Has anyone used Inositol? I have never heard of it before and it came up in an advert I saw so I’m wondering if it is worthwhile? Thanks!
Inositol: Has anyone used Inositol? I have... - PCOS UK (Verity)
Inositol
Hi I'm using this now. I was prescribed Metformin but even the slow release form really upsets my stomach and I was getting to the point where I couldn't cope with it. When I first went on Metformin I lost just over 2 stone very easily then the weight loss stopped and I've maintained which although I still have lots of weight to lose I'm pleased with because usually my weight piles straight back on with more added on top! I've not really had any weight loss since changing to inositol but I'm still maintaining and I don't notice as many sugar high/low swings on it. The weight loss is my own fault though I just have no will power and hate cooking and that coupled with the fatigue and constant sugar cravings of PCOS makes for a diet disaster! Xx
Hi I took this, diagnosed PCOS a year ago, found out about inositol and read lots of positives - hadn’t got as far as being offered Metformin, but lost 5% body weight (BMI ok), had tubal patency test, and took 2 months of inositol. Had an impromptu period- first in over a year and am now 12 weeks pregnant. Don’t know what worked - but I feel like it did for me! Xx
Thank you! That sounds positive. Where was the best place to buy it in the UK? I want to make sure I get genuine as I’ve heard there is lot of fakes packs sold on the internet!
I've heard positive things about it so would be worth giving it a try in my opinion
It lowers insulin resistance. You'll want the d-chiro-inositol for the effect and I've heard you can get the packets through the NHS.
A gynaecologist recommended Inofolic to me which I looked up and found out is 4g myo-inositol and 400mcg of folic acid split into 2 sachets so I bought them separately which has been loads cheaper.
I've been using it for 7 months and have found it to work so well. I lost about 2 stone quite quickly and then the loss slowed but is still coming off just not as quickly which I think is normal. Now I feel like I have to do the same amount of exercise/sensible eating as an average person rather than nothing working.
I have also had regular periods although the last couple of months have been a bit less regular but that could be from a lot of stress I am going through or because I am still overweight. I am taking folic acid which you can get anywhere, and myo-inositol which I get in a tub from Nature's Best. It's a lot cheaper than Inofolic because it's not branded but it seems to work. I also tried taking d-chiro-inositol (which is not in Inofolic) and found it did not more to help and it is more expensive so I'm not going to bother with it.
I went to my GP and said the gynaecologist (who I'd seen through referral from the GP) had recommended it but not given a prescription and the GP said she could prescribe the folic acid and would find out if she can prescribe the myo-inositol, I'm not sure what the outcome will be. It's ridiculous because it has helped with 2 massive areas of my life that I've been to the GP about numerous times throughout my life and never before found a satisfactory solution and will reduce my risk of various other things later down the line!
Hope that helps! Definitely recommend it!
my Understanding is that it can’t be prescribed xx
