year I was 11 stone 10 and decided I had to do something. I kept within my calorie allowance and tried to exercise as much as possible and slowly the weight came off until I reached my goal of 9 stone 10. After my summer holiday and recent birthday celebrations I have put back on about half a stone but I know that with the support and motivation from this forum I will get back down again and am intending to maintain below 10 stone. The other thing that helped me was changing the time of day I took the levothyroxine. I would often take it later in the morning but I discovered that the optimum time to take it was first thing and half an hour before food. This then gave time for the meds to be absorbed into the body fully. Obviously check with your Doctor or pharmacist for your situation but just wanted you to know this in case it may help you. Best of luck
Weight loss is more difficult I'm afraid, but it's is possible 😊 You don't say how old you are but age also makes losing weight harder. But it is achievable,😊 You are akready active so it's a question of portion control. Many food items come in much larger portions so vigilance is needed. For example I weighed a bread roll recently and it weighed 5 oz!!! My total daily carbohydrate allowance!! Eeeeek!!! 😜
Take a look at the newbies thread and track your calorie consumption and you will soon be on the right road 😊😊😊
If your thyroxin levels are correct it shouldn't make any difference to your ability to lose weight but I agree with Muffintop about timing. I take mine before I get out of bed in the morning.
