Hi everyone,

This is the 'Afternoon session' of the Monday group weigh-in, so please post in this thread if you're weighing in with us this afternoon and/or this evening!

The Morning Session has gone really well, and if you want to read how it went, then take a look at it here - you can support the morning weighers with any comments you want to make, or just have a read through:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh....

In the meantime, to the Afternoon/Evening people, hope you enjoy your weigh-in. One of the Fab 5'ers (Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, Moreless, and myself, Lowcal) will ensure we respond to you. But please be patient, as we do have other commitments. :-)

By the end of the day, everyone will have received a response from one or more of us. Moreless and I will also be ensuring we cover both threads (morning and afternoon/evening to ensure that everyone receives a reply), but if you're weighing in for the AFTERNOON/EVENING, then this is the right place.

I'll just repeat the stats (thanks to Ruth_Canal_Runner for compiling these):

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 136.

Total overall weight lost: 191.1 pounds (86.7 kilos).

Total people who lost weight: 84 (218.2 pounds lost) (99 kilos).

Total people who gained weight: 19 (27.1 pounds gained) (12.3 kilos).

Total people who maintained their weigh: 11.

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 16.

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 6.

We've lost the equivalent total weight, as a group, to a Large Mountain Lion or an Addax Antelope. Wow!

Personally I lost 0.6 pounds this week, which means my current weight is 13 stone 1.6 pounds.

How did you do?

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Well done everyone on the morning thread, whether you lost, maintained or gained, you are still being accountable and that is what matters. Keep up the good work!

I lost 1.6lbs this week and that brings my weight to just under 100kgs, yay! I was 121Kgs at a GP appointment at the end of August, so I have lost over 21Kgs since then.

(I am bilingual when it comes to weights and measures - it gives me more little goals along the way)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toLessToLose

How clever of you to be bilingual with weights and measures, I have to admit that kilos are still a foreign language to me and I just can't "visualise" them :o

I'm delighted that you've gone under 100Kgs, cos that sounds impressive, even to me :)

Using my calculator, I can work out that you've lost just a bit more than me, so you must feel as good as I do, if not better :D

Hope you have another great week :)

Thanks Moreless, we are neck and neck, you really are my twin!

I feel fantastic, I still have joint pain, but it is getting much better since losing the weight. I am hoping that by Easter, I will be able to try running without damaging anything (pavements, treadmills etc), lol.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toLessToLose

I haven't braved running yet, walking and cycling are my limit, but I would like to try it in the future. However, I need to sort out the arthritis in my toes first! :)

Carolee13 profile image
Carolee13 in reply tomoreless

I like using both sets of weights too. My scales are digital so I swapped to weighing myself in kilos because decimal points of a stone don't mean anything to me, but like to compare with good old stones and pounds every now and again - but as I'm not fully bilingual have to use an online converter or calculator like MoreLess.

Losing 21kg overall is amazing LotToLose, well done!

Thanks Carolee, I use an online converter too, it is much easier!

Brilliant stuff, very well done! Kgs still baffle me, I have to use a converter if I want to know what it means in pounds!

Hi all. Lowcal, congratulations on losing again this week :) I have stayed the same at 17st9&1/4lbs, this is not too bad though as have had a bad week diet wise - I think that I'm struggling a bit with doing extra exercise and being hungrier.. I'm going to finetune suitable snacks this week and hopefully find a balance!

Hope everyone has a happy healthy week :)

LessToLose profile image
LessToLose4lbsRestart April 2024 in reply toFitforit75

Kate, I found I needed to consume a higher calorie allowance at the beginning because at my heavier weight, my calorie needs were more than the average person. Oddly, increasing my calorie consumption to 1600-1800 meant that my weight loss became a steady 2.5lbs a week and I was able to exercise more and not feel starving hungry.

I have lost over 3 stone by doing that and now I have reduced my allowance to not over 1600.

Good luck for a great week!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toFitforit75

Maybe you need to work out whether you need to eat just after exercising, with a banana to eat before, or vice versa.

Apparently women are supposed to use calories more efficiently if they exercise after eating, but that's a generalisation and we're all different :)

Considering you've struggled to stay on plan this week, Kate, maintaining is a great result :)

Let's hope that a little experimenting will help to sort out the exercise hunger :)

AvatheGardener profile image
AvatheGardener7lbs in reply toFitforit75

Hi Kate, have you thought that perhaps you have added some weight in muscle through doing exercise? Muscle weighs more than fat... and it uses up more calories than fat as well- so a 'maintain' with increased exercise may actually reflect that! (Wish I was that positive for myself!!!)

