Why don't you want to use My Fitness Pal? I find it very easy to use and I can access it from my phone, computer and tablet.

Would you prefer to count portions? Look up the British Heart Foundation plan 😊

If you don't want to use myfitnesspal then why not just use a notebook that you can write everything down. My wife does this. I like to keep track of my salt, sugar, fat and fibre so I like to use the app. I also have my fitbit linked to it and have it on pc at work, on my phone and on my ipad so it's never far away. Whatever you decide it has to be something that you are happy to do and know that you will stick to doing. Good luck.

I use a wee book called Pocket Calorie Counter by Carolyn Humphries and use a spreadsheet but you could just write it in a notebook.

I always use NHS calorie counter. I weigh my food and work out the calories by looking up each food listed on there. I've lost 21 lbs so far. Good luck

I have a list of the foods I eat regularly with the calories per portion written next to it. If I eat a new food then I work it out using an online calorie counter and add it to the list. Then it's easy just to see how many calories in each meal or snack. I also just use a little notebook. Good luck Alli.

Well I use myfitnesspal with great success but we are all different. I know there are other similar apps if its the app you don't like.

Otherwise how about a good old pen and notebook? :)

Thanks all of you ,

You all are so kind and friendly. Always there for help.

so I will try to write in diary and NHS calorie counter. Going to use from now.

most foods have the calorie value printed on them now, so I use a notepad and pen. You do get to know the value of items eaten regularly, and items without the value on I just google. At the back of my notepad I Jo down the value of anything new I try. I also make notes on how I am feeling so that if I go over my allowance on a day, I can pinpoint why. I am sure with all the comments here that you will find the right one for you. Good luck

Which book any name please?

A - Z of calories

calories do count

I have just realised it is 8 years old

I just use an old-fashioned calorie counter book I've had a few years for basics and unlabelled foods, and then I refer to the manufacturers nutritional information on branded products to work out what a portion of a branded food contains. Jot it all down in a notepad and then add up to get a grand total for the day.

I've set myself target calorie contents for each meal - 250 for breakfast, 350 for lunch and 450 for dinner - and I try to stay around that level to try and make all the weighing and measuring slightly less onerous and boring.

Hope that helps.
