No weight loss this week

CurteisS profile image
11 Replies

This is my first week counting my calories. I’ve stayed below my advised calorie intake all week except one day. Had my weekly weigh in and I haven’t budged. I would of thought the first week I would at least lose a pound.

I also have an under active thyroid which is medicated so I don’t know if that’s to do with it, it’s the reason I put on all the weight in the first place.

I just feel deflated!

Any advise?!

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum CurteisS

You will have been given links to our Pinned Posts in your Welcome Message when you first joined, please read them carefully as they contain a lot of information about finding your way around.

If your thyroid is correctly medicated it shouldn’t affect your weight loss, maybe have a read of this for more help? healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

This is a very busy forum with lost going on so please ask if you have any questions.

Best Wishes in your weight loss journey

It’s a lot to take in but with reading it a few times it makes sense. I will try to keep an eye on what I’m eating as well the calorie count.

Let’s see how it goes.

Thank you!

Yes, it is, it turns all our traditional thinking on its head. ☹️

Hi CurteisS

if it won't affect you too much emotionally then I'd suggest weighing in every day, preferably 1st thing in the morning, then taking an average as some days your weight can be up because of a wide variety of reasons (salt, time of last meal, stress, amount of sleep etc.) that have nothing to do with amount of fat loss in the week.

Also to help with motivation I have a list on my phone that I put all my non-scale-victories in to look at when I'm lacking motivation or the scale is misbehaving to remind myself that I'm doing this for my long-term health not so I can say I'm Xlbs.

I understand that weight can vary through the week so it shouldn’t effect me emotionally so I will try this.

Thank you very much!

I use an app that generates an moving average (a trend line) that smooths out the bumps. I find it helps me ignore the ups and downs.

That sounds good, what’s the app called if you don’t mind me asking?

It's called Slimming with Strangers.

Don't be discouraged CurteisS it's only been one week.

Maybe your body's just in shock and wondering what's going on.

Are you eating enough? Have you gone by the NHS calculator for your height and weight?

Sometimes it's what we're eating rather than the calories themselves that's the issue.

Maybe read all the links that you got sent initially if you haven't already because it may explain things better.

Good luck, you will lose soon 👍

This is because you are being completely misled by so-called 'experts' who haven't the faintest idea what they are talking about.

'Calories' are mostly made up from fat and carbohydrate. Fat in food is nigh-on irrelevant in terms of weight control (I know - it's totally counter-intuitive but there it is). It is **carbohydrate** content that is the key. Keep all that you eat as close to or below 10% carb (ignore the 'sugars' bit on the packaging) and you *will* lose weight. Simples!

You really do not have to suffer to lose weight but unfortunately we have been fed such a lie for the last 50 years (principally by an incredibly cynical food industry) that our dietary norms revolve around high-carb foods. Sugar is the arch-evil amongst them, swiftly followed by potatoes. If you can all but illuminate just these 2 things from your diet you will almost certainly lose weight. Fortunately most other veg (and lots of fruits, nuts and other naturally occurring foods (BUT NOT BANANAS!) are relatively low in carbs. So, reduce your spud portion and up everything else and it really takes the pain out of losing weight.

Alcohol (pure) has zero carbs so spirits are not an issue, wine is a bit dodgy and beer a complete no-no (unless it's a 'lite' one).

Just get used to looking at the total carb content per 100g (it's on the packaging of almost everything on the shelves these days) and try to keep everything about 10% or less and start losing weight! Good luck!

Not what you're looking for?
