Hi everyone,

I would like to explain that the Fab 5'ers (Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, Moreless and myself, Lowcal) will ensure that anyone who contributes to this Monday group weigh-in thread will have a response from one or more of us at some point in the day. This is the Morning Session.

I'll kick off with my weigh-in for this week. Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 1.6 pounds and today I weigh 13 stone 1.8 pounds, so I've gained 0.2 pound this week. I had a small operation on Tuesday involving a general anaesthetic, so I wasn't able to do my usual levels of exercise this week, and couldn't get to the gym, so I'm quite pleased that I've not gained more weight - it's on occasions like this that I wish my scales weren't quite so precise infact! This week I'm hoping to get back to attending the gym, and now that I am back to my normal routine again, I hope to lose 1 pound this week.

Ruth_Canal_Runner has done our weekly stats for last Monday's thread, and they are excellent:

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 122.

Total overall weight lost: 137 pounds (62.2 kilos).

Total people who lost weight: 75 (154.2 pounds lost) (70 kilos).

Total people who gained weight: 13 (17.2 pounds gained) (7.8 kilos).

Total people who maintained their weight: 21.

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 8.

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 5.

N.B. This is the Morning Session. Once the Afternoon/Evening Session is posted you will see the link to it here:

**********************************************

12.00 midday Link to Afternoon/Evening post is here:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh....

*******************************************************

N.B. As of 12.00 midday, the morning post is now 'closed' - so please use the Afternoon/Evening Session post (see above for link).

In the meantime, please use this post for your Morning Weigh-ins for today (Monday 25th January 2016).

If you are joining this weigh-in group for the first time, then welcome. Just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals - setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful.

Wishing everyone a great week ahead.

Onwards and downwards!

Lowcal :-)

Hi Emma-and,

That is fantastic news to hear you've got out of the rut you were in, and that you've lost 3 pounds this week, many Congratulations! You were stuck on 12 stone 13 pounds for much of the month, but you've persevered and seen results on the scales at last. Really well done.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Big congrats on managing to keep your chin up and persevere and well done on a brilliant loss, you deserve it! :-D

Hi end of week three 12st9 lost 2 lb starring weight 13 st 3 so lost 8lb altogether very happy with that and this week being birthday week !!!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply togareth0073

Hi Gareth0073,

Brilliant to hear you've lost 8 pounds over the past 3 weeks, and especially that you're having your Birthday this week, and still achieved over half a stone over that time - we will divide your result by 3 if that's ok, so that we can put your 'weekly average' weight loss down in our weekly stats that Ruth will compile later. So that makes 2.67 pounds lost for this week. Brilliant result! Congratulations!!! Also, wishing you a great Birthday this week, and well done for getting well into the 12's.

Hope the op was totally successful Lowcal. Such a minor gain in such circumstances is nothing at all.

I am happy to report 4months maintaining at below my target weight. This week I lost 0.2kg (54.6)

Very happy to continue to prove that with the accountability I have here to my weekly weigh in, Yoyo ing is a thing of the past.

Booked to swim in the wild with dolphins on my upcoming holiday. Looking at other activities that require confidence in a swimsuit. Who would have thought. ....

Have a great week everyone.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to2bFabnfit

Hi 2bFabnfit,

Many thanks, I did put on quite a bit of weight earlier in the week, which I put down to the pain killers etc and inflammation - so glad it's come off again. I am feeling recovered now thanks, and hope to get back to the gym mid-week. I'm aware not to overdo things, as I've made that mistake before, and I hope to pace myself.

I am so happy to hear that you've maintained at below your target weight for 4 months now, that is fantastic!!! You've lost 0.2 kg this week, so you're 54.6 kilos. Congratulations! :-)

Yo-yoing is definitely a thing of the past for you - so far so good.

What an exciting adventure you'll have when you swim in the wild with Dolphins - that is really good. Something amazing to look forward to. Not long now...!

Wishing you another great week ahead.

ZestHealthy BMI in reply toShushannah

Hi Shushannah,

Well done for maintaining your weight this week, and it's great that you've lost 2cm from your waist - it shows how helpful having those body measurements can be. It shows improvements on those occasions when the scales stay the same. A maintain is always better than a gain, in my book, and so I Congratulate you.

Hope you enjoyed your week, and wishing you another great week ahead.

Great waistline Shushannah. I have to lose 20cms off my waist to reach that! Which seems unbelievable now but with the motivation from this site I am optimistic. That will be at least one maybe two dress sizes for me.

Embarrassed to say gained a 1lb rather than lost it 😔 So 13 st 1 lb

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toBerylbee3

Hi Berylbee3,

Please don't be embarrassed Beryl, sometimes a gain happens, and hopefully it will soon be off again, so try not to let it bother you too much. Maybe you're aware of why you might have gained this week, but equally it could be down to fluid retention, or maybe an extra salty meal, or hormonal - even down to bowel movements, there could be numerous reasons for a gain, so just keep on track, and hopefully that pound will shift and you'll see some losses on the scales very soon.

Hope you have a great week ahead.

A loss for me of a 1lb, after all my bloating dramas, glad I'm back on track, 10st 5 1/4lb, down from 10st 6 1/4lb, very happy, I like to be a little below my maintaining goal!

Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, that is really great! I'm really glad to hear you're feeling back on track, and that you're feeling very happy. Being a little below your maintaining goal must feel really good!

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Hi Bobs-Minion,

Congratulations on losing 1.4 pounds this week, that is excellent! Also that you've lost 5.2 pounds in total since you started on 4th January 2016. I know you were hoping to lose at least 2 pounds a week, but it is not an exact science, and I hope you'll celebrate the great loss that you've achieved as it is a good respectable loss. I think so! But I know it's what you personally think that matters to you, so I hope you will be able to also feel good about your achievement too.

