I’ll kick off with my weigh-in results: Last Monday I was 13 stone 0.8 pounds, and today I weigh: 13 stone 1.8 pounds, so I've gained 1 pound this week. This is the second week that I've gained some weight, but I hope to reverse that trend this coming week. I am a bit disappointed to have gained, but I know that if I keep focused and stick with the plan that I should see some results next week, so that is what I will do! Onwards and downwards!!!
Ruth_Canal_Runner (Fab 5’er) has done the weekly stats this week, and they make great reading:
Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 127.
Total overall weight lost: 120.3 pounds (54.6 kilos).
Total people who lost weight: 76 (165.4 pounds lost) (75 kilos).
Total people who gained weight: 23 (45.1 pounds gained) (20.4 kilos).
Total people who maintained their weight: 13.
Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 13.
Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 2.
I should point out that last week, all the Fab 5’ers (Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, Moreless and myself, Lowcal) all gained weight – gains are normal sometimes, and it just shows that it can happen to any of us at some point. Please don’t ever be put off to report a gain, as it can be a real learning curve and can really help to get back on track to share every result and gain some support. Congratulations to everyone who posted last week, and if you're reading this and wondering whether to join us, then please do - everyone is welcome!
Note for Newbies:
If you are joining this weigh-in group thread for the first time today, then welcome. Just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals – setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful. You could also make a note of your body measurements – sometimes the scales stick at a particular weight, but there can be body measurement changes which are very motivating. It’s not all about the scales afterall – it’s how you feel in yourself.
You can always refer to previous weigh-in threads if you want to see what other people typically post (just click on my profile, Lowcal, and you’ll be able to see a list of all previous posts which are all clearly dated).
Also, if you’ve not already seen it, then take a moment to read the ‘Welcome Newbie’ pack which is a Pinned post (situated on right hand side of homepage) which has been collated by Fab 5’er Moreless.
N.B. The Afternoon/Evening Session has been posted, and a link to that thread is here:
Good morning everyone. I have maintained this week. Bit disappointed as I was hoping to lose the 1lb I gained last week but hey ho. Need to up my excercise level I think.
I feel that the good thing about these posts is that people are as open about gains as they are losses and although there is a feeling of disappointment, the support from others is tremendous so it does not feel like a failure.
Anyway, good luck everyone. As usual, I will enjoy reading everyone's posts on my way to work.
Good morning! Congratulations on maintaining your weight this week, in our book a maintain is always better than a gain, so that's a good result!
I agree, that sharing those times when we gain (which thankfully you didn't do this week) is a supportive thing rather than destructive, and there is always something to learn from such an experience.
A maintain is always better than a gain Alison, so well done you!
I too love the open, honest reporting on the forum and as you say, there's never any judgement, or criticism - how could we, when we've all been in the same boat?!
Failure is a word that's not in our vocabulary, but we are all losers!
Lowcal, I'm so disappointed for you, sometimes those scales just don't deserve house space! Not to worry, I'm sure this week will see a reversal to that upward trend and, as you say, onwards and downwards!
I'm delighted to report that my upward trend has been halted, but I'm feeling a bit cautious, as I seem to have wildly fluctuating weights every day and am a bit apprehensive that following this week's apparent loss of 4.625lbs, I shall have a massive gain again! Only time will tell
Good morning! Thanks for your kind words, which are much appreciated. Yes, here's to our motto of 'Onwards and downwards' - I know it will be a better week ahead!
I am thrilled to hear you've lost 4.625 pounds this week, and Congratulations on achieving that great result.
I hope you have a great week, and that next week's weigh-in will be kind to you, and that you'll not see a massive gain again - as hopefully your weight will settle down into a groove and you'll enjoy further onwards and downward trends, as per your previous trends, which have been fantastic! I only recently read your weight loss story thread, and I thought it was extremely inspiring. You have made such great progress, and you're doing so well.
Thanks Lowcal, settling into a nice comfortable groove would suit me just fine - all this upping and downing can be quite unnerving
I may just update my weight loss story next week, as it will be my week 26, 6 months into my journey. I hope that maybe I can inspire others to keep at it
I am glad to hear that, and I shall definitely look forward to reading the updated version of your story Moreless, as it is such an inspiring thread, and I know it has already inspired many people.
Haha me being called silly billy really made me laugh, thanks!
But then why would Lowcal say "I only recently read your weight loss story thread, and I thought it was extremely inspiring"?
I mean she DOES read you every day as we all do on here (for our greatest pleasure!) so which weight loss story thread could she be referring to? That's what got me thinking lol. I obviously got this all wrong and shall be waiting for your update next week followed by mine
Hope you don't mind Moreless, but I'm going to pos the link to your 12 week update thread here, as I know Nussaybah is looking for the inspiring thread, and it's really really good:
Thanks a lot Lowcal yes I had read it actually. I think it surprised me when you said you only recently read it but then I remembered you're Lowcal and must be getting dozens of notifications and new messages to read lol so yes one message could slip through!
I remember reading it and also finding it inspirational I think Prin had actually included it in the weekly thread one week where she had to post it while you were away or something! I had written my 12 week update the same week too.
Well done Moreless - are you aware of what was different this past week? Ive gained this week and have eaten out with friends and family twice this week and also been testing wedding cake samples! So have you any thoughts regarding your wonderful loss?
Thanks Beryl, I'm afraid I'm as boringly predictable with my eating, as I am with my exercising. I set myself a target and stick to it. I haven't deviated in my eating for 6 months - my losses and gains are purely down to my body's reactions and nothing to do with changes in intake
Hi Moreless I agree about fluctuating weight each day. Yesterday I was lower than today. But hey ho as my daughter has said to me it's just a number on the scales and you are lovely. Hopefully the scales will go down again for you next week. I am sure you can do it!
Great loss moreless. I know what you mean about fluctuating weight, all the knowledge does advise not to weigh daily. I try to stick to twice a week, usually the weekend brings up the weight though!
You're right, much advice historically did advise not to weigh daily, but there is now some evidence that it can help some people - and this thread is an interesting read on the subject:
I think it's good that people are doing what works best for themselves personally. I do weigh myself every day, but I only report my weight at this Monday group weigh-in.
I used to weigh once weekly suzymac, but got the shock of my life the first monday I had an inexplicable gain. I weigh daily now, so that I can try to see trends in my fluctuations and deal with them more calmly
Time to dust down the bikes, mine is very cold and grimy at moment but having got van all ready to go the bike trial is next Had great fun on ladder trying to clean algae off roof yesterday. From bedroom window I can see I missed one little bit so I can see another precarious climb up the ladder!! Hubby is not well, very rare for him to be ill but seems to have the shivers and flu like symptoms so he couldn't help!!
Oh my word Lizzie, you're brave! I don't do ladders at all! I can't even climb a step ladder, it's terrifying!
My bike is warm and dust free, as it's on it's stand inside the house, but if the weather continues to improve the way it has been, it'll be time to take it out for a spin
Gosh moreless - you are up and down a bit aren't you ! Hopefully it was just a blip last week and that this week will see a good, proper loss again and you can be reassured it's not going to fluctuate daily again !
Woo-hoo! I knew you would lose a decent amount this week, those scales must have been messing you around last week, just to keep you on your toes. You deserve to lose weight with all the exercise you do and I bet you stick to your diet well too (I can imagine you don't have much time left over to nibble)!
I have to admit that I'm not sure what I should be weighing now, I don't know whether to trust the highs, or the lows! I'm hoping that I'm not going to keep doing these massive swings, a nice steady downward shift would be lovely
I do stick to my diet - I'm a bit of a commitment freak
Moreless, you are making some serious progress on your journey and I am amazed with your consistently amazing results you are catching me up fast and I might find myself having to dive out of your way real soon if you keep this up. well done mrs x
Well done on the loss Moreless and don't be too hard on yourself. You have done a fair mileage this week....I know.....I've been trying to keep up with you!
Good morning, well that's my first week completed and I feel great. i tentatively stood on the scales this morning and wow almost 4lbs off. My starting weight was 13st 12lbs 4oz and I now weigh 13st 8lbs 6oz. I know I'm just at the beginning and have a long way to go but I feel positive for the first time in ages. Looking forward to week 2 and I've downloaded my exercise podcasts already !!!
Good morning, and well done for completing your first week and it's especially good to hear you're feeling great. Wow, you've lost almost 4 pounds this week, that is fantastic! Ruth_Canal_Runner does our weekly stats, so I know she'll calculate that precise amount. I would normally put the amount down to help her, but it's a little early in the morning for me to feel I've woken up properly yet, and Maths isn't my strong point!
Great that you're feeling positive for the first time in ages, that's a great feeling, and should stand you in good stead. You're already prepared as you've downloaded those exercise podcasts, and you're ready for week 2.
Wishing you a Happy Monday and a great week ahead.
Lowcal I am sure that you can get back to the 12's soon. Thanks for the encouragement for the rest of us even when the scales are not being kind to you. Onwards and downwards.
54.4 kg for me today. So that's a tiny gain of 0.1kg. So I am still happily maintaining in my 53 -55 kg band.
I am going to try and get to 53 kg by the time I go on holiday but am really only being extra vain for the thought of the beach. Generally I am very happy at this weight.
Keep going to all you wanting to lose . You can do this. You are doing this....
Thanks so much for your kind encouragement. I will do my best to get back into the 12's this week. Onwards and downwards.
Congratulations to you for continuing to maintain within your maintaining band of 53 - 55 kg, and that 0.1kg gain is extremely minimal. It's so great that you're feeling very happy at your current weight, that is really good!
Great that you've got your holiday and thoughts of the beach to inpsire you forwards to achieving your goal to be 53kg. Like you've said 'Keep going... You can do this... You are doing this...'
Thank you for the above Lowcal. I know with your determination, you will get rid of that gain in no time.
Am pleased to report this morning I am in the tens! ☺ but only just!!