Fitforit75 profile image

It is a nice thought.. but I think dry roasted peanuts and toblerone are more likely :-O I blame my husband for unveiling his leftover xmas stash!!! ;)

Hi Lowcal, well done on your loss this week, I have stayed the same 13.1lb which I am not dissapointed with as 3lb loss last week and have not had a lot of excercise this week with weather. Will hopefully get out to do more walking this week, it does make a difference.

Good Luck everyone for a good week.

Hi Slimjan,

Thank you! Well done for maintaining your weight this week, and the fact you had the 3 pound loss last week means you've maintained that excellent result. Really good! :-)

Yes, the weather does try to scupper our exercise plans, doesn't it. I hope you're able to get out to do more walking this week, as per your plan. It is great exercise.

Didn't post a weigh in last week as I was wrecked with a week long migraine, not nice, but weigh in today is 12st so since starting 3 weeks ago have lost 4 lbs, a nice steady weight loss. I continue to have cola free days, fewer lattes, and have embarked on gentle walks. So far so good!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toMarian4

Good for you Marian, that's all sounding very positive :)

All that is except the migraine! That sounds absolutely horrible! Poor you! Thank goodness you're ok now :)

Carolee13 profile image
Carolee13 in reply toMarian4

I can't imagine what a week-long migraine feels like, sounds horrendous. Congratulations on your steady weight loss, good work!

I always loved lattes but have had to cut them out because they're so high in calories. If I do go to a coffee shop and want something milky I'll now opt for a cappuccino which is less calorific, having less milk content in it.

Interestingly my Sunday School class yesterday were scathing about colas because of the high sugar content, especially the youngest one. Several of the class said they'd rather have water than Coke! Start 'em young, and hopefully they won't get addicted to the sugary stuff :-)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toMarian4

Hi Marian4,

Hope you are feeling better after your migraine, that sounds awful.

I'm just calculating your average weekly loss, to help Ruth out with the stats - I calculate that losing 4 pounds in 3 weeks makes an average weekly loss of 1.33 pounds. I hope you're happy with that, it's a really good weekly progress. Well done! :-)

Lowcal :-)

can you calculate mine 2nd Jan I was 14stone 3lb.. yesterday 13stone 10lb

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tolisao93

Hi Lisao03,

Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in. Basically you've lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks and 4 days. I have therefore divided this by 2, and it makes an average of 3.5 pounds lost in 1 week 3 days.

As you're a new member of our group, we would take your starting weight, and count you as a New Member for our stats. I don't think I've seen your name is our group before, so hope this is correct.

I'd recommend looking at the NHS 12 week plan as a good framework - with lots of advice and information and maybe using an app like Myfitnesspal alongside that to help you keep track of your food and drink intake. I notice you also mentioned that you drink a lot of Pepsi, but that you're "struggling to not touch" it.

Have you found a drink that you can replace it with - maybe fizzy water, if you don't want to cut out the 'fizz' aspect yet. Sometimes it can be easier to reduce the amount of something rather than completely cut it out, but see what works best for you.

The amount of weight you'll lose in the forthcoming weeks will probably be between 1 and 2 pounds, as people often lose a bit more in their first couple of weeks.

Wishing you a good week ahead. Hope to see you in next week's weigh-in, which will be on Monday 25th January 2016. There will be a 'Morning' and 'Afternoon/Evening Session' - so make sure you look out for the thread which is at the time of day you prefer.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Good afternoon everyone,

I have been absent from this group for quite some time - had a look back through and the last time I weighed in was 26th October at 11 stones 6.5 pounds. Between then and now I managed to lose quite a substantial amount of weight on a 'plan' and got down to 10 stones 4 pounds but over Christmas and New Year regained 8 pounds putting me at 10 stones 12 pounds which I have been unable to shed! Not sure what this will do to the stats as lost 16.5 pounds and regained 8 pounds - sorry!!!

I am aiming for a 2 pound loss this week as really don't want to undo all my hard work. Reading all the posts is very motivating and I am sure this will spur me on.

Best wishes to you all,

Jan x

moreless profile image

Welcome back Jan :)

You've been on a bit of a rollercoaster ride since you last weighed in :)

I calculate that you've lost 8.5lbs in 12 weeks, which will give you an average weight loss of 0.71lbs/week. If I'm wrong, Ruth will soon sort it out :)

I'd be very interested to learn more about your "plan", because it was obviously working up til Christmas :)

Glad that the posts have motivated and spurred you into action and look forward to seeing how you've got on at next week's weigh-in :)

Thanks for welcome back moreless! Once you miss a couple of weeks it's hard to come back sometimes so a lovely welcome is always appreciated!