You're planning to increase your exercise this week, so I hope that goes well and that you have an enjoyable week ahead.

I hope you're feeling 100% now Lowcal and ready to face what's bound to be a popular monday weigh-in :) That's a minimal gain considering what you've been through and I'm sure your goal of a 1lb, will be an easy peasy one :)

I've had a fantastic week and am delighted to report a loss of 4.75lbs!! Which means on my week 20 weigh-in, I've lost 3st 7.25lbs, or 49.25lbs, or 22.39kgs! Can you tell I'm excited? :D Who'd have thought that "dieting" could be so much fun?! :D

You must feel so good, right now x

Morning!

Well done lowcal for pretty much maintaining especially with an operation that must have been a little stressful?

Well done to everyone else too especially Emma-and, 3lbs is amazing

Last week I was 14 stone 10 and this week I am 14 stone 9.6 so only 0.4lbs off for me, I can hear the scales creaking again and not wanting to move.

Food wise I have been ok, I've included pics below of some of the things I had last week - I'm slowly learning how to prep (which might sound strange) but last year I was doing everything from scratch every evening and it was taking a long time

So now on the weekend I try to chop all my vegetables and put in bags and it's going so well - yesterday I made bulgur & salmon with sautéed veg (to be fancy) and I was just throwing all my chopped things in the pan - took only 5 min

Still struggling with exercise, I don't know how to change this - I wake up 5.30am to get ready for work and I am pretty much sitting all day until 5pm and it always leaves me mentally & emotionally drained, so after making dinner & then lunch for the next day - all I want to do is rest (even though technically I have done nothing physical all day to be tired)

Can't understand where people find the energy to go to 6 - 8pm fitness classes

I've managed to do a few of the 10min pop sugar videos though so hope I can just build up some level of fitness from those

Anyway food pics :-)

Hi Gracie,

I have just been admiring your food pictures, and I am really impressed. I love the 'prep' work you have done in terms of bagging up all the freshly chopped ingredients, and the meals you've prepared look excellent - really delicious. I hope you're enjoying the meals.

Congratulations for losing 0.4 pound this week. You spoke about the difficulty of finding the energy in a busy day to exercise, and the lack of opportunity for you to do much in your job, as you're sitting at your desk for a lot of the day, and you feel very tired when you do get home in the evenings. I think it's great that you've been able to do some of those videos, and I am sure you'll be able to build up some fitness from doing those, as they are good 10 minute sessions - and you can fit them in to the time you have available. Maybe you can try a longer work-out sometime to see how you go, you might find that the act of doing that will make you feel more energetic. Sometimes I really don't feel like doing an exercise session 'at all' but I know that I will often feel better after doing it, so if I can ensure I get over the initial reluctance, then things work out better than I think.

Thank you so much for your kind words about my operation. It was a bit stressful, and that's partly why I didn't mention it last Monday - I was quite glad to be doing the Monday weigh-in thread, as it meant I could divert my attention away from thinking about the forthcoming operation the next day. So that was helpful. :-)

I hope you have a really great week ahead, and thank so much for sharing those lovely photos, they are great. You're doing really well.

Lowcal :-)

speaking of restaurants, have you seen/tried the new M&S range? Apparently they have things like courgette 'noodles' with chargrilled chicken or Bolognese and spaghetti squash

not sure why people like spaghetti squash, I tried it once and found it was too sweet to trick my mind into thinking it's regular spaghetti

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply togracie1985

Hi Gracie,

Yes, I have seen and tried one of the products from the new M&S range, specifically the Butternut Squash noodles - here's a link to the recipe I used, which I made up myself:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I didn't use it as a substitute for carbs, as I always have some complex carbs as part of my meal - hence I put the meal on a bed of quinoa.

Have you tried any of those meals, or are you sticking to making your own meals completely from scratch? I have to say I think that's really good to cook from scratch as then you know exactly what you're putting in your sauces etc.

I've been hearing lots of good things about these courgette/squash noodles and pasta substitutes but have yet to try them. Several people were talking about these spiraliser machines which you can make your own basically I call it "fake pasta" from veggies. I think it sounds like a great idea for reducing carbs and getting more veg into one's diet, so I am quite sold on the theory of it all - just need to get round to trying these things out now! I think, if it's tolerable in taste I could quite happily get used to swapping pasta for "fake pasta" made from veg. Been ill so hadn't got round to trying out new stuff yet, but I will get there! Hey, I'm wondering, if it tastes sweeter than pasta maybe kids with a sweet tooth would love it - now there's an idea to spring on my fussy 12 year old! :-D

2bFabnfit profile image
2bFabnfit in reply toWeightWarrior

I really like courgetti. My hubby thought I was depriving him when I gave him spaghetti whilst making courgetti for myself. I don't have a fancy spiraliser, I just bought a julienne peeler from Lakeland. (A few quid ). Only takes a few minutes to prepare and barely any time to cook.

Well disappointing scale reading this morning :) stayed the same again!

Completed lots more steps and the gym three times. I feel a lot fitter and certainly have more get up and go. Then I think about it, I have had a few cheats, failed to take my packed lunch last week, so bought it - not always the best choices! and had a few vinos too. So I guess I get what I deserve.

Onwards and upwards - back to eggs for breakfast boiling as I type) and salad for lunch - need to quickly make this - cooked chicken breast last night to go in it.

Well done Lowcal for managing to loose something while you were out of action.

ZestHealthy BMI in reply toGill3000

Hi Gill3000,

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, it was a tiny gain for me, so better than I'd anticipated.

