Healthy eating, I recommend Slimming World, it's worth putting aside the £4.95 per week as they're eating plans are excellent, you have support from others, learn and get great tips, ideas and guidines.

I've been reading a lot about juicing diets, not sure if these would work long term, but would like to try as you would get all the right about of vitamins. I've been reading a lot about the vitamix blenders, they seem impressive but expensive. I quite like some of the soups you can do in a blender. Has anyone else tried a juicing diet?

Soups are great for filling you up, cheap to make and very nutritious. We make a lot, in a saucepan. Juicing breaks down the fibre in fruit and veg, which is a vital part of keeping healthy. This is ok for veg, but taking the fibre away from fruit leaves you drinking sugar (fructose). Too much of this can lead to liver damage and is now one of the major cause of diabetes.

I'd definitely recommend the 5:2 Diet where you eat 500 calories two days a week. Apart from the outlay on buying the book (tinyurl.com/ooq77t3) only £1.99 on Kindle, you actually save money as you're not signing up for expensive slimming clubs, so you save towards your new slimmer clothes! Another advantage is that once you've lost the weight - I've lost three stone - you maintain by just fasting one day a week. There are plenty of Facebook support groups such as '5:2 for Life and Health' so you won't do it unsupported.

In a nutshell eat less and do more :)

Yep, eat less, move more... and I reckon that the getting more/enough sleep research may bed in (hahahaha) as important too.

Anything else is likely to be just a hobby (and possibly a temporary and expensive one), although some people feel reassured and motivated by a framework. It is unfortunate that this forum is not more obviously signposting the NHS programme.

Sounds easy on the surface, so if it isn't proving easy, it is worth some reflection and exploration of what the barriers are for you, as they are not the same for everyone.

Hi,Ive done every diet going and lost weight and put all back on.But for the last 4wks all ive done is stick to 1400cals a day of healthish food.I work long hours so have my main meal at work,so burn it off...and ive lost weight and dont feel hungry which i normally would.Im a bread lover so make sure i have no more than 2 slices or none and have porridge for breakfast which is weighed out.I do have fruit mid morning.Try it and see.All the best.

In the past I've tried weight watchers and slimming world. Everything works as long as you stick to it. This time around I've lost weight calorie counting using Nutracheck and exercising a lot more. I eat the things I like but in moderation. Good luck!

You might need to experiment a little to find what works for you. The NHS site is a good place to start. I find that I need to keep my carbs fairly low and avoid sugar as much as possible. I'm not eating less, but I am eating differently, no processed food or low fat.

Getting rid of my sugar cravings was the most useful thing for me.

Concentrate on Healthy Eating and control your weight by the quantity of that food you consume, move more but most importantly remember the changes that you make need to be for life.