No great mystery to my weight loss - it was a clean eating plan with lots of protein, fresh fruit and veggies. Everything was made from scratch with the philosophy that if you couldn't pronounce it you probably shouldn't eat it! ;)

Will report back next week hopefully with a good loss.

Best wishes x

Great stats! I had a quick look at the morning replies and everyone's doing so well, whether or not they had the good fortune to show a loss to reward their efforts.

I'm back below 53kg at 53.9, well within my maintenance zone, so happy with that.

I forgot to take my own advice last week and rebook my Monday zumba class the very next morning and it fillled up really quickly so I'll have to miss it, but still looking forward to Pilates tonight and another zumba class on Thursday. I think I got my exercise on Saturday painting a ceiling which involved climbing up and down the steps regularly, so was happy to slob in front of the telly on Sunday afternoon watching back-to-back episodes of dramas. Lovely!

Hope everyone has a great week, keep up the good work. :-)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toCarolee13

What a pest about your zumba class Carolee, thanks goodness you still have your other classes. Will you have to wait long before being able to book it again?

Well done for continuing to maintain your weight :) I monitor all maintainers very closely and am in complete awe of you all. My hope is that by the time I reach that stage of my journey, I shall have learned everything I need to know from you, in order to maintain myself.

Thanks for the inspiration :)

Carolee13 profile image
Carolee13 in reply tomoreless

Thanks, Moreless. I can book again tomorrow, will have to set a reminder!

Blush! I'm not awesome. I only had a stone to lose and did it on the 12-week plan with lots of great tips from the likes of Lowcal and Ruth_canalrunner, and everyone else. Luckily I started in the summer holidays when it was easy to cut down and to take on new active habits. I'm sure you'll soon be in maintaining mode too. I love how we can all get support and ideas from each other on this site.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toCarolee13

Oh that's good, I was thinking you'd have to wait 3 months or something :)

It's not the losing of the weight, although that's difficult enough, it's keeping it off after. I've never managed that in all my years of "dieting" and it'll be about another year before I reach that stage, because I still have 6st to lose :)

Carolee13 profile image
Carolee13 in reply tomoreless

I'm sure you'll manage it, since the idea of the 12-week plan is to cultivate healthier habits that will should stay with you and help you resit the demon on your shoulder tempting you to go back to your old ways. People on the site often start again with the 12-week plan after completing it, to keep them on track.

I'm sorry you've had such a hard time with yo-yo dieting. I imagine like so many of us your eating is all mixed up with emotional issues and self-esteem.

I'm one of the lucky ones; though my weight started creeping up slowly in my forties, it didn't actually get too bad and it wasn't until last year that I started getting concerned about where it might lead if I didn't stop and take stock of my habits (chocolate, wine, takeaways, thinking I could eat as much as my husband, no physical activity). My 2 brothers-in-law had died before their time, one through complications from diabetes and the other a heart attack.

My friend started Slimming World and Zumba last summer and she like you had a lot to lose, and she is my inspiration. She's actually lost 4 stone so far and is doing brilliantly - and so will you!

I'm already on a cocktail of meds from the GP. I went back on Friday and he did a physical examination, I just need to manage the pain, and I will. I know what needs to be done, and I'll get there. Hydro pool booked for Wednesday afternoon, that usually helps me relax, which is half the battle.

Would regular swimming have a similar effect?

FFUDON profile image

The hydro pool is at a constant 35 degrees, it's really quite warm compared to a swimming a pool, and I believe there is a solution in the water that assists with floatation. It's very different to swimming, but swimming is good. I usually go to the pool twice a week, but haven't made it for nearly 2 weeks now. Who knows, I could be there this week.

Congrats on that FFudon - 4lbs is very respectable - you must have made some significant changes to your food to compensate for not being able to exercise - maybe focusing on diet is the best plan for now, going forward? Well done on your weight loss. I didn't post last week. I had the lurgy plus both ponies were ill. I do get very down with sickly animals, and if I'm sick too, I'm rock bottom!! In 2 weeks, I've lost 3 pounds. The three of us are now improving but I have to be honest I'm not caring about exercise or eating at the moment. I have no idea how people who are 'properly' ill cope, it must be truly dreadful. I have a cough and cold and am so sorry for myself! So my plan this week is to get to next Monday healthy - I have my probiotic yogurt and I'm not afraid to use it! Been watching much tv this week and am interested in that time restricted feeding idea of one of those lovely twin doctors!! That would limit my naughty evening snacking and wine moments!!! I can see that being a winner!