Congratulations to you for maintaining your weight this week, that is so much better than a gain in my book. I know you feel disappointed about it, but try not to let it affect you too much - you have been quite active this week, with all those gym sessions and steps - well done for achieving those! You're aware of the few occasions when maybe a few extras crept in - you mentioned a few vinos and the packed lunch you had to buy - those pre-packed lunches can be quite calorific - it's a minefield out there sometimes! So you've done well to maintain in those circumstances!

Keep an eye on your boiling eggs - hope you enjoy your breakfast, and that you have a great day and week ahead.

I have to admit to not eating many salads at this time of the year, because it's just too cold.

I'm fairly unadventurous saladwise as well. It's basically lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, celery, spring onion, radish, pepper, mushroom and vary what I eat with it, smoked mackerel, tuna, cheese and egg, ham, omelette/frittata, or as an accompaniment to moussaka, bolognese etc.

Sorry to be so boring :)

Oh dear, I gained weight this week. Last week I was 65.8kg and this morning I'm 66.1kg. I am sure its from two evenings out this weekend, even though I tried to be really careful during the day to compensate for the dinners, desert and wine.

And now its going to be really hard as I have a week away, for work, staying in a hotel , with endless meetings, little chance to exercise, hotel food and no scales... so i will miss next monday's weigh in next week...

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to2fatbyfar

Don't panic 2fatbyfar, all is not lost. That is a miniscule gain and to be honest, a trip to the loo could probably get shot of that ;)

Stays in hotels don't have to be disastrous. You can ask for your version of their menu, ie no added sauces, smaller portions, no desserts etc. You can choose to only drink water, instead of alcohol and there are always stairs to run up and down, if not a gym, or pool :)

Take a tape measure with you, to keep an eye on the inches :)

Good luck! :)

Just to add to what Moreless has said, we'll look forward to seeing you when you get back from your trip away, and hope it goes well. Hi Lowcal. You did well with such a small gain considering the week you've had. Hope the op did what it was supposed to and you're recovering well.

I'm pretty much back in the zone, moving downwards again from 53.9 last week to 52.6 kilos today. Very happy with that, especially as we had guests on Saturday and I had some wine, beer, 3 profiteroles and several choccie biccies. But mostly I'm eating healthily, and we did go for a long walk in the forest together on Saturday (about 5 hours) which mitigates all those naughty sugary calories.

Wishing you and everyone a fab week 😃

Hi 1912534summer,

Great to see you again, and glad you're back with us. Christmas can definitely be notorious for knocking us off our track, and it can be easy to take our eye off the ball, so you're not alone in that respect. I am still getting off the gains I made over Christmas, as I gained about half a stone in total over a couple of weeks.

It's good to hear you're now feeling back in the right frame of mind - and you have lost a lot of weight in total, and maintained that weight loss, so that is all credit to you, and I congratulate you for that. It is a brilliant achievement.

I know you've gained 2 pounds this week, but try to put that behind you, and move forwards from today, with your fresh mind-set, and you'll be on your way towards your new weight loss goals. Getting back to 11 stone 7 pounds as your first mini-goal is great, and you'll hopefully be closer to that this time next week.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Good morning.

Last week I weighed 11 09, this week 11 04 so a loss of 5lb.

Obviously delighted but most due to being poorly. I had lost 1lb through effort by Tuesday and maintained this til Thursday (that elusive 11 08!) then the lurgy took over.

I would like to say another 1lb was due to effort but cannot be sure.

I haven't been out of bed since Thursday night but still managed 157 active minutes before that. Other positives are:

A second week of no alcohol & 5 days (although some to do with being poorly!) 16 hour fasts.

Not setting any exercise or weight loss goals this week.

My main priority is to get well. After that, I would like to quit sugar, so today I pledge not to eat any sugar. Just for a day. Finally to clock up another 7 alcohol free days.

Good luck everyone.

I haven't read all the posts yet, 69 already when I started this one! So am getting back into bed to do just that. 😊

You are amazing! :)

A 5lb loss is staggering, even if some of it may be attributable to being poorly, a fact which I'm really sorry about.

You are systematically ticking things off your list. You've cracked the alcohol consumption, which is no mean feat and I have no doubt that you'll tackle the sugar consumption with the same steely determination and the same success :)

You have a total handle on your exercise requirements and are a valued "traveller".

AND you have achieved healthy BMI!!! WOOHOO, WTG YOU!!! :) :) :)

I quit sugar back in August. 3 days of banging headache and withdrawal. Stick with it and it will be worth it. My skin is clear. My digestion works better without bloating and gas. And weightloss is much easier. Also leaves more calories for nutrient rich foods. I now just have sugar on celebration days ( birthdays and the like ). I won't go back to sugar on a regular basis. I feel so much better without it. X

So, I've wavering around 11st, 10 for a good few months having managed to lose around 2 stone (not sure as depends where I start from and I didn't really 'start'). I put a few pounds over December Christmas and was quite worried. Had a holiday (sorry to mention it again!) and oddly managed to lose the Christmas weight and came back a fairly solid 11st 10 (last weekend). This week I was 11 stone 7.5 pounds. This is huge for me. I feel I've got a monkey off my back getting to that 11 and a half area.

Trying to get to 11 by... end February. I am on my own this week and have the opportunity to get to the gym. I can do healthy food (though tend to then eat too much of it) - I just don't do enough exercise.

TIME TO CHANGE! (more)

Thanks for reading. Good luck to all. It can be done.