So today 10 13. 8!
Last week 11 02. 3 so a loss of 2.5lbs.
Since start on 4th Jan I have lost almost 11lbs (10. 9) in 8 weeks.
Delighted.
In February I lost 4lbs in total. Average is so good! 😊
I have two walls I normally struggle to get through (getting to them then putting on again) that is 11 and 10 12. So my next goal on this healthy journey is to get to 10 10.
Now strangely my measurements are bucking the normal trend. I normally lose weight first off top of body but this has been reversed!
Since starting top of arms same (groan), chest -.25 of an inch.
Waist -1.75 inches, navel -.5, hip -. 5 and leg -.5. I may have lost a bit more as i was reading tape measure incorrectly on day 1, so i am going to redo the figures later.
Morning LC, I seem to have gained again today at 11st 13.8lb which is 2.2lb more than last week however the tape measure says I've lost 1/2 an inch from my waist so perhaps the scales are lying to me haha
Lowcal, both of us have gained the last two weeks, how about a challenge to see who can lose the most weight this week?
Ok Steve, you're on - sometimes competition can be very healthy, and I think your challenge to me will help to inspire me - so let's go for it. We can help one another!
It's always a disappointment when you step on the scales and see a gain, especially if you've had a good week when you've stuck to plan, but these things happen to the best of us from time to time, the challenge is to stay with it and think more long term try to see the bigger picture if you can, I know only too well how difficult that can be.
I've struggled since Christmas to get back in the groove but I think I'm there. Last week was the first week for a couple of months when I was 100% back on it, and I shed 2lbs this week, this takes me down into the 9s again and just 3lbs off my original target weight, so hopefully I can have another good week with similar result next week but as I said earlier, you never know how your body is going to react...the best laid plans etc.
Have a good & enjoyable week everyone. Best wishes to you all.
Good for you jenever- really pleased to hear about your loss - proving that just keeping at it - does pay off. I have needed some excellent stories this morn and you and asics have given me the focus I need :-)- something to am for....
That's a loss of 2.6 lbs - and a total of around 13.4 lbs. I'm so close to the stone mark and also the 10sts. Hoping to give a big push this week and can achieve them both next week
well im a bit disappointed this week as i know i haven't been very good with my eating and not sticking to plan but am greatful for the round the world challenge which i totally believe helped me maintain my weight.
...in the grand scheme of things maintence is good- and you sound like you were off plan - but counter acted it with exercise ---good. I know i can maintain -- but need to get to the weight i want to be first
A maintain is always better than a gain kars, so don't be disappointed
Well done for keeping on track with your exercise, even if your eating did slip slightly. A little bit of reigning in should see a loss on the scales next monday.
I had put on 1 lb on when I weighed today. At first I couldn't think why.......and then I remembered the lick of a spoon when I made a cake, a skinny latte I hadn't counted when I was out shopping, the good intentions of the exercise I didn't actual do, the apple pie and ice cream I had for lunch which I shared with my hubby so that made it okay......and those are only the things I remember!
So, more changes to be made this week. Firstly, I remembered that I have lost 6lbs since I started which is great. I will write down everything I eat this week. And I will move more everyday - a walk in my lunch, a bit of gardening in the evening, a swim on weds, and a good long walk pushing my grandson in his buggy when he comes on Friday. Move more, eat less this week.
Sorry bout your gain - you have done the analysis so you know what is what. And you have not lost sight of the fact you have an overall loss - so keep hold of that. As is often said - we didn't gain weight overnight and it is a not a speedy process to go the other way- and those darn scales find us out when we have been off plan.
You summarised it really well - 'move more- eat less' - I shall adopt that for my mantra this week
Morning. Last week I was 73.7, today I'm apparently 73.5kg. I find this hard to believe as I've been actively socialising (cocktails, bread, pavlova, wine, all taboo items) 3 times this week, which is about 3 times more than a normal week. I suspect I'll get my comeuppance next week...
But more seriously, I'm a tiny bit frightened that I've lost the black and white attitude that got me through the first 7 weeks of this year. I really don't want to cave every time I'm with friends, for example, and up until this week I was being really strict. Now that I've lost some weight - but less than half the total I need to shift - I sense my old carefree ways creeping back in.
Will give myself a strict talking to and set a new goal. In fact I already have one in mind. Break the 60s barrier (ie lose 3.5kg+) by Easter Sunday - egg day and husband's birthday party.
...we are allowed to be human and 'party' - otherwise what is the point? However , like you i have to think about what 'partying' to prioritise. I am now looking ahead and taking out 'unnecessary socialising - bit dull - but i see it as a short term sacrifice for the longer term gains.
I guess what you have proved is you can party and not gain - which when you get to ideal weight will be ideal
Hi everyone - I am still struggling to get back to my pre Christmas weight, which was under 67 kg and in the healthy BMI region. I am now (weigh in today) 69.8 kg.
My first mini goal is to get below 69.2 kg which will take me back to not being overweight.
As winter is hopefully finally reaching an end I need to get active again, intending to walk my 30 minutes around the block at least 3 times a week. My reward for reaching my first mini goal will be a new swimming costume ... and then it will be off to the swimming pool for yet more exercise. I am aiming for 65 kg weight by the end of May.
It's great that you've chosen to join us and that you've shared your starting weight, history and goals with us
You say you're struggling to get back to your pre-christmas weight, but I'm sure that with our support, you'll see the back of those 3kgs in next to no time
Here's to a great week that sees you achieving your first mini goal and a smashing new swimsuit
Well done for losing 1/2lb amz and if you lose a bit more this week, you'll be into the 12's, which will be fantastic!
Have a great week
Good morning all
Some good results already this morning well done. I have a lot of empathy for gainers and we all know it's just a temporary blip for varying reasons many of which don't make sense to us.
I had a loss of 1.2 pounds on the scales which means I am over half way to my first goal and have lost over a stone in 8 weeks. Now 10 st 11.4. After all the exercise last week I had hoped for a greater loss but to get things into perspective I also measured my body fat on the scales and this has dropped over the 8 weeks from 49% to 42.6% and BMI from 30.5 to 27.9 and waist 33ins to 31 ins. So for me it's onwards and downwards. Best wishes all.
Yaaay Mimsta! Great loss, even though you were expecting more. I think you'll reap the benefit of the extra exercise further down the line - that's how it works for me anyway
Your stats are fantastic and you should be really proud
My hedonistic activities this week have led to a disappointing 3 lbs gain weighing in at 13 st 1 lbs 😔. Shamefaced Berylbee3. But we press on! It's another week another chance 🙂
All is not lost. You know where things went wrong, so it's just a case of getting back to basics and those extra pounds will just be a distant memory
Wishing you a great week
Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum and this is my first time sharing on the morning weigh-in.
I went on the diet in January (don't we all????). My initial weight on 1st January was 66.6kg, and my target at the moment is 59.9kg. I basically want to see anything under 60kg.
My weight this morning is 63.7kg, which is half a kilo less from last week's 64.2kg. Yay!!
My birthday is tomorrow so I've got a feeling next week's weigh-in might suffer.
Good luck to everyone and may the grams keep falling off.
It's great that you've chosen to join us and that you've shared your starting weight, history and goals with us
You've done amazingly well so far and half a kilo loss this week is great!
Happy birthday for tomorrow, just try to be mindful of what you're eating and drinking and be extra vigilant for the rest of the week to compensate
Have a look at the welcome newbie thread, which can be found in the pinned post section to the right of your screen. There's lots of tips and motivating stories to be found there.
Happy Birthday for tomorrow, and really glad you have joined us here - have a great week!
Lowcal
Hi I have lost 2.5lb this week and weigh 13stone 12.5lb. I am pleased I have lost nearly all the weight I put on last time. However, with not being well for much of the time since last weigh in I have not been watching my diet too much or exercising. My aim this week is to put all this behind me and to get back on track.
Going into London today with my hubby so will probably do a lot of walking.
Morning all - I have got completely distracted with the Great reads this morning - i need to go to work- so I have had to stop replying.....I will be back this eve
Bad luck LC- get your determined hat on today - get back in those 12s
For me- I have not had an ideal week - And i have spent most of the week pretty fed up - but i wanted to lose some of those excess holiday pounds!!!
Result 4 pounds gone since last Sunday - hooray - onto the other 2.5- and i will be back where i was at being of Feb - and then aiming to claim my first stone by the end of March!!!
Good luck everyone - and have a good weight loss week
It's easy to get distracted by all these great posts, isn't it. But I know you're off to work now, so hope you have a good day and look forward to catching up with you later.
I know your week has been a tough one, and that you've been feeling quite fed-up for a large part of it, so well done for getting through that tough and challenging week, and especially good to hear you have lost 4 pounds over the course of the week, and you're close to being where you were at the start of February. You'll be claiming your first stone, all being well, by the end of March. Yay!
Wishing you a less challenging week ahead (really hope it is a better week for you) - and Congratulations again on your weight loss achievements. Really good!
Lowcal
It's rotten for those of you who've gained, but as many others have said this is a long time journey and we're trying to set up healthier eating habits. If we're trying to live a normal life it is unrealistic to expect never to have a slight gain. I found it hard to convince myself of that this week though following the previous week's gain
However I'm back on track again and it is so rewarding, especially on a week where I entertained friends.
Down from 13 St 4.5lbs to 13 St 2.75. A loss of 1.75 lbs.
Waist measurement down from 91 cm to 88 cm.
I'll try and remember my sage words when I'm staying with family at Easter. That will definitely be a blip, so I need to make progress before then.
You're right, it is a long time journey and we're setting up healthier eating habits, and weight does fluctuate as part of those patterns. I completely agree with everything you've said. Very sensible and realistic.
I am glad you convinced yourself of the above statements, and that you have now been able to enjoy the rewards of being back on track and coping with a week where you've also entertained your friends. Many Congratulations on losing 1.75 pounds, that is fantastic, and also great to hear you've lost 3 cms from your waist measurement.
