Lose weight
Yes I'd like some advise too. I am too busy to count calories, I have three children to look after and I just don't get time. Secondly I always fail. I've tried everything. Weight watchers and calorie counting. If I don't lose I get terribly upset and eat rubbish, feel depressed and get very angry and depressed about it, so I end up giving up.
If anyone had any suggestions- I have at least 4 stone to lose. It would feel nice to lose one by xmas and the rest by August for my 40th.
Yeah am the same I have 2 kids my self just trying to lose weight my self as well yeah am the sme just give up but need to keep trying and do more I go for walks now and again need to start doing more
An obvious answer but a true one is eat less and exercise more. If you don't have the time or the inclination to count calories just reduce your portion sizes. Fill up on vegetables and to a lesser extent fruit
Im just starting out myself, but i know alot of people on here have had success with the NHS 12 week plan. There is a link on the right hand side of the home page for this forum. ☺
Gonna give this a go and c how it goes hopefully it works do they just send u emails and tell u what to do
You download a file, which you then print out. It has advice to follow each week, and charts to fill out. ☺ you may also want to use a calorie counting app such as myfitnesspal (free) or nutracheck (£2 a week)
☺
After years of trying to lose weight I finally did it on the 5:2 diet, not for everyone but it worked for me.
I have found myfitnesspal app or website very helpful but you must only aim to lose 1pound a week, faster weight loss is unsustainable. It is calorie counting so it allows you loads of choice and it recommended I eat 2300 calories to lose 1 pound a week. It seems a lot but I have lost plenty of weight doing it. Also I have found practicing mindfulness helpful to reduce cravings and cortisol.
At one time I did very well in overeaters anonymous and would recommend that organisation to anyone with a food related issue. I lost 15 stone with them and kept it off for about 12 years. Unfortunatly due to a thyroid issue I eventually gained lots of weight back. I no longer go to overeater anon as I am unable to cope with the spiritual side of the programme. It is not religious and is compatable with all religions or none but does suggest spiritual practice such as prayer, meditiation and trust in a God of your choice. It just wasnt for me anymore but great for a lot of people. I would avoid the usual weightwatchers and slimming world they work well for a while but are a temporary fix. Myfitnesspal is free online and overeaters anonymous ask for a donation of what you can afford per meeting and are non profit making. I am sure you will find what you need.
I use MFP too but I do find that the number of calories they recommend for me to lose weight is too high even to lose 1lb a week. So I have constructed my own diet. I too am a very business person with a company to run as well as a household to manage and getting down the gym, but I do make time to count calories (it takes very little time with MFP). I've tried all the non-calorie counting diets (yes all of them) and I always come back to calorie counting. It is scientific - if you eat less calories than you expend you will lose weight. End of.
The best way to loose weight is to stop eating. I need to loose 2 stone but up to now I can't manage. I love good food and wine and I like to cook and bake so I am a lost cause really. Add to this my mobility problems and pain and age 77 years I am really up against it.
To date I have had zero success.
Can you try low carb? You can eat lots of meat, fish, butter, veg, creamy sauces, eggs...even dark chocolate in moderation, so it can be quite gourmet. You can even do low carb baking although the recipes are unusual! You can make choc mousse with melted dark choc, butter and raw egg yolk omg it's amazing. Can't have it everyday but it's still allowed.
🙂
Any chance of the chocolate mousse recipe being shared if you have it to hand - sounds gorgeous and the sort of thing we could have without mucking up our healthy eating too much. Could be a lovely dessert for Christmas, don't like Christmas pudding very much.
Heya, i cant find the recipe my mum used but heres a similar one from the Guardian. It uses whipped egg whites aswell but i imagine you coukd just use egg yolk and bit sugar to make a denser mousse -
Perfect chocolate mousse
Makes 2
2 medium eggs
60g chocolate (at least 70% cocoa)
2 tsp sugar (or to taste)
1. Break the chocolate into pieces and put in a bowl over, but not touching, a pan of simmering water. When the chocolate begins to melt, turn the heat off. Separate the eggs.
2. Whisk the egg whites into soft peaks, add the sugar, and whisk briefly.
3. Mix the egg yolks quickly into the melted chocolate and then whisk in a third of the egg white. Fold the rest very gently into the mixture until just combined (be careful not to overmix), and then put into bowls and refrigerate for at least four hours until set.
To stop eating is not the way. To eat moderate amounts of the right foods is the way
I agree completely! I can't reference them right now as it was months ago (I've been awol a lot so I know it's months and months ago), but I'm sure I've read folks on here actually found they needed to slightly UP their calorie intake because their bodies went into starvation mode, or words to that effect. Can anyone who found that applied to them comment please, or anyone who remembers reading similar from folks on here? Not eating at all is dangerous, so I'm taking it that it was only said in a kind of joking manner. x
Absolutely right WW! Here's the thread to support that theory

Thank you moreless, I was pretty sure I didn't dream it but the thought of trying to find it because of my vague memory of it was quite overwhelming! Moreless to the rescue!
I started the diet and exercise. this is my sixth week, it was very hard at first, but getting easier, I have list 16ibs. I.m 73 years old I have a heart problem, and other health issues. But if I can loose weight and get fitter you can, don't put food in your mouth IE calories, more than you burn, walk for a good fast walk for on hour a day. Best of luck
