1st covid vaccine booked

Hi I am currently taking mycophenolate and prednisolone I was diagnosed in November. I am booked in for my 1st covid vaccine on Monday 1st February. Has anyone had the vaccine that are taking immune suppressions? If so did you experience any side affects? I'm not feeling confident that with someone with a compromised immunity the vaccine will give much protection. My consultant says it will, but he also said the jury is still out so very mixed message which has left me slightly nervous. What do people think?

The vaccines are safe, regardless of the state of your immune system. So having the jab shouldn't cause you any problems because of your suppressed immune system. There is just some uncertainty on the level of immune response we will get from the vaccine.

The flu vaccine helps - and with Covid your immune system needs all the practice it can get in a controlled and safe way.

I had my first Pfizer Covid vaccine in December and three weeks later the second dose in January. I had no side effects except my arm was a little sore on the second dose and I was advised that this would be the case. At that time I was on Mycophenolate 2.5mg per day and had just stopped the Prednisolone a week earlier so it was perfectly safe to have. I have been told that my immune system would develop full protection 7-10 days after the second dose and it is now 18 days later. As Chris says, we don't yet know how much protection we will get but we will get some sufficient for protection against the virus so by all means get it as soon as you can.

Hi Readyteddy, I take 10mg Prednisolone and have done for many years for PMR/GCA.

Last night I had my first shot of the Pfizer vaccine, as I do not tolerate medication well, I was a little anxious however, apart from a sore arm, I don’t have any other side effects todate.

I know there is a lack of research to prove efficacy at present with people with compromised immune systems, however, I work on the premise that something is better than nothing. I also consider myself most fortunate to be offered this vaccine, as there are many people around the world who aren’t so lucky. I hope this helps. Stay safe, stay strong x

Just 1 day out.

I’m on both Pred (4mg) and Mycophenolate (1000mg twice) and have had the AZ vaccine, No problems on the day, at night I had a few shivers and cold toes, they may not be related, but the next I was very tired and slept all morning then add a splitting headache. There after back to my normal.

Totally agree with Chris, would rather have vaccine than not.

Hi I am on same drugs. Had Pfizer. Mild headache and feeling like I had been punched in arm. Taking the view that even 5% protection is better than none