You've still got time to make some good progress between now and Easter, and regarding the Easter holiday - maybe you can pre-plan a bit regarding how you'll cope with that time period, so that things are purely a very small blip and nothing more significant than that.
Good morning all. I have managed to get rid of one of those pounds I piled on in February so although I am still beating myself up about gaining a huge amount and losing my confidence I have managed to stop gaining - phew - and perhaps start to head in the right direction back towards the 11s and my BMI top target. Well done to everyone who is on track and heading in the right direction 😀 And chin up to gainers 😀 and well done to maintainers 😀
Yaaay rainshine! It feels great to stop the rot doesn't it?
There will be no stopping you now. Look positively at your achievements, give yourself a pat on the back and forge ahead with renewed determination, to rid yourself once and for all of those pesky extra pounds!
What I don't understand doctorwho, is why you've been clocking up all those K's, but not sharing them with the Around the World challenge?
You're being remarkable stoic about your gain, well done you. I had something similar happen to me and wondered then about how we generally accept blips downwards on the scales, but freak out at blips upwards. You're enviably level-headed
So week 6 and I did manage to reach 11:3.4oz so 2llbs from last week's 11:5.4oz. Didn't quite make it to 11:3 but: Meal at friends on Friday, out to brasserie Saturday night and pub lunch yesterday so could have been a lot worse!
Lots of exercise planned for the week as away next weekend to catch up with my boys for Mothers Day.
Hay Mrs Fizz, you will be joining us this time yes? First Mother's Day more excitement!
Hope everyone has a good week. Tomorrow we are into meteorological Spring time hooray !!!
Let us know if anyone proposes to their partner today?!
Good morning! Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week, that is really great! You also enjoyed a meal with friends on Friday and some meals out on the weekend too - that's a really excellent result. I hope you enjoyed your meals.
Lovely that you'll be enjoying Mother's Day with your boys next weekend.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and here's to Springtime tomorrow!
Weight this morning 11st 5lbs - Last weighed 10th February 11st 6lbs
One pound off and I have been on holiday for two weeks so i am very pleased with this 😊🎉😜 whoop whoop 😊
Starting weight August last year 13st 7lbs so have lost Just over 2 stone. Achieved my initials target of 5% loss for my sons wedding in October, and achieved the 2 stone off for my recent holiday. My height is 5'1" and my build is small so I have quite a way to go, but chronic arthritis pain keeps me focussed, especially as this is so much improved already.
Next target is into the 'tens', then I would like to be able to wear a swimsuit on my summer holiday in May without frightening the natives!!! Lol 😂😂😂 dare I hope for under ten stone?
Good luck everyone, and thank you for a great forum 😊
Firstly, welcome back from your holiday, and I hope you had a wonderful time. I think you've done really well to lose 1 pound, after being away for a 2 week holiday, as many people gain or maintain after a holiday - so well done you!!! Whoop Whoop!!!!
I am really happy that you've decided to join in our Monday group weigh-ins. I can see you've already had a very successful year - losing just over 2 stones since you started in August 2015. How lovely that you had your son's Wedding in October and you were already 5% lighter for that occasion. That is a great achievement. It's also great that you're feeling some relief from your chronic arthritis pain.
Wishing you continued success with your goals, and here's to you wearing that lovely swimsuit on your holiday in May - and definitely not frightening the natives!
Great to have you on board with us, and wishing you another great week ahead.
Hi everyone very very pleased to report 10st 13 3/4 lb today, aloss of 2 1/4 lb this week and made it to the tens! 6 3/4 lb to goal weight which has target of easter sun . best wishes keep going its worth it x
Fantastic to hear you've made it into the 10's - that is really really great!!!! Congratulations on losing 2.25 pounds this week, and you're getting closer to your goal weight - you're right, 'keep going' - it's definitely worth it, and so are you!
Good morning everyone. I weighed in this morning at 16st 8lbs so a loss of 2lbs for the week. I tried everything to get the needle to hit 16-7 but it just would not budge! So my target to hit 16-7 will have to wait until next week ;-( Another inch lost from the waist too so I am getting into some of those smaller trousers now. I wish everyone a great week John
Wow, you've lost 2 pounds this week, that's a great result! Sorry you couldn't get the needle to hit 16-7, but achieving 2 pounds is really excellent. You'll get to 16-7 next week, no problem! Great to hear you've also lost 1 inch from your waist as well - those smaller trousers will be fitting you perfectly.
It's a new start on the 12 week programme for me, I weighed in a 15st 12lbs this morning. My recent blood test showed higher cholesterol than the last result and the Dr wants me to start on statins.
I've agreed with him that I have 6 months to lose the weight and reduce the cholesterol before I have another blood test and if necessary take yet more tablets - statins.
Its good to read everyone's comments about the ups and downs of weight loss, perseverance seems to be the answer, there are no quick fixes
You are making a new start on the 12 week programme, and you've weighed in this morning, so well done for both. You're right, there are no quick fixes, or at least if there 'appear' to be quick fixes, then it suggests that the initial weight loss won't be sustained, so having an eating plan like the 12 week NHS plan is one that is sustainable and advocates healthy eating choices that we can take on board for life. That's the great thing about it - at least that's what I think!
You've got a good plan, which you've agreed with your GP, and I'd like to wish you success with your weight loss over the next 6 months and beyond, so that you can look to reduce your cholesterol.
I do know of a recipe book called "Eat Your Way to Lower Cholesterol" - I do have this book, but I haven't tried the recipes yet, but they do look really nice. It was written by a nutrition expert (Ian Marber) and a Consultant Cardiologist (Laura Corr) so I do think they are good sources. I often get books from the local library, so you might be able to find some good books there too, and there are lots of resources on the internet too for good recipes etc.
Wishing you a great week ahead.
Lowcal
I gained 2 lbs this week and hit 11st 4 lbs (again!). Haven't been to gym and food (and drink) has been out of control. (could have been worse). So,.... yes, back on the horse this week!
It sounds like you've had a tougher week this week, as you didn't get to the gym and you said your food and drink have been out of control. Maybe think about what was different about this week, and maybe pre-plan the week ahead (if you can) to make it a different week for you. You're back on the horse again, and hopefully that 2 pound gain will soon be a thing of the past again.
Have a great week.
Lowcal
Good morning everyone, and commiserations Lowcal on a further tiny gain on the scales - it seems so unfair but I really hope there's an explanation - water retention from exercising perhaps? This week I've lost 2lbs down to 10st2. I'm disappointed though as I'd really hoped to completely reverse last week's mega 4lb gain. I know the only solution is to just keep going, as everyone else is! I wouldn't mind another 2lb loss next week though, then to get into the 9s the week after. But I'll have to pay closer attention I think. I kept to my cycling and running goals this week but I only did basic exercises, no strength. I also had a few treats during the week and may be guilty of the phenomenon known as 'portion creep', as well as simply not logging my food on myfitnesspal. So my goals this week are 3 strength sessions and to measure everything I put on my plate and to log it all in mfp every day.
Thanks Moreless - I'm trying very hard to keep it in perspective. But once you start aiming to lose it's hard to accept anything except a downward trend on the scales. I think back to basics is the only way. I will be concertedly avoiding the wine shelves in the shops all week, and my plates will be deliciously loaded with lots of excellent healthy veg. Also I'm considering starting some kind of March strength challenge... watch this space...
You have a great attitude so I'm sure you will get those two pounds back this week.
A strength challenge would be great for when we have finished around the world. But please start of us slowly as my old muscles growl at me if I stress them too much suddenly. Pilates is week off for this week so missing two strength sessions
Hi Ruth, (lovely Fab 5'er and wonderful Stats woman),
Well done on your 2 pound loss, and I'm really excited to hear you're thinking of doing a March Strength Challenge - I would definitely like to join you with that. I'll keep my eyes open for it.
I am so sorry that you've been waiting a while here for a reply! I don't know how we missed you!
Sorry to hear your hormones are being annoying - and you've had another gain - nearly a 3 pound gain in 2 weeks - we'll put that down as a 1.5 pound gain if that's ok with you - due to stats for one week being what Ruth will take into account when she does the weekly stats.
Great that you got back to good habits again yesterday, and I think this week is going to be a good one - afterall, it's the first day of Spring tomorrow, and that's got to be good!
Have a great week.
Lowcal
I've lost 0.6kg so now 68.3kg which is great of course but is actually just the half kilo I put on last week!!
I find it tough without my usual long distance walks. I relied on them to sort my head out after work but also I now realise they were good for keeping in shape!
but positive thinking - I can ride my bike, do some stuff at the gym, oh and swim! I loathe the pool. 🏊🏻😱
That's great Ceriandblue, it means you're back to scratch now and from here on in, it'll be losses all the way
Have you thought about introducing some strength exercises into your routine? They're great for both weight loss and toning. Have a go, they might surprise you
Congratulations on losing 0.6kg this week. It is going in the right direction now, and I know that you're missing your usual long distance walks, but you're still able to ride your bike, do some stuff at the gym and swim - I am sorry that you loathe the pool though - maybe try to imagine you're swimming somewhere completely different - e.g. in your mind's eye you could think that maybe you're swimming somewhere else completely - maybe the lovely scenes from Fizzyliz's Around the World Challenge photos will help. (I do realise it's probably quite tough to change the local swimming pool into Fiji or Hawaii - but it might help!
Hope you have a good week ahead.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal
Hope you have a less frustrating result in this coming week - as you say though, there are ups and downs to be dealt with on the weight loss journey - just got to keep on going!
Last week I was 11st 4lb, this week I am 11st 3lb. Another one bites the dust!
Good luck for a great weight loss week to everyone!
xx
PS I am copying someone else’s brill idea to re-state my recently set (modest!) targets so that I can’t ignore them!
Marmite Rehoming’s summer challenge: 19 weeks to 4th July – started at 11 stone 4lb, target set at 10 stone 9lb.