Oh poor you and poor, poorly ponies (try saying that after a few!), Maxine :(

Thank goodness that all 3 of you are on the mend now :)

You managed a great weight loss too, was that just because you were off your food?

Not snacking in the evenings has certainly been a winner for me. I have a rule, nothing after 8pm :) Try it yourself, you've got nothing to lose except pounds ;)

Yes just off my food. Didn't bother with food, just a bar of chocolate every so often! no wonder I'm not better yet - that's hardly healthy. Week 2 completed and after a huge loss (5lbs 3/4) last week I wasn't that sure what was going to happen this week but I'm excited to say I have lost another 2lbs! 😀

Your right, I think I'm worried because I was doing really well until the end of last week and then Sunday was awful! I was hungry all day and it felt like I could only think about food. 😕. I have been ok since then but the difficult days are a bit scary if I'm honest. I need to be more positive and take your advice about the overall picture.

How is your Weight loss journey going?

I still have a lot to lose, but lost 2 stone 4 since the beginning of September...had a couple of hiccups along the way, Christmas being the biggest one, but the overall picture is definitely the one to focus on! Chin up, we'll get there, just keep going! :-)

Hi all, this is my first weigh-in. Just started my plan today so I am starting at 12st 2lbs....my goal is to get down to 10st. I've been half trying to shed the excess weight for years with no luck so I felt a more dedicated & organised approach was necessary with the healthy eating and exercise. I have an iffy lower back most of the time so the weight loss will help with that too. Until I get my core muscles stronger, I am slightly restricted exercise wise due to my lower back but there is still plenty I can do.

I wont be doing any aerobic exercise today but I will do some weights/stretches.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tojaffa89

Hi Jaffa89,

Great that you joined us - and I'd like to wish you a Very warm welcome to the Monday group weigh-in. You've shared your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so. You're close to the 11's already, so hopefully you'll be seeing them very soon!!!

I think you're right that a dedicated and organised approach should hopefully give you more success than previous attempts to lose weight, without such a structure.

Good that you are aware of your physical limitations with regard to protecting your lower back, and that you're going to pace yourself regarding any exercise - that's very sensible and important. But like you say, there is still plenty you can do, and I hope you enjoy the weights and stretches.

The NHS 12 week plan is a good structure - I'm sure we mentioned that when we spoke yesterday - but if you've not yet seen it, it's definitely worth a look.

Wishing you a great first week, and look forward to catching up with you at next Monday's weigh-in, and hope to see you around and about in the forum inbetween.

Have a great week.

Hello Everyone,

Iam new to this, so hope I am getting this right...

Last Monday I was 112kg and now I am 110kg so thats a 2kg loss, or in other words a 4lbs lost. I have a long way to go, but its a start. I am using My Fitness Pal to track everything, so here is the start ( I have previously lost 4 stone, but this came to stop in August time when I sprained my ankle, and then I got puppy so got lost for a while)

:)

Hi Nichole85,

A very warm welcome to you! It's great that you've decided to join us for this Monday group weigh-in. I hope you'll enjoy being part of our group.

Great to hear you've lost 2kg (that equates to 4.4 pounds loss), really good!!! It's a fantastic start! Congratulations!!! :-)

Great that you're using Myfitnesspal to help you track - I also use it, and find it easy and really helpful. I had stopped using it for a while, but recently re-visited it, and am pleased I did.

Sorry to hear you sprained your ankle back in August - you had been doing so well to have lost 4 stones at that time. Really brilliant!

Hi everyone,

Just to say a big thank you to all the Afternoon/Evening weighers - it's been such an inspiring thread, and similarly I love the Morning Session too - so many great results.

I am just letting you know that I'm stopping my 'shift' now, and leaving the Afternoon/Evening thread in the very capable hands of the rest of the Fab 5'ers team, many of whom are around and about just now.

So please keep weighing in, if you fancy a weigh-in with the Monday group - and try to use this Afternoon/Evening thread to do that. Many thanks!

Just to reassure you that the Fab 5'ers will be checking both threads to make sure we don't miss anyone, and also will be around for the few very late weighers who may pop by tomorrow and many the next day or so.

I won't be online myself till later in the week, as I have some stuff to do tomorrow and the next day which needs my attention, and I can't therefore be here as a result of that, but I am happy that the thread has gone so well and I am happy it's in excellent hands with the Fab 5'ers team - they'll look after you, so keep posting.

Wishing everyone a great week.