End of week 3, really concentrated on portion size this week as I am eating and drinking only good things but not seeing results. Still 78kg, exactly the same as last week. I am resorting to calorie counting this week, which is going to send me in completely the wrong direction in terms of mental conviction. Bah. Walked 12 miles yesterday, swam twice durning the week.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toknitsandcodes

Hi Knitsandcodes,

So you are maintaining at 78kg, this week - I'm sure you've heard me say it to other people, but I really do think it's good to maintain, much better than a gain, but I can completely appreciate that you're feeling some frustration that you've not seen a loss on the scales, as you're eating and drinking good things, and you've concentrated on your portion sizes.

I know you're going to check things via calorie counting this week, and whilst that may feel quite challenging when you're feeling it might not help your personal mental conviction, it may be good in terms of ensuring that extra calories aren't slipping in unobserved by relying on other means to assess the portion sizes. It can be an eye-opener to see where calories are hiding, and often weighing things and calculating the calories can help for future portion estimations.

You did a long walk yesterday - 12 miles, I hope you enjoyed it, and also the swims during the week.

Have you taken your body measurements, as it could be that you're losing some inches or cms, rather than actual weight loss just yet. People sometimes give up when they find the scales get 'stuck' - but please do keep on track and don't let this put you off, as I think it's very likely that you will see the scales budge in the next week or two - just hold on in there, and see what happens.

Good luck, and hope you have a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

thanks, good idea. i'll measure as well this week. i'm convinced something must be changing as i really have cut out every bit of crap...

i've also signed up to foodfocus, recommended by you, which i'm finding rather exciting! have yet to fill anything in for today, but it sounds like it will help me identify the problem areas.

thanks again for your support, it's invaluable.

Hi Knitsandcodes,

Did I recommend foodfocus, I don't remember that - maybe it was another forum member? It doesn't matter, because the main thing is that you are finding it exciting, so that sounds great.

I might have recommended Myfitnesspal, as that is an app I find helpful. I'll have to look at Foodfocus now, to see what it's about.

Glad you're feeling positive and hope you have a really great week ahead.

I've looked at myfitnesspal now too - it seems to have similar functionality, but a more modern interface. I don't know if the food data is the same, that would clinch it for me. As the foodfocus one is uK based it might be better? Or does the other one have all the stuff you might eat?

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toknitsandcodes

Hi Knitsandcodes,

I just took a look at it, and it does ring a bell now I've seen it, but I think I only used it to get an idea the time it would take me to reach a goal - and I didn't actually pursue it regarding using it to log my food and drink intake (i.e. the Foodfocus site).

I have however used Myfitnesspal quite a lot over the past 3 years, and I find it does have all the products that I tend to eat and drink listed - there's rarely any that I can't find. So I think it is good.

It does really good graphs if you want to look at the break-down of macronutrients in your daily eating plan - I really like that.

Hope you get on with whichever one you decide to go with. You could always switch if you find it's not quite doing what you want it to do.

Sounds like you had a relaxing weekend, hope you enjoyed it.

Hi All, I've put on 0.2 of a kg so now 68.6. I blame the Burns night party! Oh and testing all the different crannachan cheesecake recipes during the week!!

Hi Ceriandblue,

I hope you enjoyed your Burn's Night Party - I am sure that would have contributed to your 0.2 kg gain, and especially those Crannachan Cheesecake recipes during the week on top - but hopefully you don't have many 'extras' hanging around anymore, and you can get back on track again, and that 0.2 kg will melt away fairly quickly, so you can claim the Onwards and Downwards path once more.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Hi Bethkyr,

I am so happy you'd like to join us for this Monday group weigh-in, you are very welcome, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of this group - and that you have a great weight loss journey alongside us.

Thanks for sharing your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do that. It's a brave step and hopefully you'll be seeing the weight come off over the next few weeks, to achieve your ideal weight. You've already lost 0.6 kg in your first week, so Congratulations for that, it's a great start!

Are you following the NHS 12 week plan? It's a good plan if you've not seen it, and worth a look. If you need the direct link to the 12 week downloadable pages, let me know, and I'll make sure I send you the link. Using an app like Myfitnesspal can be really helpful alongside it, as it helps to keep track of food and drink intake, and exercise etc.

Wishing you another great week ahead, and look forward to catching up with you at next Monday's weigh-in.

Hi Lowcal, thank you for your welcome. I am using the plan around my usual food, I do eat very healthy so its more to go back to portion control. Also sticking to one packet of crisps a week, and mixing turnip or butternnut squash with my fav potato mash or baked wedges. It also reminds me to take that walk. I will probably up my water a bit more. Bethkyr

ZestHealthy BMI in reply toBethkyr

Hi Bethkyr,

I also stick to 1 packet of crisps a week, good strategy! :-)

Great to hear you already eat healthy food - portion control is definitely key, it can be easy for portions to 'creep up' if we don't keep our eye on the situation.

Mixing turnip or butternut squash into your potato mash or baked wedges sounds delicious!

Enjoy your walk, and yes, good idea to keep adequately hydrated.

All the best for a great week ahead.

Morning Lowcal, morning All

Well it's back to reality for me this morning after a fabulous holiday in St Kitts, the 1st early morning start in over 4 weeks is a real shock to the system. The holiday was really quite active in that we played a lot of golf and did long walks along the beach with our feet in the Atlantic ocean. It really surprised me how much easier it is to be active in the sunshine rather than forcing myself to make the effort on dark nights after working all day.

My scales only weigh to the 0.5 lb so they wouldn't even recognise your miniscule gain Lowcal, I'm certain that you will turn that around into a loss next week. I hope that your minor op was ok and that all is well with you.