Sueper’s chocolate bunny challenge: 8 weeks to Easter – started at 11 stone 4lb, target set at 10 stone 13lb.
My first week has been very successful! I have been exercising for at least 40 minutes every day and have been counting my calories. Not got down to 1400 a day and even had two naughty treats (CAKE!) yet I have managed to lose! Started at 11st 13 ½, now at 11st 10 ¼ - so 3 and a ¼ pounds off!
Happy Monday everyone! Static at 11st 4lbs this week. Ate out twice this week, so had to estimate cals. If it hadn't been for the 80day challenge encouraging me to move about a bit more, I'm sure I would have gained. Best wishes to all for a good week.
Congratulations for maintaining your weight this week. Eating out can be challenging, and you've managed to do so, and still maintain your weight, so you must have made some good choices. Well done! Great that the 80 Day challenge is encouraging you - it definitely does the same for me. I love that challenge.
Disappointed that having started I have actually gained 1lb this week, thought I was being more careful and have been more active. I am finding it difficult to count calories when I am cooking myself for me and my daughter. She is 17 , does a lot of sport and has a healthy appitite so I am trying to cook healthily and then having smaller portions. But I'm not strong willed enough yet. The scales don't lie and if I'm going to start loosing weight I have to get my head in the right place. Going out for a couple of lunches this week so I'm already planning what I can order that will help not hinder me. any hints on the calorie counting would be appreciated.
I found out this week (after I'd eaten out!) that the myfitnesspal app. has quite a few restaurant meals stored. Not sure how accurate they are, but they might help as a guide? Good luck with your eating out, it's a shame steak and salad, which is usually a good bet is so expensive!
Don't be put off by that 1 pound gain, sometimes it happens, particularly if you've started doing more exercise than you might normally do. I have found that if I exercise more than usual, then I often gain some water weight, but it quickly disappears if I keep on track.
You're right, having your head in the right place is a big part of successful weight loss, and you're already looking at pre-planning your meals out - that is a great strategy - and I see that Mrscaw has already pointed you in the direction of Myfitnesspal - which is a great resource and has many restaurant meals calorie counted.
I find that restaurants often have their menus online - so it is possible to pre-plan your choices, and can be really helpful to do so.
My husband too has a very healthy appetite 😊 so with regards to portions I try to eat half of the amount he does, I do all the cooking and weigh before I cook so know the calories, but this helps me control the amount I am eating. Hope this helps?
Hi everyone I have tried (and failed) so many times to lose weight. I'm going for it this time, family history of dodgy knees and diabetes. I'm not good with metric, it's imperial for me. I was 11 stone 4 this morning. I'm doing the couch to 5k slowly which is actually helping my knees. I retired from work last year so there really is no excuse now, apart from willpower! Good luck to all xx
Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of this group. It's a friendly and supportive group - and I'm really glad you've decided to join us. Have you read the 'Welcome Newbie' post, that Moreless has put together? It's in the Pinned posts area of the homepage - right-hand-side of that page, and definitely worth a read through.
I would recommend following the NHS 12 week plan - let me know if you don't know where to find that, if you want to take a look.
You've shared your starting weight today, and I hope that felt ok to do so. You might like to also take your body measurements so that you can keep a record of bodily changes too - as these are sometimes very motivating on those occasions when the scales don't necessarily budge.
Glad that Couch to 5k is helping your knees, and well done for doing that.
Morning Lowcal and everyone. I'm sure you'll soon be registering a loss again soon, Lowcal. I often weigh myself during the week and have found my heaviest time is a Monday morning!
I was below 52 kg most of the week but today, 52.5, which is still 600g less than last Monday so I'm happy. I'm missing out on zumba and pilates tonight as I have a nasty cold so won't be burning those calories today, but that's life, I'm thankful I have no major health issues.
Good morning! I agree with you, Monday morning is often my heaviest day of the week too, but as we compare with the next Monday, it doesn't really matter too much - and I do believe it's motivating to weigh on Monday so that the weekend isn't left 'unaccountable' for - if that makes sense.
Congratulations on losing 600g - that is great! I am sorry that you've got a nasty cold, and you're very sensible to miss your classes so you can recuperate. Hopefully that pesky cold will be gone really soon.
I agree with you about weekends and being accountable. Thanks for your good wishes re the cold x
Morning Lowcal and the Fab 5'ers
Today I am handed my daughter and me and Mr Fizz see it as a new chapter in our lives. I pledge today that I will try my very best to be a healthier version of me. I want to lose minimum 3 stone by the summer hols. Right now I'm 16.4. And I am off booze completely for at least 26 days. There are 15 days left of the Around the World Challenge. I need to get myself in the weekly stats.
Good morning. I am so excited that you're starting a new chapter in your lives with your daughter today. I am so happy for you. Really really great.
Congratulations on being off booze completely for 26 days, that is an achievement.
Wow, 15 days left of the Around the World Challenge - I would like to thank you so much for that Challenge, because it has really helped me, and I know how much everyone has appreciated your hard work and dedication, and Moreless's hard work and dedication too, you are both amazing.
Do you know what your weight was last week, as I am not sure what your weekly result is for this week. Ruth will probably be able to access last week's weight, if you forget to tell us - as I know you're off to do the weekly stats for the Around the World Challenge, and I can imagine that will take some time!
Wishing you a wonderful week with your daughter, and here's to a Wonderful Mother's Day for you next weekend.
Oh no, sorry to hear you've had horrible PMT all week - and chocolate cravings alongside it. That's a tough combination! Congratulations on losing 2 pounds - that is really great - especially with the background of the PMT to contend with.
Thanks for your encouraging words - I will definitely aim to keep working at it. I do enjoy eating healthy foods and I enjoy the exercise too, and I do realise that I didn't get to the gym at all last week, so I must rectify that and go a couple of times at least. I'll pledge to do that.
Wishing you a great week ahead. Should be nicer for you now your PMT is behind you.
I have lost 1 lb this week which puts me at my lowest weight since I joined the plan, it's only by 0.5 lb but it's still a new lowest weight.
In exactly 3 weeks time I will be on a plane to Portugal, and set myself an Easter challenge of being in the 9's by the time I boarded the flight. To achieve my goal I will need to lose a minimum of 4 lb in the next 3 weeks which is a tough target, particularly as its hubbys birthday on Friday. I need to re-gain some of my lost focus and put in some extra effort in terms of exercise so this weeks goals are, pilates, 1000 kettlebell swings, 1 crosstrainer session and increase my weekly km's to better last weeks efforts.
Woohoo mrsg, your lowest weight to date! YAHOO! What a star!
You can reach your target, I know it. Remember the focus and energy that went into your kettlebell challenge. You inspired us all then and you can do it again! I'm waving my pom poms for you and your Portugal bikini is lying, waiting to put the finishing touch on your gorgeous bod!
Thank you so much for your encouragement although 'gorgeous bod?' is beyond the stretch of my imagination.
Really well done on your amazing loss this week, your committment is truly admirable I just know that you will keep the scales going in a downwards direction next week.
I am just back from beautiful sunny Portugal 😊 Have a great time, the fish and salads out there are gorgeous, and the fruit so tasty 😊 Not to mention all the walking and partying😊🎉🎶💃🏾 I managed to still lose a pound, so pleased with myself. 😊
Enjoy your holidays and good luck with the target 😊
Thank you for your kind words, I'm hoping that swimming and golf while I'm away will keep me on target. I'll be happy with a maintain for my holiday week as there will undoubtedly be some liquid calories consumed. You should be delighted with losing a lb when you were on holiday that's a fantastic result.
Vodka with Slimline tonic is my guilty pleasure but I'm also quite easily led astray sharing a nice bottle of red wine with friends. The only saving grace is that cocktails which tend to be very high in calories just don't do it for me. Have a good week.
Hopefully we can. I just want to make this my year for losing the weight once and for all. I was 16 stone this time last year and felt so unwell with a bad back. Managed to lose a stone but then stayed around 15 for the rest of the year. Determined to get back to a healthy BMI. First goal is to not be in the obese section of the chart!
6 months ago, I was almost 20 stone! I didn't have a life at all! I'm now more that 4 stone lighter and also determined to get back to healthy BMI - merely overweight would be pretty good for the next goal though
Hi folks - at the end of week 2 - today I'm 97.8 k - so another 0.6k lost - not as exciting as the first week - but I'll take it, its all good ... more yoga this week - and no wine at all
this is my first ( forum) weigh-in, only lost half a pound this week, groan. but overall down from 16st 5lb to 13st 6 and a half pound...better off than on!
Interesting comments about shape changing when experiencing a disappointing weight loss result. Good point and one I hadn't thought off LowCal. I wish I had measured myself back in the begining, but was so disgusted with myself and really didn't want to know. I was a 20, now in size 14 skinny stretch jeans that look ok. Size 16 trousers quite roomy and comfortable, so feeling like I will go through the wardrobe to do a purge and feel good looking at the outsize stuff going to charity shop.
I used an old belt that used to fit as a guide, it now goes into the first notch, that was a nice surprise.
Will brave the measuring tape and give myself a boost! Results will be posted next Monday.
Thankyou all for your support, wish I had come to the Forum earlier, better late than never! xxx
I am really happy that you've found your way to the Forum, and that you've joined us for today's Monday group weigh-in. Welcome!!! I hope your first weigh-in felt ok - and Congratulations on losing 0.5 pound this week. That's great! Imagine that half a pound of butter/lard on a plate and think to yourself, it's no longer on me. That's great!
I can see that you've already achieved a lot on your weight loss journey - and you've gone from a size 20 down able to fit those size 14 skinny stretch jeans and your size 16 trousers are quite roomy now. I'm sure you'll enjoy that purge on your wardrobe, and people will benefit from your outsize stuff going to charity.
