Trying to loose weight and advoied cheesecakes any advice
Would love to be able to tell you it is easy but I am afraid it isn't. You have to accept that if you want to lose weight you have to make changes to your diet and that includes cutting out high fat and high sugar foods like cheesecake. You basically have two choices, make the changes and lose weight or don't and stay fat. Sounds blunt but it's the truth
Hi lorna. Welcome to this very friendly group. I only joined a week ago but already had some lovely supportive posts. I am following all the advice on the 12 wk nhs plan, have a look it's packed full of hints and tips. I basically calorie count so this definitely means you don't have to go without that slice of cheesecake or anything else you fancy, just add it in and be honest with yourself. Too much sugar is never gonna be good - moderation, moderation. I had a bad wk this wk ( fish and chips and other yummies) but I've still lost weight. Good luck. Onwards and downwards x
We can't do it for you, but if you join in all the challenges etc on here (see the pinned posts on the right) and you will hopefully find some inspiration and motivation.
Before I started the plan last September, I decided to totally stop eating sugar to cure my addiction. I went cold turkey overnight and it has helped my cravings completely.
It may be too a drastic step for you, but I am certain I had some weird dependency going on!
Anyway, if I can lose weight, despite living within spitting distance of Greggs, I am sure you can.
If you need some help with hints and tips about the plan and this forum, look at this post written by Moreless, a very handy introduction and welcome for new people:
I think calorie counting might be the answer. I'm new to this and after a good start this week had a bit of a wobble yesterday - millionaire's shortbread at Costa and some fried tapas and wine on a night out. I did go over my calories but not so much that I can't claw some back before the end of the week - and that stops me beating myself up about it and quitting. Life goes on after all! Have some cheesecake and enjoy it.
Could you weigh the portions and have a small slice? Making sure you include it in your calorie counts.
However the easiest thing is not to have them in the house. The rest of the family may not thank you but they will benefit .
I agree. if calorific snacks nd cakes inhouse I won't stop till they are gone, but I am fine if not in house.
Hi, It really isn't easy all I can say is take one day at a time and celebrate each victory by posting on here and see the support you get. I'm now on week 7 an 9 lb lighter. Baby steps and don't beat yourselves up if you do slip up just put it behind you and start again. Not the next day but the next hour. As the next day could be hours away and that's a long slip up haha xxx
No need to avoid cheesecake - just investigate the low-calorie alternatives and include it in your calorie counted diet! There are recipes around using mashed bananas, eggs, cottage cheese or quark with vanilla or lemon to replace the cream and sugar in the top and the biscuit base can be replaced by some crushed All-bran or other cereal, leave out the butter and allow the moisture of the cheesey mixture to stick it together!
Explore the internet for ideas - bake a delicous low-calorie cheesecake, take a picture and share the recipe with us!
(Freeze any left-overs though - or might be too tempting to come back for 2nds).
Realistically I am the type that needs to have something for comfort sometimes. I have bought reduced fat digestives and I think they have improved since I first tried years ago then didn't buy as they were falling apart. I bought Tesco's low fat digestives and do you know I quite liked the texture, now a normal one seems to heavy.
Hi Lorna
Well you are already there by recognising that you need to lose weight.
Most of us have the same problem lots of temptation.
Try and treat yourself may be once a week some thing to look forward to.
Good luck
Hi Lorna1990 , I'm with Dumpling on this one. For years my go to supper treat was a digestive biscuit topped with a measured amount of low fat dairy, (Asda's quark would be today's choice but anything thick enough to stay put like 0% Greek yog) then finished with some fruit (berries or mandarin orange are particularly nice) or a tsp of jam. I could have that for less than 150kcal. Nowadays it's crunch I miss so I have traded in the digestive for a 6 pack of Sainsbury's multi grain melba toasts. I spread the dairy a little thinner and have more toppings. That way I satisfy my not very sweet tooth and my yearning for creamy with 6 little treats. If I am feeling particularly tempted I sometimes microwave one square of extra dark choc and dribble a few threads over the top. And then I might cut the toasts in half and put them on a pretty plate like petit four. Somehow having a whole plate of little pretty bites makes me feel better. I do savoury versions too. It always works in damping down the cravings.

Look up the 12 week plan, do the Monday morning weigh ins and if you stick with it, you're bound to lose weight. The first few days/ first week is the hardest, it will get easier as you get into good habits, honest.
I just don't buy any puddings that I will like. Only buy things that hubby likes so I don't feel tempted and he can still have his treats .However I do keep a tub of ice cream in freezer Carte Dor or something similar as 2 scoops is only 120 cals. You could have 1 digestive biscuit with 1 scoop of this then a few berries on top and be about 150 cals .
It's defo NOT easy. But you hv to reach that point where ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I finally hit it... been good ALL week.. salads. Green tea. No crisps and NO snacks. .. hard but BELIEVE ME it gets easier. .I keep telling myself I don't like those flavours anymore.. big lie.. but after one week I Actually believe it !!! Treated myself to Chinese takeaway but to b honest.. pleasures not there as taste buds changing. I GOTTA LOSE WEIGHT as cholesterol SO HIGH.... so had one small plate n no more. Even had a mouthful of an easter Egg, wasn't that great so binned it before I could binge.
Keep going.. if I'm doing it.. ANYONE CAN
Thanks for all the advice from everyone