My last weigh in was 28th December and I weighed 10st 4 lb, this morning I weigh

10st 5 lb so I have gained 1 lb. I'm back to my pilates class tonight and hope to be a bit more active during the week. My personal goals this week are to start a dry week and see how many days I can achieve and I aim to lose at least 1.5 lb which will put me at my lowest weight since I started the plan. Back to basics and calorie counting this week to try to stay on track. Good luck everyone.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to3rd-Time-Here

Hi Mrsg3,

It's so great to have you back with us, and Welcome home from your recent fabulous holiday in St. Kitts - how exciting that you were there and I hope you had an absolutely brilliant time relaxing and enjoying yourself. You mentioned an active time, with lots of golf and long walks along the beach - that sounds lovely. Definitely an advantage to be exercising in the nice sunshine rather than the cold dark days you left behind in the UK.

I really appreciate your kind words on my miniscule gain - and the fact your scales wouldn't have even noticed that 0.2 amount - that makes me smile. Thank you. :-) I am feeling fine thanks, and appreciate your kind words.

Wow, all you've gained is 1 pound since 28th December, that is amazing. That is several weeks ago, so if I divided that amount by the number of weeks, I suspect it would disappear, so I'll leave that calculation to our stats mistress Ruth_Canal_Runner, and she'll decide what to put for your weekly stats.

Good luck with your goal to do a dry week - I'm doing a dry January, but I have to admit that I don't drink much alcohol normally, so it's not really proved to be a challenge for me, although I am sure it has made some difference, as there are calories in alcoholic drinks of course, and they do add up.

Good luck with your goal to lose 1.5 pounds this week, and let's hope that this time next week we'll be celebrating with you that you're at your lowest weight since starting the plan.

Have a great week.

Lowcal :-)

p.s. Watch out for the post holiday blues, and make sure they don't get you! You're sounding very positive, so hopefully you'll be fine.

hello, this is my first post. I am a very overweight 55 year old woman. I need to lose weight for health and self esteem. I hate being the size I am. I have never calorie counted before, so am learning as I go along and finding so far I am able to make that work for me. I will give my weight today, (I have lost 3lb since last Monday, but I only found this forum on Tuesday) My weight today is 20st 9lb. Numbers I hope never to see again. My intial interim target is 2 stone. I think breaking it down into chunks will work better for me, the total I wish, and need to lose is quite daunting. Wishing you and me a good week.

Hopefully today will be the heighest that weight will be, and from now on you'll be losing weight and gaining health and also great self-esteem, as I know those are your goals, and they are brilliant goals to have.

Congratulations on losing 3 pounds since last Monday, that is a really great start! You are very sensible to break down your weight loss goals into manageable chunks, and setting smaller mini-goals is great.

Here's to a great week ahead for you and for me, and for everyone in the forum. We can do it! Onwards and downwards. :-)

I'm going back to the gym this morning for the 1st time this year. At last I feel well enough for a competitive game of badminton. Hopefully getting more excercise will mean I lose weight a bit faster now and don't feel the need to eat more as a result. Dry January is still on course.

Keep doing what you're doing and enjoy the badminton :)

I've maintained my weight at 12 St 9 lbs. Given the week that was in it, it's not a bad result. My virus persisted and got worse so I did no exercise. Furthermore I ended up having 2 lunches out and 1 takeaway (Medical check ups are no fun but if you use the opportunity to meet someone for lunch it removes the sting). My son's birthday also required observation. Apparently the cake was not as good as the one I baked for his brother. So all in all I've not done too badly.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to

Crumbs Derrygeel! With all that going on, it's amazing that you've managed to maintain! Well done you! :)

I'm sure that if this week keeps to an even keel, those scales will show a loss next monday :)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi Derrygeel,

You've had a tough week, as I know you've been suffering from your virus, and that it persisted and got worse. Good that you met people for lunch to help you get over the Medical check ups - and well done for coping with your son's Birthday too. Oh dear, you had some criticism about your cake baking skills - I guess you had to take that one on the chin too!

I think you've definitely not done too badly at all in the above circumstances, so well done for maintaining. Maintaining is so much better than gaining, and you've had some challenging things to contend with this week.

I hope you're beginning to feel better and please keep looking after yourself and make sure you're much much better before you start pushing yourself exercise wise. I pushed myself too hard in February last year, after having chest infections and it took me much longer to recuperate than it should have done as a result, so I probably err on the side of caution, but I really hope you feel better soon and have a great week ahead.

Hi everyone, feeling fantastic this morning after hard week with scales not shifting most of week even though I didn't cheat, but..........this morning they went down to 11st.8 and three quarter pound, a loss of 3 and quarter pound since last Mon. It's so exciting that you've finally seen the shift on the scales you were waiting for - well done for riding out the wait and to acheiving such a fantastic result - 3.25 pounds lost since last Monday. That is terrific, and many Congratulations!!! :-)

You are a great example of how you can feel the despondency of being stuck for a few weeks, but you didn't let that despondency affect you too much, and you stuck with your resolve and kept on track. Especially good in view of the fact you had friends staying on the weekend, that would have been a challenging time in terms of potential diversions.

Glad your op went OK. My weight loss is a small one but still a loss- 0.75 lb. Good luck to everyone else. Out to lunch today so will probably put that loss back on but will get back on track tomorrow. Will try to do more exercise too. Have been hibernating in the colder weather!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toJaibie

Hi Jaibie,

Many thanks for your kind words.

Wow, you've done really well, Congratulations on losing 0.75 pound this week. Think of it as three-quarters of a pound of butter/lard on a plate, and you can see what great progress that is.