Great that you're going to brave the measuring tape - it really does motivate on those occasions when the scales don't do what we'd like them to do, and it's definitely not all about the scales - but clearly having a Monday group weigh-in without scales would be a bit challenging!
1lb isn't much to gain and im sure you will have it back off in no time
I didn't get a chance to weigh myself this morning but would be scared to see the results anyway as I was away for the weekend in Krakow and the food is sooo cheap over there that I may have ate like I didn't know what 'restraint, diet and sensible eating' meant! lol lots of walking though so hopefully this week I can get back to eating sensibly and hopefully either record no gain next week or a loss (depending on how much damage the scales tell me I did at the weekend)
congrats to all the losses this week and maintains, to the gains im sure next week it will be a different story
Thanks for your encouraging words - much appreciated.
I hope you enjoyed your weekend in Krakow, and it sounds like there was lots of eating out opportunities, but you've obviously done lots of walking too, so the fact you're planning to get back on track this week should hopefully reap good rewards for next week's weigh-in.
Hi - hopefully I've got the correct link this time! I haven't been on the site for a while but over these last couple of weeks I have lost 3 lb which takes me to 1 1st 10lb. I'm very pleased Instead of thinking "I have half a stone or a stone to lose" , I'm thinking, well, I'm 1 1st 10lb so hopefully I'll aim for 1 1st 9lb. This seems to work for me so long may it continue! Hope everybody is getting on okay. Let's get fit!
Yes, you've got the correct link - great to see you again! We missed you!
Congratulations on losing 3 pounds in the last couple of weeks. I'd better divide that by 2 to give an average weekly amount for the stats of 1.5 pounds. Ruth will be doing our stats later this week, and I try to help her with the amounts, where I can. Hope that's ok with you.
You've got a good approach that is working for you, and like you say - long may it continue!
Wishing you a great week ahead, and like you say - 'let's get fit!'.
This is my second weigh in I've had a cough and cold this week so feeling sorry for myself I got the munchies. I've lost 1lb gone from 17st 8lb to 17st 7lb. Having written down everything I've eaten I know where I've gone wrong. Disappointed with myself I could have done better.
Feel so sorry for you, just getting over the same, still snuffling and coughing as we speak, and it does impact on how you think/eat/function! Don't be so hard on yourself, remember your body is distracted fighting the "germs" so you have done really well losing weight at all in my opinion!
Just keep drinking plenty water and be kind to yourself xxx
I agree with Sheepwhisperer, please do be kind to yourself - you've been ill and you got the dreaded munchies. Please try to challenge the disappointment, as you've done really well to lose 1 pound against such challenging circumstances. You're doing really well.
I hope you feel much better really soon, and I would like to wish you a great week ahead.
Hi! This has been my first week, and I have lost 2lb. Was previously 12.2, now 12.0! I am 42 years old and have been losing weight over the past 2 years on and off with weight watchers, but am fed up with the points system and want to calorie count, especially now I know more about healthy foods. I am also doing the couch to 5km alongside so that should help shift some more weight hopefully!
I am really looking forward to posting on here every week and feel inspired by all the other stories and sense of group spirit on this group. Hope to eventually get below 11 stone. Was 13 stone 10 at my heaviest.. Anyway, I am feeling really positive that this is a lifestyle I can stick with, and I am determined to do it! 😊
Morning Funny old week. On Wednesday, for no obvious food based reason I gained 1lb 8oz. As you can imagine this was a shock! It coincided with an increase in exercise and an increase in severe joint and muscle pain so after abit of research, it is probably fluid caused by aggravating my inflammatory condition. So onwards, with this in mind, more careful exercising, the fluid will have to stay. As of today I am 14 stone 7.4lb so have lost 2.8lb which in non digital means 2lb and 13oz. Not my intended 5lb but still down
To summarise
2lb 13oz lose
Total lose week 1 and 2
10lb 7oz
I have shifted 1and 1/2inch off each thigh, 1 and 1/2 inch off the waist.
All losses are good losses TheHud and 2.8lbs is above the average
My weight fluctuates throughout the week by as much as 5lbs, so a 1.5lb fluctuation would be quite normal to me. I do hope that you haven't caused yourself any damage though, if as you say, exercise has exacerbated your inflammatory condition. I'm glad that you will be bearing this in mind in the future.
Well done for the overall weight loss and the loss of inches and good luck with your goal of 4lbs
Thanks Moreless, I will be taking day breaks, like yesterday when things are firing up. Probably not a great deal more damage to be done, need to get this weight right down to help the joints, help them last a bit longer. I will get there
Don't be disappointed Segrie, .66lbs sounds much better and is more than a pack of lard, so not to be sneezed at
There's nothing wrong with having a fried egg for breakfast, if you want one, I'd have been more alarmed if you'd decided to have a Mars bar
You are certainly not hopeless! You're heading in precisely the right direction, which is to be celebrated and applauded!
It's worth remembering too, that if you're using your muscles more than usual, they have a knack of hanging onto water, but later on down the line, those muscles will reward you for your effort, by burning calories while you sleep
Take heart, everything is going to plan, you just have to be patient, We're rooting for you!
I was looking forward to reading the thread this morning as I have been poorly this week and still not back 100%. I am sorry for your gain this week Lowcal but again your positive attitude leaves me no doubt you will reach your goals and that I should not worry for you too much :). In fact, I believe that it is seeing you and the team coping so well with the occasional gain that has built my confidence and let me believe I will definitely reach my own goals. Because I finally understood it would not be a linear downward trend, and I never expected it to be, so there was no undue stress when the scales were up.
I have also realised re-reading some of your opening posts this morning that you always add a goal for yourself for the following week and I do not. I was reflecting that probably I do not because I am so confident I will eventually reach my aim of getting into the healthy zone that I absolutely do not worry about how long it will take me or how quickly or slowly I will get there. I will just get there. So I take every week as it comes until I reach it. However this week I think I will set myself a target, which was inspired to me by reading Moreless's reference to her week 26 next week which will be mine too (I do not count my weeks I just know she and I started at the same time haha). I never thought of it as a milestone until I read your exchange but I do now.
This morning I was weighing 71.4kg which is 157.41 pounds, compared with 71.9kg last week which was 158.51 pounds. SO I have lost 1.1pounds in spite of being ill and exercising less. I am pleased with that. My BMI this morning was of 25.2. I need to lose another 600g (about 1.25 pounds) to get to a healthy BMI. Thanks to Moreless keeping a tab on the weeks for me (lol), I now would like to set myself to lose that amount of weight by next Monday in order to make my first steps into the Healthy Zone by the end of my week 26! Which will mean that I will have gone from Obese to Healthy in exactly 6 months, started and graduated on the Couch to 5k programme, got hold a bike and cycling, which then pushed me to sit for (and pass first time!) my theory test and now driving lessons as well, changed my whole attitude to food and wellness, and having people saying I look 10 years younger than before lol! My next target will then to go as low as 11st as I am 11st 3.41 pounds now, and I started at 14 stones exactly, so in two weeks I am hoping to be able to say I have lost 3 full stones in this journey.
Thanks again to everyone here for the encouragement and support. It has made this journey so much more bearable and frankly I am tempted to say it actually made it possible.
I always enjoy reading your posts, and I would like to Congratulate you on another great loss this week - 1.1 pounds is a great loss. I am sorry to hear you've not been very well this week, and that you're still not back to 100% - do look after yourself and get well again soon.
You're right, the weight loss journey is a long-term process and is rarely a linear downward trend - it has ups and downs along the way, and I love your words when you say "No undue stress when the scales are up" - as it definitely doesn't help to get stressed by such occurrences, as stress has a negative effect on our weight anyway, so better to put it in perspective and move forward positively. Yes, I always (or mainly) put a weekly goal after my weigh-in results, because although I have my longer-term goal, it's the mini goals that help me get towards it, and I like to try to make the most out of each week with a goal that feels achievable and is something to work towards.
It's so exciting to hear you're getting so close now to the health BMI, and I would like to wish you success in achieving that this week - it's great that you have your Week 26 ahead - and brilliant that Moreless has kept account of the weeks since she and you both started, so you know which week you're at.
I shall look forward to your post next week - and in the meantime, have a wonderful week.
Wow Nussaybah, you've done it again. Another fantastically motivating and inspiring post! You should have your own blog, it would be fantastic for everyone to turn to in times of need
From obese to healthy in 6 short months! What a magnificent achievement! I can't wait for next monday now
I love the fact that you've said you don't normally write your goals, because you're CONFIDENT that you're going to reach the healthy zone That's a confidence that didn't exist back in september and we've been privileged to see it grow over the months and allow you to do things you wouldn't have dreamed of back then
I shall keep everything crossed for you that next monday sees you in the healthy weight bracket and the 2 of us can compare notes
I usually loose 2 lbs a week. I was disappointed to only loose 1 lb l but than again I didn't do much exercise so that answers but this week I am up and about so will try to loose this week 2 lbs.
Good morning, everyone. Today is my first day, and my first weigh in.
12 stone 6 lbs
(Glad I weighed myself again this morning, I've 'lost' 1 lb since last night ;P!)
Waist: 37.5 inches
I'm trying to lose 2 lbs this week. I have a hard time fitting in exercise so that is my main goal: 30 minutes of walking 4 times this week. It all seems to simple when I write it down but I know it will be a challenge to stick to.
So glad to have all these supportive people around me! Thanks everyone! Together we can do this.
We're delighted that you've joined us for the weigh-in and that you've shared your starting weight with is
Try to weigh yourself in the same place, at the same time, naked, or you'll find that your weight varies greatly and you'll always weigh less in the morning, as you'll be retaining less fluid (as long as you pee first )
Your plans for walking sound great, so I hope you can stick to it this week
Have you seen the welcome newbie thread? It's located in the pinned posts section to the right of your screen and is full of useful tips
Team work is what this forum is all about, so we hope you'll join us in all our group activities
You're so right, a minor slip should never be considered as the 'end' - it is purely a very minor blip in the longer-term. Whoops, gained a pound - it will soon be a thing of the past again - just get back on track and re-gain that motivation. Think about what you can do this week to re-motivate yourself, and maybe list those things so that when you're feeling that the motivation is flagging, you can remind yourself of what helps.
