How to get started

Hi, my first time of logging on to here - I've got 6 stone 5 to loose and don't know where to start - I mainly over eat once my little girl has gone to bed - during the day I'm fine. I'm just shovelling food in - not enjoying it and certainly not hungry!

I lost the weight after giving birth to my little girl 4.5 years ago but had a painful breakup about 1. 5 years ago and since then the weight has piled on.

I am an ex smoker of 5 years and an ex bing drinker of about 6 years.

Have you got any tips how I can get started...

Hey Kezza1066, you've made the first step. Fantastic! Just take it slowly and a step at a time. I've lost 5&1/2 stone over the last four years. Still have about 1&1/2 to go. It didn't all happen at once but it did happen. Every pound down is a success. Good luck!!!!

Hello kezza1066 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

Well done on taking that first step on your weight loss journey 😊 You are not alone in comfort eating, or nighttime nibbling

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

Hi Kezza and welcome!

I would highly recommend the NHS 12-week plan. It's full of sound advice and doesn't expect you to do everything at once. It's a great starting point and is also free (which is my favorite part!).

Congratulations on giving up smoking and drinking, those are very hard to tackle. If you can do that I'm sure you'll be able to do this!

Good luck! :)

Never lose the same pound twice. It's a waste of your time and energy. A week of maintaining is still a successful week. Better that, than putting on and then having to re-lose that same pound over and over again. I call that 'treading water' And we all aim to be 'swimmers' here! Have a look around, get to know the success stories that are here in abundance EllaMidlands and Candystripe are some inspirational examples, maybe even take your time to choose a weigh in day. You're here, that's the first big step. You have a beautiful daughter, your smoking and drinking to excess days are behind you, which shows what real depths of will power and strength you have to draw upon.

Can anyone remind me where the happiness post is, where you say what you are thankful for? I saw it recently but have lost it. It reminded me that we don't always count the good stuff in our lives, just the bad.

Let's all be more positive! I'm thankful for my courgettes today ( snigger )