I hope you enjoy your lunch out today. I don't know what your approach to eating out is, but I often think of it as an excellent chance to see if there are any healthy options to choose from the menu - the more you can get used to making great choices when eating out the better, as it then can feel so much better to eat out - and less daunting. Of course, you could choose a more calorific option, it is completely your choice, as you are already thinking ahead to being 'back on track tomorrow' and doing more exercise too. But you might be able to choose something tasty and sustaining and healthy at your lunch today, which will complement your weight loss goals rather than go against them. So there are lots of options you could consider.

Most important, enjoy your day and have a great week ahead. You're doing really well.

Hi Asics,

Great to see you, and thanks for that lovely feedback - you're right, many people have broken through barriers today, it is very inspiring indeed, and makes me feel incredibly happy - as I love to see people's progress week by week. It's tough when people reach a 'sticking point' and it's important to try to encourage people to stick with things and try to reassure them that as long as they stay on track and don't let the 'stuck feeling' de-motivate them, then they will see progress in time. Sometimes it takes quite a bit of patience on their part, but the results do shine through in the end. People's successes highlight this very clearly.

I hope you're having a great week yourself, and thanks so much for giving such lovely feedback. It is much appreciated!

Hi Garfield_123,

Great to see you, and I think it's good that you are deciding to have a Fresh Start and that you're starting again with a positive mind-frame, and that you've decided not to give up. I think that is definitely better, and I really hope you have more success this time round. It could indeed be *the* time. You've already got a postitive to bank this year, in that you've managed to keep up your C25K, and that will have contributed to your fitness levels for January, which is brilliant!

Small steps are great - and you've chosen two really good areas to focus on this week - good luck with eating breakfast every day - I did a thread about breakfasts recently, and the people who contributed to it gave me some excellent ideas for future breakfasts - I might pop back in a minute with the link to that thread and edit it in here so you can see it, if you're interested.

Here's the thread link to the discussion about breakfasts:

Good luck also with reducing your sugar take. I have seen some adverts about the Change4Life having an app which can calculate the sugar content of foods and drinks, and so I wonder if that is something to try out - it might help with that process.

Wishing you a great week ahead, and here's to success for you with your weight loss goals. This time, you're hopefully going to enjoy some continued success and achieve your goals.

I really do believe our bodies have 'sticking' weights which they just like to be at... yours is going to have to find a different one, though :)

Hi I'm new here! I've started trying to loose weight 3 weeks ago.

This week was tough (ill, no exercise, work) but I stuck at last week's weight - 90kgs. I will take as a positive.

I really would like to lose about 20kgs. But as that is too much to think of, I would like to lose 1kg a week. (Sorry I have no idea about imperial measurements, hope that's ok)

Onwards for week 4!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toCatRuns

Catmay, feel free to use any measurements you like. Our wonderfully genius stats woman Ruth can calculate anything and everything :)

A maintain is always better than a gain and if you stick with it, I'm sure you'll see a loss next monday :)

It's always good to break your overall loss into small manageable pieces, so 1kg/week sounds like a great idea to start with :)

Wishing you a great week ahead, onwards and downwards :)

Hi Catmay,

A very warm welcome to you! It's great that you've decided to join us for this Monday group weigh-in, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of our group.

Sorry to hear you were ill this week, that is tough, but at least you maintained your weight at 90kg. I think that is a definite positive. I hope you felt ok posting your weight today, as I recognise that is a brave first step.

Please don't worry about imperial measurements, you can use whichever you feel comfortable with, as we try to put both down in our stats summary (provided by our lovely Stats whizz - Ruth_Canal_Runner) and she works with either imperial and/or metric so it's all fine!

You have set yourself the goal to lose 1 kg a week. That is quite an ambitious target, as that is 2.2 pounds per week, and I think it can be tough to lose over 2 pound per week, but not impossible of course. You are likely to see more weight gain in your first few weeks, and then it usually settles down, and as many people also experience, it can 'stick' for a while (sometimes a couple of weeks or so), so it's not an exact science, and there are many factors involved - water retention, hormones.

But setting yourself achievable weekly targets is very sensible, and you can always adjust your weekly target according to things you see coming up in that particular week. For example, on weeks when I know I have some meals out to contend with, I sometimes set myself a weekly goal to 'maintain' for that week, as it can be tough to lose weight in such weeks. You can be flexible about your weekly goals.

Anyway, I've written quite a bit in your reply, but just want to welcome you and wish you a very good week ahead.

very small gain! hope u are ok after ur op!

I forgot to weight in last week due to a chest infection and being stuck in bed feeling crap

so I think I had posted a weight gain on the 11th making me 13:10, I maintained last week anyway (due to being ill and eating everything in sight lol)

so 2lb loss this week as I am 13:8 so im back on track with the diet now and hope to reach my mini goal of 12:7 or 12st by the end of April

Hi Hydrogirl,

Yes thanks, I am feeling fine now, and I appreciate your kind words. :-)

I am sorry to hear that you had a chest infection last week, and I really hope that you are feeling better and that the infection has gone away. They are awful things and really make you feel horrible. I had a very resistant chest infection in February last year, so I'm hoping I don't get that again this year.

Well done for maintaining your weight last week, and Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week, that is really great! You're back on track with your plan now, and you're well on track for achieving your mini goal and end of April goal.

Wishing you another great week ahead, and hope you are feeling much healthier and also happy with your excellent results.

Good morning Lowcal, good morning everyone. Apologies I forgot to check in with you all last week, but I did record my weight, which was the same as the previous week at 16.9.0. This week I am 16.10.2, so a gain of just over a pound. I have totally lost my mojo, I find myself cramming stuff into my mouth and I don't know why I am doing it. Absolutely no exercise going on either. Wishing you all a good week.