Keeping an eye on your eating and drinking is helpful, as you can ensure you provide your body with healthy nutrients and keeping to sensible portion sizes is a key aspect. So don't drop that key, keep it in sight, and you can unlock your potential and drop that pound.
Good morning and welcome to this Monday group weigh-in. I'm really happy that you've decided to join us, and hope you'll enjoy being part of this group. Wow, you've had a really good week - losing 3 pounds - Congratulations!
Happy Birthday to you for yesterday! I am amazed that you still managed to lose weight during a Birthday week, that is a rare thing!
Many congratulations on your total weight loss - 6.12 stones - that is phenomenal. You're getting close to the 14's, and you started out at 22 stone. Glad to hear you've bought some new underwear now, as underwear falling off can definitely be a problem! Your waist has certainly changed - losing 14 inches off your waist means you definitely needed some new sizes.
Your post is very inspiring, and it's great that you're joining our group - as I am sure you will inspire many people to keep going.
Hopefully we can support you on your remaining journey too.
Sorry to hear that you've put on a bit this week Lowcal. It's probably still that trip away coming back to haunt you ! Darn holidays
I took on board your wise words about reporting weight, whether good or bad - but sadly I am choosing to ignore them !!
I had my husband hide the scales last night, so for the first time in 6 months I have absolutely no idea what I weigh this morning They will come back out the cupboard next Monday. I've decided this week to get back to recording on MFP, back to some basic eating, not worry about what I weigh each day, and to embrace the fact that I can't run for a day or so, and therefore I won't be starving hungry afterwards !
We'll see what difference that makes to me mentally this week.
You know, I'd forgotten about the fact I'd been away on that mini-break, and you're right, it probably has contributed to my weight gain still - I find that really helpful to be reminded of that, so thank you so much! I'm feeling better about it now!
Feel free to use any words of 'wisdom' imparted in this forum in whichever way you wish Lucca, because none of us are experts in this arena, we are only well-meaning folk on the same journey, and we can only impart things that we have found helpful - and what helps one person may not necessarily help another - so I think you're wise to do what works best for you. There is never an obligation to report your weight, if you don't want to. (Just doing a few eyebrow exercises there (oops, there was another one...
Your husband has hidden the scales, and you're trying a new mind-set this week, and I would like to wish you success in everything. You are amazing Lucca, and you have achieved such a lot. You are very close to your ultimate goal, and you will get there, I am sure of that!
But first, take it a day at a time, and here's to a great week ahead.
Glad to hear that you're back in the driving seat Lucca. Being in the right headspace is key to reaching your goals. If the scales were going to derail you, then they're best out of the way. 1 week of going back to basics will make all the difference to the way you're feeling.
Wishing you all the very best, but if you feel things slipping, you know where we are
Just a thought, but you'd better get over to your MiL's to use the exercise bike. You need to clock up the K's somehow!
I so sympathize with everyone who has gained this week. I know exactly how hard it is and how little one has to eat to gain weight. Which is precisely why I don't believe my scales today. I have been stuck at 65kg for the whole weekend, and last night had a small glass of wine and some extra chocolate which I knew i would regret today when I did the monday morning weigh-in. To my surprise, I'm 64.1kg today which is a loss of 1.4kg from last week. But I don't know how this has happened and i find it very hard to believe. My experience is usually that I weigh more than i expect, not less. I won't stand on the scales again today, but I am expecting it all to be reversed by tomorrow and I will weigh 65kg again.
Lol 2fatbyfar, I don't trust my scales today either!
Grab that 1.4kg loss for as long as it lasts, stick to plan this week and keep your fingers crossed for next week. That's my plan of action for this week, anyway
Hi everyone, well done on the losses and you'll get it on the gains. This is my first time posting in this weigh in thread. it's been a slow process for me but when I started i think it was in the middle of January I was 13st1 and today I weigh 12st8.8 so I have lost 5.2lbs in over a month.
I hope to go downwards generally as my weight fluctuates a lot on a day to day basis too.
Welcome to this Monday group weigh-in, and thank you for joining us today. Congratulations on losing 5.2 pounds in over a month, that is really good progress - slow and steady is a good way to lose weight.
You're into the 12's - and already getting close to the half stone point within the 12's - really great!
Achieving a downwards trend overall, despite the daily fluctuations is the important aspect. Our group motto is "Onwards and downwards".
Hi lowcal, moreless and all, my weight has been up and down all last week, but showing exactly the same as last week this morning so I'll have to go with that 😞 I'm gonna have to try harder! Wish me luck!! 😇
Good morning! Congratulations on maintaining your weight this week - a maintain is better than a gain - you've probably heard us say that many times before, but that is what we believe, and I hope you do too!
Wishing you luck for the week ahead, and here's to a loss on the scales for you next week!
Glad to see you found the current thread, and it's great that you've joined us here! I did respond to you in the other thread (dated 1st February) as well, and copied and pasted your post to this one, but I see you popped in here too - so you found us yourself.
For the stats, I'd like to add the following post by Heidi162, who has added her results to a previous thread (dated 1st February) instead of today's thread:
Heidi162 wrote:
Good morning, joined again as weight is going up! Today weighed in at 19st and 3 lbs. hope to be good for the whole week. Was off work last week and fatel....have a good week all.
Heidi x
I have already responded to Heidi in the other thread, but I have let her know I will copy and paste her results here so we can count her as part of our current group session.
Heidi had posted in the thread dated 1st February, and I just posted that for her to this one, but in the meantime she must have posted in here without me realising, so yes, she's posted in 2 threads, but Ruth will notice, so we'll only count Heidi's results once!
Moorless I am glad I am not the only one confused. I am confused with your weight I couldn't figure out if you gained all week and than maintained at the end or what ever it was?
It makes me feel good that it is not only me who gets confused!
Morning Everyone, I have unfortunately gained I am 13.9 today I was 13.8. I hope to reduce it this week. I am surprised and disappointed but as you say Lowcal and moreless onward and downward. Best wishes for the week ahead to Everyone.
Really sorry that your result wasn't what you hoped for today. I know you've gained 1 pound, and it sounds like you were surprised, so it wasn't what you were expecting. But please don't lose hope, as a gain could be down to many factors, and it could disappear overnight - so don't let it get you down.
Here's to an onward and downward trend in the long-term, and hopefully we'll see a loss on the scales next week, all being well.
Great to see you! Glad you've joined us today for the Monday group weigh-in. Wow, you've lost 5kg since you started on 28th January, that is fantastic! Really well done. I've enjoyed seeing your posts on the site, and enjoyed reading your bio - hope you'll enjoy being part of this great community and forum.
Sorry to hear you've got a cold though, and hope you feel better really soon. Be kind to yourself and don't overdo things. I know you want to sweat it out, but keep hydrated and look after yourself. Your health is important. Hopefully you'll feel better really soon.
This is beginning of week 3 and I'm down 2 lbs, so hooray! And that's just from diet change, this week I start exercising in earnest, so hopefully will be able to maintain loss and keep going. Just found out about school reunion in August, so have some real motivation now!
Congratulations on losing 2 pounds, that is really great! I know you're going to start exercising this week too, so I hope you enjoy that, and have another great week ahead.
Lovely that you have your School Reunion in August - that should be really motivating!
Have tempted fate and bought a dress for the reunion in a size 12, which is 2 sizes down from my current size. It's a lovely, sunny yellow - hope I get to wear it!!!
Wtg you! That dress is going to keep you on the straight and narrow, you can try it on monthly to see how close you're getting. Who knows, you may be thinking about having it taken in by August!
Well done for losing 1.5lbs kitkat and I'm sure your plan to go back to basics will be the end of that 3/4lb and put you back within the healthy weight range
Wow, that's a great result - Congratulations on losing 1.5 pounds this week. You're getting closer to the healthy BMI. Like you say, it'll get easier over the Summer as well, and it's Spring tomorrow, so we're getting closer! I love Spring actually, so I'm really looking forward to seeing the Spring flowers and enjoying the lighter evenings etc. Should be really good!
Maintainance is definitely a trickier thing, but you've got a plan of what works for you, and you're doing really well.
Last week I was 15,13 and today I am 15,12 so a loss of 1lb. Not great but pleased that it's a loss obviously. I really want to hit 15 stone by my birthday which is 6 weeks away so I have to get focused now. My two tasks for this week are to get back into drinking atleast 2 pints of water a day and to up my vegetable intake (to 3 a day, 5 would be too ambitious to start with).
Sorry you saw a gain this week Lowcal, with your determination though I'm sure you can turn that round quickly!
We're in a very similar place Garfield, it's my OH's birthday in 6 weeks time and we're going away, so I'd like to push for a stone too. We can keep each other motivated
I'm lucky with veggies, because I love them. I do find that if you have a salad, or a stir fry, you can whack in a lot of different veggies and they're really tasty, or if you don't like veggies, make a big pot of veggy soup and blend it. That way you can eat loads without being aware of it
Hi, I love your attitude towards a small gain Lowcal! I really need to learn to be more positive. Until 3 seconds ago when I read your post I was feeling so angry at my stationary weight. I was 89kgs last week and the same this week. It's not a gain so I should be happy but I feel a bit cheated!
I shouldn't feel cheated because even though i had a good week and my body is changing shape (people keep asking me if i lost weight) I couldn't exercise Thursday, Friday or Saturday. So only exercised 4 out 7 days. Also, I stayed within my calorie limit (1400) everyday apart from Saturday when I had a glass of prosecco and 2 g&ts that sent me over the limit.
Anyway: Positive, positive, positive! Sports bra is back on! Lets do this: onwards and downwards!
