Looking for some advice for hair removal

I was diagnosed with PCOS around 12 years ago. I've been on the pill to help with periods and facial hair but in the last 6 months or so the facial hair is getting worse and worse. It's getting to the point where I have to do hair removal twice a day. I can't afford laser removal so was wondering if anyone has any tips?

I've read that supplements such as inositol can help?

Hi I have been living with PCOS for nearly 50 years and have tried various methods. As you know the hair issue is hormonal, so even laser hair removal is not permanent. If you can afford to have top ups it is an expensive way to manage the issue, or purchase a home device. Due to CKD I have never tried spironolactone, as it is not recommended for people with reduced kidney function. I have recently gone back to using Metformin 1000mg (3 months) and also (3 weeks) supplementing this with the formula of 40:1 Myo Inositol and D-chiro-inositol 2mg. I am postmenopausal, so have not used this to bring on a period, it is purely to see if I can get relief from the other symptoms. My observations have been an improvement of skin as I have suffered from Keratosis Pilaris, which now seems to relate to insulin resistance, the hair growth has slowed but not disappeared. I also think on the whole it has had a positive affect on my mood as well. I am according to BMI currently just in the obese category, but I have not as yet seen any weight loss.

I see an endocrinologist annually and after my last visit in March persuaded me to give Metformin another try. I had recently had annual blood tests for CKD and this time my cholesterol was elevated enough to be a concern. After doing my own investigations I made a decision to supplement this with Inositol. I have had no adverse reaction to it, but this is my own personal experience so far, and obviously I am not in a position to say this is something someone else should do. Everyone needs to do their own investigation, and make the decision for themselves.

I hope this helps.

I have a waxing kit and home wax. I do find it can affect the skin in my top lip because I have to do it fairly regularly but it definitely is less than twice daily. Avoid shaving if you can!

Threading is also a good option, lasts the same amount of time as waxing but is kinder to the skin, just needs a good threader to do it!

I'm sorry to hear that you can't afford laser hair removal. It would solve a lot of problems. The method is harmless since the laser acts only on melanin and the root but does not damage the surrounding tissues. During the manipulation, the specialist treats the skin with constant movements while the device gradually heats the follicles and destroys them. I think that facial hair removal will not cost too much and you should contact beaulaser.co.uk to at least find out about the cost of this procedure for you and the possibility of a discount.