Hi Jigglypuff,

We missed you last week, and glad you're here today! :-)

Well done for maintaining your weight last week, and I'm sorry to hear you've gained a pound this week, but that is understandable in the circumstances, as I know you've lost your mojo - and you've ended up eating extra things, and also not exercising.

Don't feel you have to answer these questions/reflections - but I wonder if it might be worth thinking about where and why your mojo has left you for a while, have you had any extra stresses or issues that have affected you emotionally, and is the automatic eating a reaction to something emotional perhaps? Or maybe it's the weather that has impacted negatively? It can make us feel like hibernating and maybe stocking up on nuts etc (if you know what I mean - although I do think nuts are healthy - except if eaten in excess when they are fattening). Hope I'm making you smile here Jiggly - because I'm just thinking of analogies here to help illustrate my point.

We need to help encourage your mojo to come back, so maybe think of ways that would make you feel better. If I'm having a day when I feel my mojo has gone, or I feel 'flat' - then something that helps me is to make a list of small actions that could make me feel better - and then I'd choose the smallest and least threatening thing on that list and would 'do it' - the action could be something small like washing my hair, or going out for a walk, but the smallest action can sometimes build a restored sense of optimism and with optimism comes hope. Before you know it, that mojo could come bouncing back, but it's small steps that can help to restore it brick by brick.

I hope my meanderings are making some sense, and maybe they will resonate with you, and maybe not, but I hope you do feel a renewed sense of mojo - very soon, as this is a tough time of year, and Spring will break through soon, but in the meantime, you need to nurture your own roots to help you to flourish and bloom.

You take care, and have a great week.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toDutchgirl

Hi Dutchgirl,

Congratulations for maintaining your weight this week, it is definitely better than a gain, so well done! :-)

I don't have a problem with weekend wine, as I don't drink much normally, and this January I have gone 'dry' so not having any at all.

Hopefully some of the other Monday weighers might respond to your question about that, and you could always post a separate question about it in the forum - as that would also attract some replies that way too, it's a definite challenge in terms of weekends being a different routine for many people, and then the social aspects of drinking on top of that. I'm sure you'd get quite a few responses. There are a few threads on that issue that have been posted in the past as well, so worth searching through past threads as well.

Maybe think about how you can tackle your weekend wine for next weekend, and see if it makes a difference.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

ZestHealthy BMI in reply tokm80

Hi Km80,

Thanks for your kind words about my op. I was actually really shocked the day after the op to have gained 3.6 pounds overnight, and on the afternoon of the operation, when I was able to eat, I did partake in a few 'treats' - as my husband went to buy a few naughties - I asked him to get me a chocolate eclair and some crisps for example - things I would normally have as a 'weekend treat' and not eat mid week at all. But I did feel like I needed some 'comfort' and I did succumb to those things as a result, plus some ice-cream (there, I've confessed all now!!!) but thankfully I decided that I must get back on track the following day, and so I didn't continue to comfort eat after that.

Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, that is a really good amount. I know you wanted to lose a bit more, but you've allowed yourself a few extras on the weekend, so that may have meant you didn't lose as much as you might have done without those extras. I hope you've enjoyed your week and that you have another great week ahead. You're making great progress.

Hi Lowcal

I hope you've fully recovered now and are feeling great. I had an unpleasant procedure as an outpatient on Thursday so to cheer me up my partner took me for a pub lunch afterwards, big glass of wine and a fishfinger sandwich (home made) and chunky chips!!! I've still managed to lose 2 1/2lbs this week (probably helped by the fact I was too scared to eat on Wed) So I'm really pleased with my loss so far, 6 1/4lbs in 3 weeks.

I'm off to Tenerife today for a week, I don't get back until very late next Monday night so won't be weighing in next week, which is probably just as well lol.

A 1lb loss for me at the end of my second week which I'm pleased about considering I had a meal out with some girlfriends on saturday night. Hi Devonmillie48,

Thanks so much for your kind words.

Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, especially as you had a meal out with some girlfriends on Saturday night. That is a great result! :-)

It is a pity that Harvester have removed the calories from their menus - that would be harder to make good choices, but if you get hold of a menu before a meal, it can give you some time to have a good look through and do a bit of research and pre-planning - that can be time really well spent. Many places do have their menus available online so you can do that. Hope you were able to make the choices you wanted to make on the night. You've got plenty of time to pre-plan your next meal, as you've got 6 to 8 weeks.

Hope you have another great week ahead.

Read some of the posts and you'll see for yourself. We are all different abilities, but that doesn't matter, we just encourage each other and have a bit of fun along the way. Read the Ricky Martin posts, they're quite amusing :)

As to willpower, when it comes to sugar, in any shape or form, I have none! The only option for me was to go cold turkey, so I've had none for 20 weeks. Fortunately, the less you eat, the less you want. I can't even drink fruit teas now, because they're too sickly! :)

Keep hold of that excitement - it's great for your motivation, and whatever motivates you is fine by me - as long as it doesn't hurt your or anyone else, that is. :-)

You're doing really well, wishing you another great week ahead.

Moorless I am so glad to hear we are competing as I was just eating last night for no valid reason and I am not liking my scales not a tiny drop! So I better behave myself and be a very good girl! :)

Morning everyone, my weight has gone up Im afraid, I now weigh 13.6.6 up by .6. Im sure it is because of my being unwell this last week, no exercise all week. On the mend now so Im hoping to have improvements.

Hi Marianne,

Good morning, I hope you're feeling a bit better now after being unwell earlier in the week, there are a few bugs going around currently, and the weather really doesn't help does it. You've only gained 0.6 pound so that's not much in the scale of things.

I'm glad to hear you're on the mend now, and I wish you the best for the week ahead, and hope you have a really good week.