Lowcal is a marvellous motivator, isn't she Catmay? I'm so pleased that her words have fired you up with enthusiasm and that you're raring to go - sports bra and all!
Morning All! Sorry to her you have gained Lowcal. I have maintained but as I had a big gain other week not good. I still need to get focus and motivation back as I am starting to feel quite down and see some of my old habits creeping in. I have not quite worked out what is wrong. So motivation brother's getting married abroad in aprox 3 months. So I am just hoping for a better week (again).
I'm sorry to hear you're starting to feel quite down and that some of your old habits have been creeping in. Maybe you could give yourself a bit of time to just write down what has been working for you, and where the challenges lie - and then you can work out what you need to focus more on over this week. It can be difficult to work these things out sometimes, but it can be worth taking a moment to 'self-appraise' the situation. Afterall, we might spend time budgeting, or checking other things, and why not do your own self-appraisal and fine-tune things.
I will still say to you that a Maintain is far better than a gain, and although you experienced a gain last week, you've not let it side-line you to make further gains, which is good!
It's great that you've got your brother's Wedding as a motivator 3 months ahead. 3 months is lots of time to make the changes you want to make - so take the time you need to re-appraise your week ahead, pre-plan as much as you can, and hopefully you'll see some losses on the scales next week, all being well.
Loss of focus and motivation seems to be a recurring theme Vickster and I'm sorry to hear it's got a hold of you too.
You have a huge motivator in the shape of your brother's wedding in 3 months. How about window shopping for an outfit to see if that perks you up a bit?
Read through the posts here on the weigh-in and read some of the motivational posts in the newbie thread, maybe that will help relight the fire within you
All the best for this coming week
No change today. My word everything is slow on this today. Or am I just in a rush!
Morning! I have stayed at 12 st 1lb. Did so well all week as I was determined to get into the 11's by the end of February, so a bit disappointed! Onwards and upwards......
That always seems to happen suffolkwomble, or at least it happens to me. I so wanted to have lost 2st by the end of my 12 weeks, it wasn't to be, I lost 27lbs and the following day, lo and behold , that 1lb had gone! I bet your 1lb and a little bit will be gone by tomorrow or the next day too
What a shame about your weight gain but it's not much and I'm sure you'll soon be losing again.
This week I've lost 0.75lb so it's painfully slow going for me but overall now I've lost 8lb in 8 weeks and I'm quite happy with that, it's about half of the total I wanted to lose.
Thanks so much for your encouraging words, I do appreciate them.
Great that you've lost 0.75 pound this week, that is really good! You're lost 8 pounds in 8 weeks, which is a good steady weight loss, and definitely sustainable and in the onwards and downwards direction, so Congratulations! You're already half-way to your ultimate goal, you're doing really well.
Yippee, today I have lost 1kg. Feeling rewarded for my efforts of keeping my steps up and sticking to a calorie count of 1400 cals. I had a couple of treats along the way but stayed focused and wasn't silly.
Targets for this week......minimum distance per day 10kms
Target............................... Keep an eye on the calorie count.
I have an evening at a cook school coming up on Friday. This was a Christmas pressie and I'm looking forward to it. I'll be keeping a tight check on the cals to allow for this night of indulgence.
How exciting that you're having your Cook School session later this week, that sounds really good! What a lovely and thoughtful Christmas pressie. You're already pre-planning to allow yourself that night of indulgence, so good strategy on your part!
Fantastic to hear you've lost 1.4 kgs this week, many Congratulations!
You've set yourself some great targets for this week, and wishing you success with both.
Onwards and downwards - I hope you have a fabulous week ahead.
Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week, that is great! Just double checking, but are you 12 stone 6 pounds now or 11 stone 6 pounds, as you've written 12 in your first mention of the weight and 11 in the second.
Hope you have a great couple of weeks away, and look forward to catching up with you when you get back.
Hi people, it's my first weigh in after trying to get on the weight loss bandwagon. I've lost 2lbs! Really pleased that I've had a loss, as didn't do so well with the diet part this week. I did manage to keep up with the Couch to 5K though, so really pleased. If I keep this up I could be a stone lighter by the time I go to Seville in April! Whoop whoop!
What a great result, Congratulations on losing 2 pounds since getting back on the weight loss bandwagon. That is really great!
You mentioned that you didn't do so well with the diet part - so hope you have better success with that next week. Great that you have kept up with the Couch to 5k, that is great exercise.
Here's to you being a stone lighter for your holiday to Seville in April, - what a lovely motivator.
Hi moreless, thanks for your comment, let's go for it! Is your loss for a holiday too? I think that a loss is a good start, and makes me want to go to the gym a lot more! Fingers crossed this keeps up!
The Afternoon/Evening session isn't necessarily related to the time of weighing - it's more about the fact that we needed to cut the thread size - as the technological side of the site were struggling with the larger sized threads. Hence the afternoon/evening thread is used from midday onwards (or thereabouts) and it doesn't matter what time of day you actually weighed - many people will pop back later from work and report on weigh-ins that most likely occurred in the morning. Does that make sense?
Anyway, we still check the Morning thread to make sure we don't miss anyone, and hence I am resonding to your post - reallly great to see you, and it's great to hear that you are maintaining the weight loss you've achieved since the beginning of the year. You've put on 0.3kg today, and I agree with you that many of us are having some fluctuations of weight currently - but we can support each other through this, and here's to hopefully achieiving a loss on the scales next week, or maybe a good body measurement or clothes fitting experience!
The reason that Lowcal posts 2 threads, is to alleviate the congestion and hopefully bypass some of the technical problems caused by a popular thread. You're welcome to post in either, but it can be easier to post and answer a post on a thread that's less busy
There must be something in the air that's causing us all to have fluctuating results on the scales small-steps
I'm glad that you're happy with your miniscule gain and I'll keep my fingers crossed that the scales fluctuate in the opposite direction for you next monday
Last week I was 14 stone 10.9 (I didn't get round to posting last week) - but for that week I stayed the same
This week I am 14 stone 9 which means 1.9lbs off, but I am pretty convinced this is water weight - so will see what the scales say next Monday.
I have been trying to follow my own advice this week - for some reason I am always acting like a weight loss guru.
I have a friend at work who is struggling with her weight and because she is quite heavy, she is now having pains in her feet & knees.
Her solution was to consider getting a balloon in her belly - but along came me and my ample supply of knowledge, even recommending a meal plan - but I don't think anyone can take advice about diets from a fat person.
So I have been trying to reduce my carbs a bit this week, it's been going well I think and I will try to maintain it this week
I'm sending one of my meal pics for your admiration
Well done for losing 1.9lbs, that's terrific It sounds as if you're becoming quite the weight loss expert now. More fool your friend if she doesn't take your advice. The thought of getting a balloon in my belly fills me with horror!
Good luck with reducing your carbs, it'll be interesting to see how you get on
Hi Lowcal I know this is not the result you wanted to see today and I know how you feel when you say you are disappointed and that you were hoping to lose 2 lbs this week. It's strange how the human body works especially when you know you have put in the work and watch what you eat to achieve those goals you set for yourself and then it just doesn't happen. It can bring the mood down a little leading to that disappointed feeling, but if you look on the bright side of this you have been working all week to achieve your goal of reaching those 12's, working out and looking after your body ensuring you are healthy and fitter in the here and now also counts for something Take a good look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself how well You have done and just see what you have achieved. I find this very rewarding and it really works and helps me with my focus. This journey is more than just a number on the scale, it's about that positive step you took to become the wonderful and beautiful woman you are today. 1 lb can't take that away from you and you are already at your healthy BMI weight and that's also worth remembering and even worth another mention just so any new comers understand that this is a personal goal You are trying to reach
Lowcal You are a big inspiration to me and many others
Can I just add a massive thank you to you and the rest of the fab 5 for all you do, do on here and to anyone reading this never lose sight of your dreams and stay focused on your goals as each and everyone of us are more than capable of achieving them Positive thinking will make your mind just as healthy as your body and well done to everyone who contributed to last Monday's weigh-in. The results are amazing
I am just cooking my dinner, but I will look forward to popping back later this evening to read through your lovely post - as I always enjoy reading your posts and really appreciate your constant support. So thanks for your post, and I'll be back to read it later. Hope you have a great evening.
I hope you enjoy your walk. I've had my dinner - lovely salmon steak with 4 prawns and some baked new potato chips and mixed vegetables (courgettes, carrots, and red onions) - really yummy. Oh, and my 1 piece of Lindt Pistachio chocolate with a cup of coffee afterwards - really good! I'm wondering what lovely fish you're having today - I would be amazed if you're not having fish, as I know you do love it - trout being your favourite of course!
Thanks for your lovely comments, and I especially liked it when you said that the 'Journey is more than just a number on the scale" - you are very right, it is so much more than that. How we feel about ourselves, being fitter and healthier and making sure we try to give ourselves healthy sustaining nutrients and take adequate exercise.
I hope you enjoyed your evening of drinks with your lovely husband on the weekend - as I know you were treating yourselves a bit - and I hope your week is going well so far. I hope you had a lovely walk and that you relax and unwind this evening.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and I'll look forward to reading your Saturday update post. Good luck with your goals for this week. I'll do my best to try to get into the 12's for next week, and I wish you success with getting to the 10 stone 10 mark. I bet you're already getting close!
Hi Lowcal I got back from my walk and lone behold no internet. We all use the internet and felt a bit lost without it so I had an early night LOL
You meal sounds lovely for yesterday and you guest right I did have fish, baked trout in fact with kale broc...and a half cup of bulgar with some baked peppers and mushrooms. It was really nice I'm having the same today as I made enough so I don't have to cook today
We had a nice walk yesterday evening which we go on every evening sometimes we extend the walk and sometimes depending on the weather we shorten it, but we always enjoy walking
We didn't end up going out on Sat for a meal and drinks so the record remains in tacked we decided we were too tired so stayed in and relaxed and I was in bed by about 9 pm. Next Sat all us mum's mine and my sisters are all going out for a carvery to celebrate Mother's day together which will be nice and I am looking forward to that.
