NEED TO GET STARTED
Hello
Many people on here follow the NHS 12 week plan, (there will be a link from the website) or another form of calorie controlled diet. I personally, like the British Heart Foundation plan but it is still a restricted calorie plan. Finding the right plan for you can make the whole process more enjoyable.
Like yourself, arthritis restricts my exercise and I found it difficult to get into a routine of eating less and exercising. however, I have managed to lose weight and now exercise is much easier 😊 enjoyable actually!
Good luck 😊
I really feel for you as I too have issues with exercise including pain. What I have done is focused on reduced calories. I suppose less output and less input. I also am interested in food, how it impacts our health etc, how certain foods heal us and so on. Perhaps that is your best approach. Have you asked your Doctor any advice. I am new to the UK but I know where I was from, there were special gyms for people who have limited movement. Or you could try swimming? Just some ideas.
I tried to get into the pool here and had a panic attack and could not get out I always swam but since the back injury it has been tough but will keep on trying..Thanks for replying..
I agree goodtimes 😊 You seem to have a lot on your plate, and are probably feeling vulnerable and not very confident 😕 Chronic pain does that to you 😕
Do you go to see a Physio? Do you know you can 'self refer' or your GP can do it for you, I found her advice invaluable, and the exercises still form part of my exercise routine.
Good luck and very best wishes 😊
Hi good times, sounds like you're dealing with a lot. I think the NHS 12week plan could definitely help you. The plan doesn't give you set meals and so A really good starting point would be to make a list of foods you actually like which are also healthy and the plan a few days menus around that. That said I am going to look up the BHF plan Anna61 mentions.
I am glad you are not giving up on water based exercise. When I first took up swimming again I was on crutches and finding most movement very painful. I used the council pool and I used the warmer children's pool in the evenings when there are no children. I didn't try and swim, just very gentle movement and the first couple of sessions I didn't stay in long. In the council funded swimming pools, you should find the staff are incredibly sympathetic and helpful because they will definitely have the right training.
Feel better soon.🌻