Hi folks, nearly forgot to post! I stayed exactly the same this week. I think it might be due to a slight over-serving of pork on Wednesday. Well, a bit more than slight, to be perfectly honest. Father in law cooked, it was a big piece and very tasty, and I had a couple of extra slices, and they weren't thin slices either! That plus, ahem, "some" crackling. The balance is quite delicate for me, and obviously what I over-ate was quite heavy in calories. Anyway, at least I didn't go up, it's just a shame I didn't resist the extra, I might have seen even half a pound loss. Right, on we go to next week then! I'm off to rest the leg, congrats/commiserations to you all, will try to remember to read up tomorrow and see how everyone got on xx :-)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toWeightWarrior

I wondered where you'd got to WW, I thought maybe you'd posted late on the morning thread, because I'm locked out of there now.

A maintain is better than a gain, but what a bummer that a little bit of pork and some crackling could mean the difference between losing weight and not! :(

How is your leg? Has it improved enough to get back on your pedaller?

Hi, I don't know where the time is going at the minute! I've given it a go today, literally JUST done it and I notice it's 12.30am!!! Will try to fit it in a bit earlier in the day tomorrow, back permitting. Just got a load more salad and veggies delivered today, planning to make stew for tea, and a batch of veggie soup to use through the week because we've managed to pick up a germ from our dear son now - he brought it home from school! He said school's full of them, oh joy...happy January! Crossing fingers that I can do a bit of pedalling and that coupled with lots of veggies will equal a loss of some kind on Monday. Father in law has gone on holiday so no pork this week - things are looking up lol!

I think a complete change from low fat with too many carbs to low carb high fat is working well on the scales and the mood but not so well in the bathroom!!!

Must eat more veggies, might even try a prune or two.

Hi everyone - I hope I'm on the right thread :D Learning a lot about diabetes and weight loss, and learning a lot about my my body at the same time! Anyway - this week I'm 12st 1 lb which means I've lost a pound this week. Yay! I'm trying to cut down on the carbs as I noticed when I ate a jacket potato (ahem, large) I went to the loo six times in the afternoon, so that means I must have been trying to get rid of the sugar, so that means the potato was too big. Very interesting.... at least I'm assuming that? I've also walked a lot more, yesterday I must have walked all in all about 5 miles. Left the car at home (in fact forgot where I parked it). As the day was cold but lovely, I was invigorated by the end of it. My brain felt more alive! Walking is the way to go if we are physically able to :D Enough of my ramblings. I know it's Wednesday and this is supposed to be Monday - sorry I'm late. :D

Well done on the pound loss- and the thoughts about your diabetes management. I am sure that thinking over time- changes us for the better and encourages us to be healthier. I was only talking to a friend the other day about Xmas treats- and I was the great scoffer of chocolates and could not believe anyone who could eat one chocolate and put the box away. Improbably- I am now that person.....still way to go yet for weight I want to be- I am 2 pounds behind you- with being in 11s on my mind.

Great on the exercise front- I am a big advocate of getting out there- good for the mind and spirit.

Good luck for next week:-)

Good Evening everyone. Finding everything a real effort at the moment. I cannot seem to string two good days together. My motivation level is really low & my eating habits are terrible fuelled by the fact that I keep buying chocolate, biscuits cake etc. I'm buying this stuff to cheer myself up & for a few minutes it does, then I feel even worse, full of guilt. I cannot remember the last time I felt really hungry, I seem to have lost the ability to recognise when I am hungry. I'm 62 in a week's time & I'm really concerned about the effect my heating habits are going to have on my long term health, but I still can't seem get it together. This all sounds very wimpy & I feel that I should be able to just "pull myself together" but I'm finding it difficult. Anyway my weigh in this morning revealed that I had put on 2 lbs, not surprised, my weight is 15stone 10 lbs. The other interesting thing is when I'm out walking Jarvis my staffie, I hardly give food a second thought but as soon as I'm back in the house the cravings start, I guess its something to do with keeping busy. Sorry this is such a negative post but others might have some ideas to help me out. Thanks for reading x

Another maintain for me so still at 9st 7lbs. I am going to try dropping my calories by 200 cals to see if I can get my momentum back as I appear to be stuck on this number!!!

Hi Seuzan,

You've posted in a thread from January! If you could transfer your weigh in over, that would be great!

Thanks,

Rob :)

Hi all, sorry for the delay I was poorly then busy with uni work and v little sleep before heading off to visit family for Christmas. Thought I'd pop on quickly and update my weight... lost 3lb last week! My 5 yr old kindly shared his sickness bug with us though so not quite how I'd wanted to lose it... Wouldn't recommend ... lol

12st 13lbs

Have a great Christmas! 😀🎄🍾