T1, I only have to read one of your motivational posts and I instantly feel like I could take on the world and win! You are amazing! You make me feel like Superwoman!
Moreless you are a superwoman and already taking on the world and most of all you are proving to yourself that you are a winner Who run the world ? GIRLS !
Hi. I am rejoining after going solo for a while, doing OK then putting all my lost weight back on. Have had lots of wonderful support, so here I am. 10 stone 11, hoping to get out of the 10 stone band as a long term goal, but more immediately to get to 10 stone 7. For me though, it is as much about getting healthy and breaking bad eating and drinking habits and maintaining a balanced frame of mind.
Thank you for all of those of you who have been so kind with your thoughts and comments and good luck for everyone this week.
Many thanks for your lovely supportive post - I always appreciate your messages.
I've just re-adjusted my goal in Sueper's Easter Bunny Challenge - it was great to have her reminder about the goal and the fact there are only 4 weeks left to Easter Sunday, so I've found that process really helpful.
You're right, there's always a learning curve, and the main thing is that I'm enjoying my meals and my exercise, and I feel good, that is really great!
Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in, and thanks for sharing your starting weight. I would recommend taking a look at the Welcome Newbie post, and also following the NHS 12 week plan as a good framework - especially alongside an app to help you keep account of your food and drink intake, plus exercise. Have a look at the Pinned posts (right-hand-side of the homepage) for the Welcome Newbie thread, and you'll see a link to the 12 week plan either in that thread, or via the icon at the top middle of the screen entitled 'Weight Loss NHS'.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and good luck with your weight loss goals. It might also help to take your body measurements, as it can really be motivating to see changes in those alongside the weekly weigh-in, especially on those weeks when the scales don't do what we hope they'll do.
You're not messing up the stats. Ruth doesn't usually do the stats till later in the week, so your results will be included. Great to see you! Welcome! I'm really pleased that you've decided to join us. Have you seen the 'Welcome Newbie' post? It's worth a read if you've not yet seen it - it was collated by Moreless (a lovely member of the forum) and it is in the Pinned Posts area (right-hand-side of forum homepage). Most of us are following the NHS 12 week plan as an excellent framework, so I would also recommend that - alongside an app like Myfitnesspal (which is what some people us) to keep account of food and drink intake and exercise). Very useful.
Anyway, whatever you are doing, I wish you success, and it's great that you've shared your starting weight with us today. I hope that felt ok to do so. Hopefully you'll be seeing the 11's really soon! You've set yourself the short-term goal to get there within 2 weeks, and that sounds achievable. Wishing you success with your weight-loss journey, and looking forward to catching up with you again in the Monday group weigh-in sessions, and also around and about on the forum.
Have a great week.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal, Fabulous Five!
My Stat yesterday morning 29th FEB. was 83,6kg and I gained again, ooops
Lent? No, Jellybabys and chocolate spread.... missing a Gent from UK very much, so chocolate and jelly babys,.... dreaming of him doesn't resume in eating less sweets! OOOOPs! ;-(
Oh dear Flower-arranger, I'm so sorry that your gentleman friend isn't around to console you and that you've turned to the jelly babies and chocolate spread for comfort. I also know that you tried to edit your post to read 93.6kgs and that you have gained weight, although, I don't know how much you've gained. Hopefully Ruth will be able to sort that out
I remember that we chatted a couple of weeks ago and we decided that you would comfort and pamper yourself with things that weren't fattening, like lovely walks, or bubble baths, or window shopping. Did you forget?
Throw away the chocolate and jelly babies, if there are any left, have a luxurious bubble bath, put on your prettiest dress and go out somewhere nice with a friend
All the best for this week, let's see if you'll have a loss on the scales next monday
I've just replied to your message in the Afternoon session thread to say that I have checked your weight on 22nd February, and it was 93.8kgs then, so the fact you are now 93.6kgs means you've actually lost 0.2kgs this week.
So - Note for Ruth - you don't need to check back, as I've already done that to make it easier for you.
Hello everyone, hope I am not too late to type in my starting weight of 12st 11lbs Started today and hoping to be able to reach my target of 9 stone within a year
You're not too late, Ruth hasn't started the stats yet
I'm really pleased that you've decided to join us for the weigh-in and that you've shared your starting weight and your final goal
Have you had a chance to have a look at our newbie thread? You'll find it in the pinned posts section to the right of your screen and it's full of handy info to get you started. You'll find links the the NHS 12 week plan and our Around the World challenge too.
I hope you'll be very happy with us and that you'll be active on the forum.
Wishing you all the best for your first week and beyond
Hi everyone! I'm new, and totally demoralised. I'm 62, 5 ft nothing and obese, with a BMI of 34 which is appalling. Been on the 5/2 diet for ages but it doesn't work for me: I can't stick rigidly to it and even when I do, and I lose weight one day, it is back on over the next few days
I have been exercising regularly since July last year, at the gym, twice a week. I go on the cross trainer or exercise bike first for about 30-40 mins, and in the last month or so have tried to push myself to do 5km on the cross trainer or 10 km on the bike and am utterly shattered afterwards! I follow this with strength training on the various machines.
You'd expect, wouldn't you, that I'd lost SOME weight doing regular exercise, after doing none previously? (I hate exercise!) But the opposite has happened: weight is going on! I don't know what to do. I feel disgusting, I look disgusting.
I am pleased that I am keeping up with the gym sessions (I go very early in the morning before I lose the impetus) and I know it's helping my heart, fitness, stamina, and cholesterol. But how to I tackle my weight????
I've got a history of anxiety and depression and am on meds for both - feeling loads better these days and really want to lose weight. I have a granddaughter and another grandchild due in June and I want to live a long time to see them grow up.
Should I stop the 5/2? My husband does it too and has lost loads- it works for him and we do it together but his willpower is far greater than mine.
Firstly, I would like to welcome you - and thanks for joining us in the Monday group session. You've given a really helpful introduction to yourself and to your experiences with attempting the 5:2 diet. Certainly, I know it does help some people - and it appears to be helping your husband, which is great.
However, you seem dissatisfied with it, and so I guess it might be worth looking at alternatives, if you feel you'd like to try something different. You could of course stick with it, but the fact you've been putting on weight and that's been over a course of time suggests it isn't working for you. I did try it myself for a while, but found it hard to cope on the days when it was restricted calories. I found I didn't get on with it very well.
Many of us are following the guidelines of the NHS 12 week plan, and I'd like to give you the direct link to the 12 week downloadable pages:
Maybe take a look and see what you think. I would also recommend using an app alongside it - e.g. Myfitnesspal, to help you to keep account of your food and drink intake and exercise.
By the way, your exercise regime sounds really great, and you're making great strides (literally!) in doing your 5km on the cross trainer and 10km on the bike. Really great! Do look out for the Around the World in 80 Days Challenge that FizzyLiz is doing, as that might be something that you'd enjoy being part of. There are only about 15 days of that Challenge remaining, but FizzyLiz and Moreless are planning something else to take its place afterwards, so we'll be looking out for that. I think they're going to post details of that tomorrow.
Also, Moreless (a lovely member of the forum) has compiled a 'Welcome Newbie' post, which you might want to have a read though, as it contains lots of suggestions and things that people in the forum have found helpful:
Although exercise is great for stamina, fitness, health, and so many factors, it doesn't necessarily mean you can rely on it to lose weight - but I have to say that I do find I benefit from exercise in relation to losing weight more when I keep it up. But essentially getting the healthy eating plan right is a key part, and so I think you're right to focus on that. But I would definitely suggest keeping up your exercise, as it has such fantastic benefits to health and well-being. I love the fact you're combining strength exercises too - again, look out for Ruth_Canal_Runner's March Strength Challenge - it is really good to be part of if you're enjoying doing Strength exercises.
I've given you a very long reply, so hope that was ok. I know you're feeling a bit despondent, so please do make the most of our forum to gain support and encouragement, as it can really help.
I was obese at the start of my own weight loss journey - I weighed 18 stone 8 pounds at the start, and I felt awful, but I am pleased to say I am now just over 13 stones currently, and my BMI is in the healthy range. It can be done, and you can get there. Hopefully being part of the forum will help you achieve your goals, and I wish you the best on your weight loss journey.
Maybe take your body measurements too, as it can be really motivating to note those changes over time as well.
I am joining in better late than never I suppose! with a good weigh in behind me as well. I managed to lose 2lb on Mondays weigh! Bringing me down into the 12's at 12st 13.4lbs!
How exciting to be down in the next stone bracket. Hopefully it will remain that way for this Mondays weigh in. I knew I had 2 meals out planned this weekend. But I chose healthy options for both so fingers crossed. Although, knowing my luck, it will more than likely be a gain!
I intend to do some exercise tomorrow to try and minimize the after meal effect for this weekend. I would very much love to stay in the 12's! and hopefully you will join me there for next weeks weigh in Lowcal! Sorry to hear about the gain, but I hope you've had a good week!
Great to see you! Definitely better late than never, and I am so pleased to hear you've lost 2 pounds at Monday's weigh-in, that is fantastic!!! Congratulations. Ruth has already done our stats, but I will ensure that your result is included, so it's fine! Well done for choosing some healthy options for your 2 meals out this week. Like you say, fingers crossed.
I know you wrote your message yesterday and that today (Sunday) you are intending to do some exercise to try and minimize the after meal effect for this weekend. So good luck with staying in the 12's, and I hope I will join you there at tomorrow's Monday weigh-in.
9 stone 8.2 lbs today, which is OK, have gone down a bit less than a pound, but I did eat half the shell of an Easter Egg yesterday (naughty me) for my pudding. And that was a massive 270 calories in one major gobble! Good luck to everyone in the group - I had forgotten how 'food intense' Easter weekend can be!
