Help understanding my brothers blood test results.

My brother has schizophrenia and had blood test done at the hospital where he has a depo injection done for his mental health. I had to go through access to heakth records as they wouldn't give him a copy of his test. Said everything OK that's all. But there's the few odd tests that seem a bit out of range to me. My apology if I've posted in the wrong place.

Tsh 1.02 mu/L ( 0.55-4.78)

Ft4 16.1 pmol. ( 11.5-22.7)

Prolactin 89 mu/L. 45-375

Lymphocyte count 1.2. x10^9/L. ( . 1.0-4.5)

Basophil count 0.0 x10^9/L. (0.0-0.4)

Hospital didn't check anything like vitamin d. Iron. Ferritin . B12 etc.

could you get him to agree to do full thyroid including thyroid antibodies and vitamin levels?

Ask his GP to test vitamin levels and….if possible thyroid antibodies too

Thank you for your response SlowDragon I'll try and get him to agree to do thyroid panel. Like mine you mean tsh. Free t4 and t3 ? Thyroid peroxide antibodys ? And vitamins especially b12. Vitamin d.. full iron panel. Ferritin. Folate. ?

Do you think his tsh is out of range compared to the t4 ?

Hrs had schizophrenia for years I can't believe the hospital haven't done a proper full thyroid test on him and not checked for vitamin levels. My brother is very reluctant when it comes to getting his blood taken so ill be very persuasive for him to get this done and attend the appointments with him if he agrees

Thank you

Low vitamin levels very common issue

Unfortunately medical professional often fail to recognise this

Hi not sure if you got all of my message? Not sure if you could comment on his range of tsh and free t4? I asked my brother but he is refusing. I'll just have to keep trying

just testing TSH and Ft4 doesn’t tell you anything much

Free T4 (fT4) 16.1 pmol/L (11.5 - 22.7)

Ft4 41.1% through range

So normal, but perhaps slightly on low side

Need to test full thyroid including antibodies and vitamin levels

Those all look to be in range to me? Is he on thyroxine already or are you thinking he may be as yet undiagnosed?

I'm not sure if all in range. It looks on range to you tho ? No he's not on any meds for thyroid. I wasn't sure if if his test resukt was out of range

Basophils are a type of white blood cell that appear in association with allergy problems and inflammation. Having a level of 0 is within the range (i.e. it is bottom of the range) and this is normal, and not a problem. I've had a level of 0 for basophils and it isn't a sign of a problem.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basophil

A lymphocyte is another form of white blood cell, and is relevant to the immune system.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymph...

A level of 1.2 is quite low in range and is not (as far as I can tell) a problem.

General info on white blood cells and the different types found in testing can be found here :

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White...

Testing levels of the various white blood cells is a standard part of the Full Blood Count.
