Feeling fed up and slightly desperate. I've tried so many things in the past: some successful, some not so much. Have been listening this morning to reports of the rising number of adults with diabetes and I'm feeling like, unless I do something, this is where I'm headed. I think it's time I gave it one last serious go to start living in a more healthy way and to try and put right some of the damage I've done.

Last chance....?
Hi Cavegirl666,
Welcome to the NHS Weight Loss community forum. I'd like to give you a link to our Welcome Newbie post:
healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
Please do have a read through and I hope you'll join in with some of the things going on in the forum. Many of us are following the NHS 12 week plan, and it is a really good structure and the NHS website is really helpful - so do have a look.
There's a weekly weigh-in on Mondays, which is very well attended and it's a supportive and friendly group.
Hope to see you around and about in the forum.
Lowcal
Hiya cavegirl 666! I know exactly where you are at. I am 51, overweight, have done every diet going and probably could write my own book. Like you I am desperate to make permanent changes but keep sabotaging all my good work by giving in to cravings which I know are bad but still do it. I have just signed up here after reading posts by so many others in the same situation. I am determined to do it this time. We can do it, many others have and we deserve the good health that comes with it and more importantly for me the ability to be in control of what I eat and the way I feel. Good luck
Have you talked with a doctor?
The 12 week plan is a good place to start and you might find this article useful.

The doctor's advice to cut out all processed foods and sugar had a really beneficial effect on health.
Good luck Cavegirl.
Sure you have come to the right place then. This forum is great for motivation and support. If you really want to do this I am sure you will this time. Its all about changing lifestyle and habits. Do have a look at the link that Lowcal has posted and maybe join the Monday weigh in. Its great to know you are not alone and others are out there feeling just like you. Best of luck.
I know what you mean by those news items showing random overweight people - they zoomed in on a belly that looked awfully like mine! It is best to act now, as you so rightly suggest!
I have been tracking my calories online since January and feel like I am getting there - lost nearly 1 1/2 stones and feeling so much better already. Welcome to this very supportive forum and good luck!
I was so afraid of diabetes too, and knew I was headed in that direction if I didn't do something. Last summer was awful, I felt so unwell, was in constant pain and very down about it all. I started the diet in September and feel so much better, I still have a way to go, but feel so much healthier now.
Good luck, you can do it and it isn't as bad as you think, the calorie allowance is much higher than the 1400 if you have a lot of weight to lose and you can eat well on that. Also, this forum is great for motivation - especially if you join in with the activities. Why not enjoy yourself while you are at it, eh?