Lowcal :-)

Hello everyone! I am glad I made it through week 1. When I started I was slightly overweight with 68 kilos. My goal is to lose the 10 kilos that I piled up throughout the years. My today weight is 65.7 so I lost 2.3kg and I'm so happy and motivated for week 2 :) Goodluck to all of you!

sorry i didn't weigh in last week i was in london and visiting friends so didnt manage to get on some scales.

Soooo two weeks ago I was 12st 12.2lb and today I was 12st 11.0lb so a loss of 1.2lb which isn't great but its not bad either.

I think any loss when you're away visiting friends is fantastic and should be worth double! :)

I can't wait to see what you manage now that you're back home! :)

So end of week one. Last Monday I weighed 11st and 13lbs this morning 11st 9lbs so a loss of 4lbs. Trying to keep up the exercise this week but in bed this morning with the dreaded fever and cold, at least I won't be eating too much.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply tosuzymac

That's a fantastic loss suzymac, but I'm so sorry you've got this dreaded bug that's doing the rounds.

Take your time to get well and give yourself plenty of TLC. Hopefully you'll feel much better, very soon :)

Hello - I have just joined the Weigh-In and hope it will help encourage me to keep going! Today I weigh 10 stone and I would like to weigh something nearer 9 stone 7 lbs or less, to be in the healthy weight range. I am 65 and hope that losing some weight will take the pressure off my knee joints. Lovely to read everyone's positive postings and glad to be here! :)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toNelliecat4

Hi Nelliecat4,

A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. You've just made it to our 'Morning Session' and it's great to see you.

I hope you felt ok sharing your starting weight. You're on the cusp of the 9's already, so hopefully this time next week we'll be celebrating with you that you'll make the transition into the 9's and be already closer to your goal.

I think losing weight will be good for your knee joints - and it's great that you're feeling positive and enthusiastic about the week ahead.

Have you seen the NHS 12 week plan? I can give you the link to the downloadable 12 week plan if you want, but you can easily find it by clicking on the icon in the top middle of the screen, entitled 'Weight Loss NHS' and then clicking through a few links to get to those pages. Using an app like Myfitnesspal is also helpful with regard to helping you track your food and drink and exercise etc - it's free and easy to use.

Do ask us if you have any questions about anything, as there's always someone in the forum who's probably had some experience to share, and it's better to seek help if you do have any queries - we're all in this together, and hopefully you'll gain great support from this weigh-in thread.

Look forward to catching up with you again next week.

Have a great week.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Ffudon,

Great to see you and well done for losing 1 pound this week, that is really good! :-)

I hope you cope ok with that brisk mile you're planning for today - I know you're all ready for that now, but please do pace yourself and hope you cope well. I hope your back pain is subsiding and that you're feeling better in yourself.

You're on the cusp of the 22's now, so hopefully you'll be there very soon. wishing you another great week ahead. You're making great progress, in the wake of difficult circumstances re: your back pain.

Enjoy your walk.

I managed 1.1 mile in 18:23, not sure how that rates, but I broke into a mild sweat and enjoyed it.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toFFUDON

Hi again Ffudon,

That is great! That rates extremely highly in my book, as I know how much effort that would have taken. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and that you're making good progress.

I'm glad to hear you feel supported and encouraged. This forum has also helped me a lot - it helps me keep on track, and without all you weight loss buddies alongside me, I don't think I'd have stayed the course or maintained my weight loss, and I definitely wouldn't still be working towards getting into the 12's - I feel inspired every day by the great community spirit here, and that's why I've stayed around for so long! :-)

So thank you for being part of it, and we can hopefully keep each and every person who contributes to this Monday group weigh-in thread moving onwards and downwards, as long as they want to be part of that journey!

Lowcal :-)

Hi Fabulous 5! Just for the ease of statistics. Had this morning 91.7kg after overindulging on spagetti last Thursday. My comment is also written on the afternoon/evening session. Keep your stamina ;-) thank you for working so committedly

Weighed on Sunday morning as I was away from home yesterday. Stayed the same at 90.9kg. Pleased with that as I had been away with work for three days and put on weight. Away with work again this week but it has been shortened to one day instead of two. My husband is having his hip operation today. I am hoping that with balancing work and going to see him in hospital as long as I eat sensibly that I will loose again on Monday with all the running around.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tosmall-steps

Hi Small-steps,

Great to see you. Hope you had a good trip away, and it's great that you've maintained your weight in that circumstance, it can be so easy to gain when away with work. So well done! At least you've only got one day away with your work this week, instead of two.

I hope your husband's hip operation goes well and hope you manage to cope with all the rushing around between your work and visiting him in the hospital - your plan to eat sensibly is a good one, and all being well you may see a loss on the scales on Monday - wishing you a great week.

Hi, I would like to join your Monday morning weigh in's please. I'm 35 and currently weigh 12 stone 5. My weight has been creeping up and up and I've put on 1 stone in the past 6 months. I want to get to 11 stone and then re-assess. I just feel out of control and I know at least part of it is my body changing as I get older. I could eat this amount when I was young and be skinny, now I permanently look 6 months pregnant :-(

Hi Rose,

A very warm welcome to you, and I'm so glad you've decided to join us for the Monday group weigh-in. You're very welcome, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of this thread - it's a friendly and supportive group.

You've shared your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so, it's a big step and a brave step and hopefully that will be your highest weight going forward.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan - which you can access via the icon in the top middle of the screen, entitled 'Weight Loss NHS' and maybe look also at Myfitnesspal, as that is a really good tool to help you track your food and drink intake - and makes a good partner to the NHS plan.

Wishing you a great first week, and hope to see you in next Monday's weigh-in.

Have a great week.

Lowcal :-)
