Hi Candl

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Hello Candl 😊

I have an under active thyroid but have managed to lose weight 😊 I think it is more difficult but it's still possible 😊

Have a look at the links Rose suggested and ask if you have any questions 😊

Best wishes

Hi Candl

I too have an underactive thyroid and am on 100mcg of thyroxine daily and have been for many years. If you are having regular blood tests your GP will be adjusting your dosage so that your thyroxine levels will be in the normal range and it should not effect your ability to lose weight. My thyroxine levels are only checked once a year now because they have stabilised. Ask for another blood test if you think you are not on the right dose yet.

I have been on a simple weight loss plan since the beginning of January and lost two and a half stone so don't let your under active thyroid effect your motivation.

Best wishes

Hi and welcome.

I am under active thyroid diagnosed in Dec 2013 but the gp said at the time that it had clearly been going on for some time. I started on 75mg but every single blood test I have shows it as out of range (0.4 - 4.0 at our lab) and mine usually comes back around 8.5! With instructions to GP to up dose by 25mg hence I went up to 175mg. At this point I was referred to an endocrinologist at the hospital who said that the thyroid probably contributed to weight gain (m. Obese) but was not the reason I couldn't lose... therefore discharge as doesn't expect tests to come back abnormal- but they did! Out of range but this time 0.01!!- hyperthyroidism and low and behold I lose stone on my counterweight diet (800 cal milkshake diet for 12 weeks) in three weeks... but as new lower dose thyroxine kicks in week 5 weigh in - 200g? Weight loss for 2 weeks work - gutted! Dietitian is querying the thyroid and is in talks with my gp to get me retested and referred to a metabolism expert possibly at Addenbrookes

Yes you can lose weight if thyroid working efficiently but sadly my gp has never managed to keep me in normal range for more than 3 months. 😬😬😬

I'm also underactive and sometimes stable but my auto immune hashimotos will flare up from time to time and at one point, I moved to overactive. I cycle between 75 and 100 mcg day about, but my last couple of bloods have shown my T3 is creeping up again so I'll probably need to up my dose.

When my levels are stable, I can lose weight quite consistently but it can be very slow going. But unfortunately my levels don't stay that stable for long periods.

Not what you're looking for?
